I got a kick out of all the Cameo fan service stuff, but the point is a good one.....The whole Evanzen thing was totally out of place and uneeded, as was R2 and 3pO (thrown in so they could say they are still in each film), the mouse droid, Death Star droid (not even in an Imperial area).

I mean at what point does this get to be too much? And nothing more that fan "service"

Why not add Greedo? People like him?

Oh , and a Slave girl in Leias ROTJ outfit on the beach!

I was seriously expecting to see Jabba any minute.....or maybe Boba Fett? How about a Jawa or two!

I wonder how people would have reacted if the fan service was an Ewok......

My biggest gripe with this film is that it absolutely could have been a 10/10. The ingredients to make it that were all there, they simply chose not to use them.

After three viewings I'm sticking with 8/10.

The Tantive IV is there at Yavin. Either on the ground or in orbit. They are owned by Captain Antilles and travel with him to the battle. I don't really see a problem.
I guess what could have been done better is that when Bail says he's going back to Alderaan, it's seemingly to get Leia. But then just she and Antilles are in the space battle--Raddus is suddenly in the thick of it so it's unclear if he went straight from Yavin, but Leia wasn't seen there and the Tantive is attached to his ship. With no indication that Leia is on Yavin it just feels like these characters were going in different directions (Bail going to get Leia) yet the Tantive is suddenly there with her on board.

The movie also does make it feel like everyone is departing the base while 3PO and R2 are just hangin, it's not like you see them in the vicinity of Antilles or Fleet Troopers at any point that I'm aware of so it almost feels like an afterthought where they were just green screened into a shot. Regardless none of that stuff took me out of the movie even on second viewing.

I think Tarkin and Vader served their purpose and were brought in with good justification and in good measure, no fan service complaint from me on them

But there is from some people who are talking about fan service. You've got people with the same complaint not agreeing on what was or wasn't acceptable/excessive fan service. The makers of the film can't possibly please everyone - there isn't a definitive optimum of referencing that will satisfy everyone and irritate no one. I dunno, IMO that criticism is a waste of time.

:lol I just learned today that Warrick Davis was that little troll. The creature looks so similar to an ugnaught yet much shorter and I didn't think of an ugnaught when seeing it the first time, plus there's been no mention that he is an ugnaught. That makes it all the more baffling, did they inadvertently rip off a Star Wars creature?

This is more dramatic than the actual film.

:lol

No it's fine, your experience was your experience. I'm just surprised, that's all.
I don't know how this will sound but I think this movie could've used some Suicide Squad flashbacks for character moments :lol

Like seeing Jyn's dad teaching her plant something, seeing Chirrut and his buddy see Empire troops ransack a temple, the pilot having a Finn moment where he sees how ****ed up the Empire is, I don't know, even in Private Ryan the remembrance about the lady's huge tiddies brings some characterization that's missing here and sorely needs.

Plus it bothers me that one if not the most important Rebel operation was improvised and planned in like 10 minutes, how incompetent is the Empire?

Yep, someone on another site said that having no mention of the abandoned Rebel base on Dantooine (and/or why it was deserted) was a missed opportunity. But if they did then others would complain of more "fan service." Damned if they do, damned if they don't. I'm not going to argue about how many links from one film to another is the "correct" amount because that would be pointless and futile. I thought RO did a nice job of toeing that line. Sure Walrus Man and the other dude kind of stuck out but I smiled when Jyn bumped into them so no harm no foul.

Anyway, I think I'll leave it at that. If some people don't like the film they don't like the film. I didn't like the prequels, I'm iffy about TFA...I didn't particularly like Avengers Age of Ultron^ :lol

you make no sense. :lol

a complete waste of Ben Mendelsohn.

HE WAS THE MAIN BADDY.

The third act was def completely re-shot and that hurt the film since what they went with was too convenient.

THAT WAS THE BEST PART

so explain, if the two best parts of the flick were your least favorite, how is it a 8/10? :lol

RLM guys have changed my mind, this movie is shallow and it sucks.

While their issues with it are valid and true, I don't know why they were so tough on Rogue One while being all easy on the Force Awakens. Should have ripped Force Awakens a new one, but nope, welcomed it with open arms. Yet this one (Rogue One) gets the magnifying glass and criticized. I just don't get it

RO should receive a beneficial extended cut with additional backstory.

Just call it the Gaspar Cut.

I think Batman v Superman was the first extended cut i've ever seen to actually hurt the movie lol.

Most improve upon their narratives or just keep the quality the same, not BvS.

A proper extended for RO could turn that movie into quite the narrative powerhouse.

It still won't change the minds of those annoyed by the fan service (RLM) but who cares, I loved the Evazan cameo but I would also appreciate the extra character building it would bring.

Why is Jye so defensive? :lol its no like they changed my mind, my reaction was tepid and they just hit the nail like they rarely do.

RLM did go easy on TFA they also do on Marvel movies, they are pretty fickle, but boy they were right here.

Why do people clap and cheer when Vader ignites his lightsaber?

I remember in 2002 I wanted to kill everyone in my audience when they started hooting and hollering in excitement when Yoda started dueling Dooku.

****ing lightsabers. Laser swords were a mistake.

But i'm agreeing with you, this movie would benefit from an extended cut to address those issues that make it somewhat shallow.

I'm selling a sense of humor, interested lol

Note to self....

Go to movies with Khev, never DiFabio.
