Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

You're always going to have contradictions when you make a sequel and/or a prequel, always. **** never matches up for whatever reason, unless the films and stories are being made simultaneously.

It's bad enough having three years between movies for things to get screwy, but when you have 22 years between Star Wars and Episode I and damn near 40 years between Star Wars and Rogue One, things are going to be inconsistent. The guy that made the whole thing couldn't even keep it all straight, how do you expect a third party of writers and filmmakers to do it?

That's why canon doesn't exist. Only a matter of time before Disney's Star Wars universe gets rebooted with a worm hole or time travel thing to reset everything.

Forgot to mention: the bald imperial officer who was advising Tarkin towards the end is in ANH in the conference room scene.

Yeah, The Empire Strikes Back had the biggest inconsistency of all time -- going from (Vader) betrayed and murdered your father to "I am your father "-- but somehow we all got around that. From a certain point of view.

Oh, BTW, spoilers for you kiddies whose first Star Wars movie is Rogue One. Sorry.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

But Leia even tells Han that she hopes when the data is analyzed that a weakness could be found. She said it with a 100% uncertain demeanor.

Why "hope"?

Rebel leaders were well aware of the vent shaft back door, wouldn't Leia of all people know.

Wouldn't she instead say to Han that the plans have a back door that she hopes the rebellion can take advantage of?

I don't know, sure it can be twisted to fit by saying that Leia or Dodonna acted on a need to know basis but I don't know...it just doesn't feel as natural as it should.

I say alter A New Hope to make Erso's subplot more seamless lol.

Leia only wanted han or luke to take advantage of her Blackfoot.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Biggest left field invention of the OT was the brother/sister relationship. I will never see it as more than something Lucas pulled out of his ass.

In 1978 there was a book "Splinter of the Mind's Eye". It was originally developed as a "Plan B" story if Harrison Ford didn't sign the line to return. It has Lucas ideas it it and it was a road almost taken for the first sequel.

Splinter features an ongoing flirtation and beginning of a relationship for Luke and Leia. It wasn't the kind of thing Lucas would have helped develop if they were siblings.

So Ford agrees to come back and Lucas allows the book to be published because he wants to keep Star Wars in the public eye. It will be almost two years before the next film is ready.

Empire doesn't contradict Splinter. Leia and Luke continue their brief flirtation. Luke needs to rescue his friends on Cloud City mainly because Leia is there and he loves her.

Between Empire and Jedi Lucas fires Gary Kurtz. Gary and Irvin Kirshner made a lot of unilateral decisions while filming in Norway and Pinewood without Lucas. Empire ran $3m USD over budget and Lucas needed to go to 20th Century on bended knee to finish the film. He held Kurtz responsible. Many people think the real problem is Kurtz disagreed with George on artist issues.

ROTJ is a big departure from the first two films. It's 10 pounds of sh-- in a 5 pound bag. There's no room for a romance side-story, so George resolves it by taking Luke out of the love triangle. They're siblings. Problem solved. More screen time for puppets and teddy bears. Huge cop-out.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Maybe Bail was in a hurry and didn't get the chance to fill Leia in on all the details. As for the rebel briefing, lots of people don't say things back the way they first heard them. I suppose being told about the weakness and finding it in the plans could be considered two different things. Whatever, I still liked the movie enough to ignore some of these things.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

I still think it would have been cool if Vader wasn't Luke's father and was just ****ing with Luke to try and break him down and get him to turn to the dark side. I wonder how that would have played out.

Like this:

Vader: You fool! You believed me? I lied to you. I'm not your father. I killed him. He begged for his life. So I made him squeal. Like a little pig. I betrayed and murdered your father. And I raped him. Twice. But now that you are a Jedi I want you to join me. For no good reason. But maybe I feel a little bad about killing your father. So I'm offering you this job

Luke nearly fell for one of the Classic Blunders, the first being never get involved in a land war in Asia.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

Going for my 2nd viewing at 5pm PST with a fellow freak who has not seen it.

I plan on spoiling the experience by constantly saying "oooo, this part is good coming up". :lol j/k

Sometimes I wish movies had the 5-second-repeat function that my DVR has. Sometimes I find my hand reaching out as if to do it in the movie.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Why doesn't Vader just stop the ship from flying away? It wasn't moving that fast, just taking off.

I'm pretty sure that what Magneto would do in that same situation.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

I will say that while TFA didn't live up to the hype (for me), Rogue One saved the franchise (for me).

I loved the film and it just felt that it was made "by fans for fans". At least that is the impression I got. The little "Easter Eggs" throughout were great winks to the fans without being too obvious.

I loved the fact that it was also a film for adults. No obnoxious or infantile characters or humor. It was a gritty war film set in the Star Wars universe.

I sincerely hope it does better than TFA and Disney learns that it's best to head in this direction for future films.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Just wondering, has anyone seen the numbers 1138 anywhere in the movie? I've seen it a few times already and didn't notice them on anything.
