Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Let us not forget the new(er) generations attention span is like 5 secs so building a slower back story for a character is potential box office suicide. These films are for kids so whether the main character is male / female they will escalate their learning , training which for older audience will typically be skewed as forced.

Either accept it and enjoy what they offer or always be critical and unsatisfied.

Talk about false advertising.

I was never a Skywalker fan, and from the looks of it, most people prefer Han Solo. Luke as the protagonist of the story is probably one of the weakest aspects of SW, imo. He's not my type of hero.

Oh, I bet she'll be unstoppable. She's Rey 2.0, and part of a larger agenda, which includes expanding the fanbase to include more girls. You can even see it on the new toy commercials which shows boys and girls playing SW. SW was always a boy brand, but Disney wants to change that. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it seems a bit forced (no pun intended).

How true- yep Disney is gonnna force this on us like it or not. Fine but the film better not be the new Disney MCU turned SWU template..same thing different year

That's harsh, man...
Luke was the hero I could easily relate to.
His transformation from a farmboy into the Jedi in three films was awesome.
And I only cared for Han because he was Luke's friend and part of his journey.

Yeah I agree 100% with you there.

Luke's not as cool as Han (at least not in the first film - Luke's cooler than Han in ROTJ), but Han isn't anywhere near as relatable as Luke. Luke's story is Star Wars, and every one else around him are the other Joseph Campbell elements that make his journey possible and interesting.

Exactly- Luke we can idenify with when we were kids- Han was the "old man" to me!:lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Didn't GL claim that the OT were really about Vader and not Luke?

Yeah but that was probably after he came up with the idea of Space Jesus prequel Anakin.

George has claimed a lot of things about the saga over the years, and seems to change his views on certain topics every time he's asked about them. So I just choose to interpret the films and infer background stuff for myself rather than specifically trust what he says.

I guess I wasn't interested in relating to the hero when I was a kid. It'd be like wanting to be John Connor instead of Arnold. I like Luke in ROTJ, but man it took a long time for him to be cool.

Damn, what does that make him in TFA? :lol

Always was and always remain a Vader fan.....even after Lucas made him a pathetic old bald man...:rotfl Luke and Han journey ate up time until Vader came back on screen.

When I look at these films now, it's after decades of pop-culture, personal growth and nostalgia have warped them. I'm sure that as a child I simply accepted them. I didn't start calling Luke whiny until I got much older.

As was Luke. I think including more girls is great; and if that means a little bit of over-compensation, only us adults will notice.

You know, I abandoned comics and geeky pursuits in my teens because I chose to pursue girls. It'd be decades before I re-connected with that aspect of pop-culture, and while it's still not truly "mainstream" I see a lot more women into it now, than when I was a teenager, and I can only see that as a good thing for everyone.

This too.
