Re: Rise of the Apes

I think Franco is a good actor. Milk and 127 Hours showed he can do serious work.

Re: Rise of the Apes

So wait. I honestly had no idea this was coming out until I saw the trailer today. I just read the synopsis after I kept seeing the name Ceaser being thrown around in here. It's been forever since I've seen any of the apes films but wasn't Ceaser the son of Cornelius and not even around until one of the later films? Are they just changing the mythology or is it something they aren't revealing?

Yes, he was. And he was a small chimp in the third movie and was left in the care of a man who owned a circus and in the fourth movie, Ceaser led the rebellion against the humans. In the fourth movie, apes were being trained to be slaves for humans. Ceaser was smart from birth because because Cornelius and the mother (Vera, i think) wen't back in time to our time where she gave birth to him. He wasnt a lab experiment.

Re: Rise of the Apes

So if we go by the mythology of The Planet Of The Apes, Ceaser should not even be around for this film right? Which would mean they are indeed changing the mythology of the existing series. I don't care either way I was just curious.

It was Zira. Vera was his Aunt. ;) :D

Re: Rise of the Apes

Looks kind of lame but whatever. Apes become invisible when they jump around in trees?

:exactly: The best part of the clip was the 4 sec piece of the monkey moving his eyes contemplating evilness..... Never judge a film based on a trailer but unless other clips impress it will be a rental.

Re: Rise of the Apes

Near the end when they are jumping in the trees is looks like they are "clear" kind of like when the Predator when it was disappearing. Maybe its just my eyes are bad.

I see what you're saying.

The apes are just moving/swinging fast through the trees and leaves are falling giving a blurred appearance.

That's what I'm seeing anyway. Your mileage may vary. :D

Well, in a reboot/re-imagining the goal is to end up in the same place - a world controlled by apes. Seems this accomplishes that. But that kind of takes away what was cool about the first film - a human in a world run by apes and not knowing how such a thing could happen. That movie implied that humans destroyed themselves and apes just evolved into the dominant species. Of course that completely changed with the time travel thing.

So this is yet another interpretation - but seems to discard a lot of what made the original franchise cool.

I'll still see it though.

Escape is my second favourite movie.
I love how it turns everything on it's head. Humans still destroyed themselves, because if they had not acted so barbarically to Cornelius and Zira, and listen to their warnings, they may have prevented their own downfall.

Re: Rise of the Apes

Hasslein spoke of multiple timelines… Virgil indicated that "lanes can be changed"... Cornelius' account in Escape and what actually happened in Conquest and Battle shows the shift in history.

Re: Rise of the Apes

Looks interesting, although like other people have mentioned, a big departure from what made the first film great. Apes look very real. While they are very realistic, I still miss the human form the apes took in the original films.
