Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I actually don't mind dark and gritty.

I think Nolan destroyed the credibility of that phrase.

Something like Dredd which is really dark and gritty, unlike the Nolan movies, would be pretty cool for Star Wars, obviously not as violent though, because of da keedz.

I just don't want it to try to hard. tdkr is a movie i thought tried way to hard to be realistic.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I agree, which is why it ruined the term.

I thought TFA was pretty dark and gritty at times, like when Finn gets his helmet all bloody, that was great.

Dredd dark, gritty and mega bloody yet at the same time is really fun too. Perfection! :clap

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

And I don't recall them ever promoting it as "dark, gritty, grounded, realism" during Dredd's marketing or promotional campaign. Same for Fury Road. The projects and final products spoke for themselves.

For all the superhero movies, Bond movies, and now, Star Wars, it seems like they just have to put emphasis on how much darker, gritty and realistic something is. It's become a cliche at this point. I'm surprised the Deadpool campaign hasn't parodied these terms yet.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I loathe the use of "reboot" for movies. It became vogue at some point and replaced "remake". It's used so often it's become meaningless.

Most of the aliens in TFA were decent if non-offensive. Except the Rathtars - that design was stupid AF.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I think the studios have just figured out that certain groups of fandom respond to certain phrases like mice to food pellets.

"Throw out a "practical effects" quote this week, "dark and gritty" next week. Let's save "back to the franchise roots" for the week before reviews hit. Is Anthony Daniels available? LOL, just kidding. Get a quote from him."

Awesome:

It is said that a 'Darth Vader Dream Team' is being assembled. The costume to be seen on screen is nothing like the sleek, refined, skinnier version we saw at the end of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The costume appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is being meticulously recreated to match the Darth Vader seen in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Inside sources claim that the costume is very close, and that the filmmakers, including director Gareth Edwards, are extremely happy with the outcome. Brian Muir, the original sculptor on the first Darth Vader costume, is said to have returned with his team.
Perhaps even bigger news is that James Earl Jones will return to reprise his voice role as Darth Vader, something he recently did on the Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels. This will be the Darth Vader we know from the original trilogy.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

It's been quiet on the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scoop front; the gravitational pull of The Force Awakens has allowed that movie to kind of sneak by the collective geek consciousness. We know it's out there but most of us haven't been focusing on it.

That doesn't mean Lucasfilm was ignoring it. The film started with a story by John Knoll - the Chief Creative Officer at ILM and one of the guys who invented Photoshop - and it came into script form at the fingers of Gary Whitta. When Whitta left the project Chris Weitz picked up the baton, but I have heard that even after all those people the script for Rogue One, the tale of how the Death Star plans ended up in Rebel hands, wasn't exactly in the right place. And so Lucasfilm called in a script doctor.

Not just any script doctor! It was Christopher McQuarrie, one of the better writers out there, and a guy who has been called on to quietly fix major motion pictures before (most famously: World War Z). According to my sources McQuarrie came in fairly early during shooting and used his Usual Suspects/Mission: Impossible skills to tighten up and fix this heist story set in the Star Wars universe.

It's unlikely that McQuarrie will get a credit on the movie, although one source used the word 'saved' when talking about McQuarrie's contribution to the film. Is the movie going to be good? We only have eleven months to wait...

Wow. I'd hate to see what kinda of condition a POS like WWZ was in before it was "saved". :panic:

Oh man, thanks for posting this, I'm genuinely hyped for this movie.

And I can't wait for Vader figures of this :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Looks like HT ANH Vader 2.0 is gonna happen! And awesome news about the recreation of the ANH look. Figured they would have gone with the inaccurate ESB look

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I really wish Gareth Edwards was doing Episode 9 instead of Trevorrow. :( Hell, I wouldn't even mind if Trevorrow and Edwards swapped and CT was doing Rogue One and GE doing Ep 9!

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I've got a feeling this one is going to sneak up on us. They have been referring to it as a heist movie, but I think it's going to be much more tense and suspenseful as opposed to just flying in some X-Wings and saving the day. The pics and costumes have more of a dirty dozen feel to them. So the story might have more of a suicide mission vibe. The characters might have strong back stories as to why they would go to almost certain death to stop a doomsday weapon. This would be something quite different than the typically drawn good guy bad guy. Imagine what it will take to infiltratie the Death Star, slip on board, find the plans, and get out of dodge. All the while having an extremely powerful, force sensitive and deadly 7' tall Sith Lord hunting you down. This might also be the most badass Vader as well. Just because there won't be any Jedi v Sith lightsaber battles doesn't mean there won't be some cool action and fight sequences. I would like to see some aliens in the mix. Wonder if there will be any new droid designs. Typical ST movies have had to be rushed to get in all the story pieces. This one can be more focused on the single storyline. Will have to wait for the first trailer, but I only had passing interest before and now this could be on my must see list.

Anything cinematic SW is a must see in Imax x 6 for me.

That's just a given. :lol

Even the PT received repeated viewings.

That would be cool.
But i doubt they would go for anything that badass.
Sadly.
