Got to agree, it definitely transcends genres. It's a pretty disturbing film to watch thanks to the special effects, but what really gets under my skin watching it now is the relationship dynamic and the human performances. I wish Hollywood would go back to making more of these thoughtful, lower-budget genre films aimed at adults.

Most of Cronenberg's early work is pure gold. Scanners and Videodrome are two films I can watch endlessly and never really get bored of.

I also had no idea he almost made a proper sequel to this. I guess it's time to read up on that and be sad...

I'd give an arm to at least see the script... IIRC FOX wanted to go a cheaper route since Cronenberg wanted really high end effects. Amazing to think studios would pass on an obvious hit and would rather put out **** on the cheap.

I'm sure Chris Walas would return too to do the effects.

I love Scanners and Videodrome too, more of Shore's excellent music in there. Videodrome predicted the Internet.

The 80's was a good decade for near-perfect movies - The Thing, Robocop, Terminator, and The Fly are a few that come to mind.

Yes sir! So much goodness during that time. Just off the top of my head I'll throw in Predator, Die Hard, First Blood, The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Back to the Future. :rock

Yeah no kidding. I love those all very dearly, I hold The Fly above all of them. Although I can't watch it as much as the other three since it's too depressing.

Damn right to all of this. I'm glad I was able to see most of these movies in the theater or video rental as a kid.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 8/10

Second viewing, still really liked it, and the subtitles weren't working so I had to go on memory for what the apes were saying to eachother most of the time.

What's going on with the films anyway? Are they making another one yet?

Flight - 8/10 The character annoyed me. All that happens and he's still drinking. Good for him in the end, he deserved it for acting like a ******.

Yeah, they're filming the next one now (can't remember the title off the top of my head...EDIT: Just Googled it..."War For the Planet of the Apes").

I enjoyed this one. I thought Denzel did a good job in selling the problems/conflict within the character.

American Ninja ---- 10/10
American Ninja 2 - 10/10

Fierce People. 2005. Starring Donald Sutherland.

Strange movie. I only watched because it was something I'd
never seen before. Was kind of interesting. Chris Evans was
in it, albeit in a small role. He played a crazy guy. It was not
his best role. Anton Yelchin starred in it, and was very good.
He also had played Chekov in the last 3 Star Trek movies. I
only just now read of his death as I had looked up the movie
online. Very sad. He was 27. Star Trek Beyond is the most
recent of the 3 Trek movies he was in. It's due in theaters
next month. He was a great actor.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day Special Edition

I'll be frank and say I've never been a fan of the special edition cut, which initially felt like it's dragging an already long movie to a crawl, but after revisiting this after many years, I think I might like this more than the theatrical cut due to the extended scenes giving more wight to the T-800's character development and also gives more space between the action scenes. A must see for those who've only seen the Theatrical Cut.

5/5
