Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

I liked it overall, just didn't love it. Didn't really care for Saw, Jyn, Jyn's dad, Bodhi or Cassian. They all fell flat for me. K-2S0 stole the show and honestly had the most moving death of the group. Chirrut was cool too and I liked his relationship with Baze.

Felt like Saw could have been removed entirely and made the movie 20-30 minutes shorter. Just didn't care for the arc at all. He was too hokey for me.

Loved all the creatures. They did a much better job this time around then with Force Awakens. They were all more Star Warsy.

I was okay with all of the cameos except maybe Bail. I was okay with him being there, my problem was that he barely aged since episode III, meanwhile Obi Wan is an old man.

The score was pretty lackluster. It deserved more. I get that the guy only had 4 weeks or whatever to write it, but this move deserved more and kind of shows how important John Williams has been to the franchise. All of the music is forgettable except for maybe one or two pieces.

Tarkin was awesome. He looked fake to me at times but my wife couldn't tell until I told her after. Leia was a little more jarring but I wasn't expecting her at all so glad they had the guts to try it.

Love that Vader has a castle on Mustafar. Just makes him super bad ass. Bacta Tank is cool.

The ending was my favorite part. Sure it doesn't make sense when you jump to Episode IV but I don't care. This was the Vader I have wanted for so long.

I think overall I liked Force Awakens more, but I think the moments with Vader and Tarkin were cooler than anything in Force Awakens.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

There's room for another movie in that missing 10-15 minutes of narrative.
:lol

:lol

Remind me why are we saying Leia wasn't at Yavin though. Is there a line of dialogue I'm forgetting. Maybe she was just on a ship in orbit.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

Maybe we shouldn't get moar Vader....they could ruin him again. Rogue One brought him back to bada$$ery after what they've been doing to him since 1983.

FTFY my son.

Do you really think Vader is a badass in ROTJ though?

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

The Jedi he's talking about is Obi-Wan. He knows Obi-Wan is on Tatoonie because of the end of Revenge of the Sith. The woman he trusts with his life is Princess Leia, his daughter who he sends to go pick up Obi-Wan who, ironically, gets him killed because she doesn't name the system of the rebel base.

Dunno if that was cruely added in the italian dubbing (I'm gonna see it undubbed on monday) but Bail said something like "he served me well during the CLone Wars".

Not in the sense of actually kicking ass, no. But he still had serious presence. And until the blu-ray (?) he didn't say ''Nnnoooo''

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

He mentions that I believe, so it wasn't just your dub.

What was up with that weird shot when Bail is first introduced? It pans over to him approaching the Yavin Rebel conference when Jyn is talking to Mom Montha and they start playing the Star Wars music when Bail is in frame. Then . . . it cuts out of the scene. He doesn't say anything, he doesn't do anything except approach the table. Thought that was odd like something was missing. When the music plays and he becomes the focus of the scene, I was like it's just "Jimmy Smits!", who cares!

I agree. 2 things I would have changed/added to round things out.

1. Since Leia was a member of the imperial senate, I would have shown her in that arena and receiving a message about the battle taking place. She then hops on her ship and flies by the perimeter of the battle, has the plans "beamed aboard" and takes off. Several other things would have to change, like c3po and r2 as well as Antillies, but I think it would have worked better. Vader could still have been in it at the end, just he would have been making his way to the bridge to stop the transmission.

2. I would have fleshed out the flashback scene of Galen's early years in the Empire. Have him directly or secretively learn of the true purpose of the station. Perhaps during drunken banter, one of the high ranking officers lets it slip, then the camera zooms in on Galen's "Oh crap what have I done" face. After all, in the beginning all the scientists thought they were building a mining machine that drilled into a planet surface (taken from the Tarkin novel). As is the movie just shows everyone knowingly and willingly building a planet killing weapon. This would also explain why Galen had a change of heart and left in the first place. Why even start the project if you know what the outcome is?

Yeah. He was a very minor role in the PT and that moment tried to signpost him like we were seeing Ewan McGregor's Obi-wan. It didn't annoy me or anything, just strange.

Anakin as Darth Vader in ROTS is more of a serious threat than he is in ROTJ. I'm not talking about him in the iconic Vader suit either, just the newly christened, robed Anakin Darth Vader.

In ROTS, Vader is being the Emperor's little ***** because he doesn't want his family to die and feels betrayed by his friends. With a battalion of troops he goes and masacares a bunch of said Jedi friends and children, goes to Mustafar and murders the surrending Separtatists and gets his limbs lobbed off while burning alive in agony. Pretty hardcore stuff.

In ROTJ, Vader is being the Emperor's little ***** . . . for absolutely no reason at all. He just "must obey his master". All he does during the movie is pick on Moff Jerjerrod and tries to poorly convince Luke to join the emperor (nothing he says is convincing). He's belittled, talked down to, gets his ass handed to him by Luke and turns out to be an old marshmallow man. Then he's somehow forgiven for all of his sins. It didn't take the Blu Ray "noooo" to make him suck, he was always planned that way, even in deleted scenes.

Look at him tapping his fingers onto his chest like a goof and ceasing his actions because "it's what the Emperor commands".

He was willing to get himself killed so his son could take his place in a life of misery at his master's side. Doesn't get much more pathetic than that. This was the guy from Star Wars and Empire that hated the Rebels and had aspirations to overthrow the Emperor and rule the galaxy on his own.

Rogue One gave him his balls back for sure, but it wasn't the prequels that took them away. Anakin Skywalker sucked long before 1999.

2 planets destroyed!? Guess there really wasn't a need for a test, and I didn't like how the planet destruction did not match the destruction in the original.

Both times only 1 reactor was used to power the laser.

in ANH Tarkin says I think it s time we demonstrate the FULL power if this station.

It's hard to disagree with that. As a story arc Vader was established in ROTS and peaked in ESB. RO Vader slots nicely into that timeline.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Impressive ending although I felt the start was a bit choppy they were jumping from planet to planet it felt strange and they toned down some of the emotion in the beginning I guess they decided not to go full private Ryan the phylsophy of war moral issues.

One thing though this movie as taught me that we really do lose out on great story telling when we confine our selves to a set formula. Despite this being a Disney movie they did not shy away from all the tragedy of war had this been been a marvel movie they would have all lived to exist in some sequel some where .

That's what they man thing we have really lost to this never ending sequel machine, a satisfying conclusion to a story.

These comic movies are becoming TV episodes instead of movies because , iron man , must live on to appear in spider man and infinity war . There is no satisfying conclusion with regards to the characters . It just continues across movies and across franchises.

You know what though, I'd never seen those deleted scenes before....

edit - most people cite the Luke/Vader/Emperor stuff and the space battle as the big redeeming factors of ROTJ. DiFabio would seemingly wipe the former off the list leaving just the space battle? Dayum.

I wonder if that was Hayden in the tank.

Should've just used him for the Vader scenes as well.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

I like Luke and the Emperor, I think the Throne Room is one of the best scenes in the movie!

But Vader (along with Harrison Ford, the ewoks, the Leia is my sister revelation, the lighting and shot composition), sucks. A-dev, I know you've mentioned problems with his redemption and how he's pretty unredeemable and I agree. It's not because of his actions in the prequels though. Just disregarding them, Vader is a piece of crap. No, not because of ANH or Empire, but because of Jedi. He could have defected on Endor if his son, his blood, meant that much to him. But he doesn't. He brings Luke up to the Emperor and is completely fine with his son killing him and taking his place as the Emperor's **** boy. Even goads Luke by suggesting his sister take his place if he doesn't turn.

The whole "I sense good in you" thing is lame. What "good" is there in him? Vader clearly believes in the Force, the Dark Side and the Empire and is convinced that is the right path. Vader doesn't consider himself a bad guy, it's clear in ANH and even Rogue One. He's not enthusiastic about the Death Star, he's not about destroying millions of lives and respects the Force just as much as Yoda or the blind dude in Rogue One. He even considers overthrowing the Emperor. Then by Jedi, all of the that is thrown out of the window and suddenly he's just a slave. "There's no hope for me Luke", "Obi-Wan once thought as you do Luke", "you don't know the power of the dark side Luke, I have to obey my master". He never makes a compelling argument why Luke should turn, he just acts like a victim who has no choice. It's pretty bad. He's "redeemed" because suddenly he decides to make the most obvious choice he should have done earlier? I don't think so. Once you take into account betraying his friends, killing all the Jedi, children, torturing Leia, torturing Han, beating his son to a pulp and lobbing off his hand, etc. he shouldn't get to become a cheesy, grinning Force ghost.

Even in Episode III he isn't that pathetic. Palpatine is a means to an end and he even considers overthrowing him before he fights Obi-Wan.
