The New World - 6.5/10

For what was in it, it was decent, but Mallick fills his movies with so much Pseudo-artistic fluff, that had he cut out the fat, he'd be lucky to have a 90 minute movie. The feeling I'm usually left with after watching a TM film, is that the Director is just so full of himself, he actually hobbles his own narrative by trying to somehow seem artistically transcendent. I mean, there are only so many shots of sunlight streaming through a hole in a hut that are needed. We get it, now let's try and tell the actual story, because the actual story is pretty good. More than I can say for Tree of Life.

For Snikt: Ben Mendhelson was in this movie, according to the credits, but his acting must have been so "transformative" that I was unable to recognize the master at work. Oh well, next time I guess.

Most overrated director in history.

X Men Apocalypse- 7/10 (As a comic book movie)

It's not a great film, and Apoc looks lame, but he's a better antagonist than most of the MCU villains...and MOS Zod and Enchantress in SS.

I know the hand to hand combat action in the X MEN films is not great, but the display of powers in this film is as comic book as it gets and more impressive in terms of how powerful the characters are than anything in the MCU or DCEU (so far). Apoc fighting multiple X MEN while mentally battling Xavier and Jean is great. :yess:

It's actually cool to see powerful comic characters be powerful on film even if it takes using too much crappy CGI. I hope Thanos can live up to X Men Apocalypse.

Can't believe I'm about to write this, but...

Me Before You - 7.5/10

Was the Wife's night to pick a movie, thought I was about to watch one of those nauseatingly predictable romantic dramas, I was wrong, at least to a degree. I quite enjoyed this film, it didn't go the way I expected and was amazed to see how good of an actress Emilia (Khaleesi) Clarke is. It's not a Oscar caliber performance, but she did a very solid acting job. Everyone in the film was good, it had the type of humor I appreciate, and was well made all around. I'll take this over The Notebook or (a personal facorite of my Wifes) P.S. I Love You any day.

I watched this for a 2nd time last night and I find it great, 8/10. That last hour is fantastic. It just drags a bit too long in the first hour and a half, but otherwise, I like the darker tone and all that.

The Shallows: 6.5/10

Pretty good overall. Very tense. I was on board with all of it until

how she actually killed the shark.

But otherwise it was good.

Definitely a controversial ending that will rub a good number of people the wrong way. I loved every minute of it.

I'd still probably lean toward an overall rating of 8/10, mostly because I honestly don't think they aspired to be anything more than an 8. Not all films will transcend their respective genres, nor should they.

Genocyber - 6/10

Another schlock OVA from 90s.
Messy plot and underdevelopt characters but cool visuals and awesome music.

Porco Rosso - 8/10
It was fun. And funny. Michael Keaton plays a pilot pig man, too!

Kubo and the Two Strings - 9/10
I hadn't heard really anything about this movie before I'd seen it. I thought it was amazing.

The Accountant - 8/10
Great performances from the whole cast. I was surprised with how much I liked it, especially after hearing "meh" things about it.
I didn't really care for J.K. Simmons' storyline in the film, but it was still interesting. It tied in a bit nicely.

Cool Beetlejuice pic :D

Thanks! :D It was made by the very talented Veil1!

I'm not sure when I'll get to see this one but it's good to hear from someone who liked it.
