Just seen the trailer. I've been pretty much against this from the start purely on principle and haven't been following it too much, didn't realise Keaton and Oldman were in this so was a little optimistic when I heard their voices in the trailer. However, I quickly realise that this looks like absolute garbage. I can't believe this is a Hollywood movie. It looks like some cheap knock off 90's mo ie you'd find for 1.99 in a bargain bin or in a pound shop. Everything about this looks trash.

Looks suprisingly good. The suit looks good on him especially in the orignal colors, not shure why the need for black.

Looks like cool action, i have faith.

You must say 10 hail marys and watch Robocop 1 immediately to cleanse whatever demons you have inside you, and what demons they must be.

It's not just the colors. The proto suit is much bulkier with visual cues taken from the original. The "tactical" version eliminated all of those things and made it black on top of it.

I'd rather watch the whole of Robocop 3 than watch that trailer again. The only good thing about the trailer is that it just reminds me of how awesome the first Robocop is.

I never understood the point of a remake if it's completely unrecognizable from the source material.

See, i'm all for a remake that does something new with the source. But the problem with this film is...it's popular...and everyone wants to see the same movie again, but different. Which is why it's going to suck.

I don't understand why people/studios think its better to use bad cgi when 30 odd years ago the original used an actual suit and it looked awesome. Surely the idea of an updated remake is to make things looks better, not worse. :lol I genuinely can't believe how bad this looks.

If you use something real, people say it looks fake. If you use something fake, people now call it real.

CGI has become real in people's eyes.

Personally I think CGI is ruining the industry. It would be nice if someone actually took the time to use real models with real locations instead of creating everything with a computer. When done properly, CGI looks great. But everybody and their brother with a script in their hand abuses the technology to the point that nothing but garbage is being released. And Hollywood wonders why it isn't making any money. I heard this morning on the radio that 100,000 plus folks from the movie industry got laid off last month. I'm not asking for blockbusters, just something I can say was enjoyable to watch and worth my money.

There's nothing about the original that needed updating. Nothing.

The score is timeless. The suit is timeless.

With regard to politics George Bush Sr. was in office when the first was released and his son just got out of office a few years ago.

Evil corporations are still relevant. Cybernetics and robots are farther along than in 1987 but the technology featured in the original movie is still "futuristic" even today.

The original Murphy was a Christ figure. People still believe in Jesus Christ. And so on.

NOTHING needed to be updated!

"Oh but this is adding more 'tactical' realism." Nope, it doesn't even have that. The new dude jumps around like those GI Joe idiots in their accelerator suits. A robot/man who is basically an indestructible tank with precision targeting and recorded memory is actually much more grounded in reality than the silliness in the new movie. So the remake doesn't even have Nolanesque "realism" going for it. It has nothing.

The only old thing is, I really don't think anyone is gonna see this and think its genuinely good so I have no worries about it being even remotely successful. I tnk it'll be generally panned by everyone. EVERYONE!! (Oldman style)

:exactly::goodpost:

The original is aging beautifully. No matter what comes about with this film or in the future, I can say with absolute certainty that Robocop 1 is the pinnacle of the franchise.

Though I may not agree that the original is "timeless," I do agree that it didn't need to be "re-imagined." But because of that, all you have to do is ignore the new one and the original doesn't get affected in any way. The trailer doesn't look too bad to me as a fairly mindless action movie. I'll maybe watch it on DVD.

Couldn't have said it better buddy.

They seem to have gone so leftfield from the original that it may have a chance to succeed but it will never sit along the original.

It's amazing to think that the original suit still looks modern and futuristic after nearly thirty years since its release. :clap

Looks nothing like the original.
Design and story wise.
Thats the Best idea they ve had.
But it looks pretty bland and generic.
Might be a decent flick seeing the talent involved.
