Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

:lol I've been told the older I get the less I care, I'm moving fast towards that place of nirvana but there's still some whining left in me.

meh....circle of focus will become more clear but i still have gaps. I don't care about movies but I still care about collecting a damn doll

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Im personally happy to see latinos in star wars.
I hate that it took 7 movies for star wars to have latinos in the movies. I understand the original trilogy not having any but i never understood why lucas never hired latinos for big roles in the prequels.
Seems kinda racist. When hollywood liberals want to add diversity to movies they often ignore latinos. Look at ghostbusters 3 or the marvel movies. Took until ant man to get latinos in marvel. Wtf....
For such liberal directors they sure love to ignore latino actors. That was the most disgusting thing about ghostbusters and the modern feminist movement in general. They dont really care.

Im happy that this movie and force awakens had latinos.
I wont lie, i love that. I love both actors so it is great to see them.
So that part of diversity i am happy with.
I just hope they hire people based on their talent as well and not just as token characters. I hope to see more variety BUT also get good actors.

They ignore Latinos, Asians and other minorities, you have to understand "diversity" only means black people and women.

Personally I don't care, I don't have any victim complex, I don't feel the need to be "represented" nor I have any difficulty empathizing with a female character or any other race.

I just don't want that **** done just because they think they make us minorities happy. It doesn't, not if it ruins my damn superheroes, space operas and toys it doesn't.

Not caring about politics and only caring about dolls.

Han did give him a large blaster rifle but he never got to use it I don't think. He was like 4 for 4 in shooting wasn't he? No wonder he was looking for a blaster on Jakku. :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Being "represented" when you're a self-aware adult can go either way. Maybe you don't need it or want it, maybe it gives you a sense of inclusion.

But when it's just part of your world as a child growing up, and nobody questions it because it's just life, and you can go on with worrying about something other than race or orientation...I can't prove it but I suspect it's a powerful thing.

I think these choices aren't made for us; they're for a (hopefully) better world to come.

I'm no SJW nor am I unaware of just how hard life is in general. I don't believe in heavy social engineering, but this is entertainment.

I don't want to coddle anyone. What I'm suggesting is that a paradigm shift in mass media isn't necessarily a bad thing; and that people of a certain age (myself included) may roll their eyes from time to time, but it may be one less thing for a kid growing up somewhere, to worry about sorneday.

Ethically speaking, if you could remove one pain point from a kid's life, would you? Why not?

Bruce Lee is for everyone and so is Luke Skywalker. In the same vein, so are Rey and Finn. We notice things kids don't.

Jimmy Smits isn't Latino?

White women..... diversity to hollywood sjw means more white women lol

Is not about having a victim complex for me or not feeling represented but if they are going to push this sjw progressive bs then they might as well cast latinos and asians as well... if they want to make us feel guilty for liking our movies and they really want true diversity then get latinos.

Paul feig and ghostbusters disgusts me because of that.
He shoves diversity SO much in our faces and is so arrogant about being a progressive director and then he hires nothing but white women... theres nothing i hate more than that kibd of hipocrisy

Pretty sure he shot several storm troopers; just not sure if it was with that rifle or a First Order blaster.

Haven't actually seen that film or heard from the director, but you make a solid argument.

It was with the First Order blaster he picked up along with the lightsaber after Poe rescued them. Then he shot 2 stormtroopers back to back I think, never missed. :yess: I do remember reading somewhere, where they listed the accuracy of Star Wars character, and I swore it had him at the top of the list, number of shots fired to target hits ratio, shot accuracy.

Thought it was kinda neat that this guy took the time to calculate. Hopefully it is indeed accurate, haha :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

One of the Ewoks was played by a female midget named Margarita Fernandez. She was also one of the penguins in Batman Returns.

Also, Lupita Nyong'o was born in Mexico and speaks better Spanish than JLO.

Exactly, kids shouldn't notice that crap, I didn't, I never went to my parents and asked them "mom, why isn't Batman brown?" or something like that.

Of course I'm not gonna say no to "removing a pain spot" from a kid's life, I'm not that much of a *********, but if there's a pain spot on a kid's life, if the kid DOES notice that stuff, because of identity issues, if seeing someone different to himself is keeping him from empathizing, then the issue is far deeper and covering the symptoms with pop-culture is just putting make up on it, if the TV has to tell the kid "being X skin color is OK", then the issue must instead be addressed by the parents, not by corporations selling you toys.

What the industry is doing is coercing people into feeling guilty for stuff instead of healing wounds.

Sure it's great to have ethnic variety in pop-culture, but it needs to happen organically and certainly NOT while promoting "(white) men are evil".

Edit: I was listening to myself while typing this and I'm having a hard time caring for this stuff anymore :lol Damn you Darkseed!

For sure. I never noticed what colour characters were growing up, and didn't think anything of my friends' genetic backgrounds either, as a child.

I'm open to the real possibility that lack of diversity in mass media has subtle and far-reaching, poorly understood effects; and that we as adults naturally grumble when we see over-correction.

But as for things happening "organically" -- I understand the spirit of your comment, but someone has to make these decisions somewhere at some point, and demographics are just math at the end of the day.

And there has been a diverse population for a very long time. I suggest that what we see as awkward or forced may in fact be, "organic" -- and rather late in the game, at that.

I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding empathy. The race of your hero should be no barrier to that either way.

I'm taking a more holistic view where demographics should be well-represented and then the only thing left to do is tell a good story. And if you screw that up, well that's a different issue.

And painting white males with the evil brush doesn't help anyone, no.

I agree that the media can definitely help, but with these forced changes what they're doing is actually divide the people more, which is why all the controversy, race-swapping, gender-swapping established characters that people love, how the Empire are evil white guys, this stuff alienates people, and the opposing group then feels alienated when these changes are not accepted.

Everbody loves Ripley, everybody loves Bruce Lee. But anyway, you use a very accurate term; "overcorrection", being tremendously optimistic maybe it's just that and society is going through a period of readjustment.

I'm not calling anyone by their made up pronouns though, that's were I draw the line.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Movies are enjoyed globally and sometimes it is nice to have some characters that do represent you.
These movies reach the whole world so having people with backgrounds from around the world is cool.

Spiderman or batman dont need to be brown. But their friends could be. Or asian, or whatever. ( while hiring good actors though)

It sucks because real diversity itself is good, but fake SJW diversity is annoying.
