ROGUE ONE EDITORS REVEAL ORIGINAL VERSION HAD DIFFERENT CHARACTER INTROS

BY ALEX OSBORN

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story underwent reshoots before its release last year, and editors John Gilroy and Colin Goudie have come forward to discuss some of the changes that were made to the original version.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Gilroy said "the story was reconceptualized to some degree," with new scenes added at the start of the film to better flesh out Rogue One's cast of characters. "We wanted to make more of the other characters, like Cassian's character [played by Diego Luna], and Bodhi’s character [played by Riz Ahmed]," he explained.

"The scene with Cassian’s introduction with the spy, Bodhi traipsing through Jedha on his way to see Saw, these are things that were added," he continued, noting that new material was also added for Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso. "How we set her up and her escape from the transporter, that was all done to set up the story better."

With regard to Rogue One's ending, Gilroy said "it changed quite a bit" from the original version. "The third act has a lot going on. You have like seven different action venues, the mechanics of the act changed quite a bit in terms of the characters," he explained.

While Gilroy refrained from sharing specifics about what was changed, he emphasized that it "wasdifferent" and that they "moved some of the things that our heroes did, they were different in the original then they were as it was conceived."

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards just recently revealed that another aspect of the film was changed, as screenwriter Gary Whitta's first draft included the "long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" crawl, before the idea was scrapped in a meeting prior to filming.

Well that's a new one. ;) Unless I'm mistaken JAWS was the original "no matter what scene is on you get sucked in and watch it to the end" movie. But that being said I can only assume we'll now see a flood "yeah JAWS is so overrated/boring/sucky" posts to follow because, you know, internet. :monkey1

I know.For this reason I live away from the dwelling places of men. :monkey2

That was a great move to give those little introductions to Cassian and Bodhi while keeping Chirrut and Baze a mystery until they joined the battle on Jedha. As I've said before just a little extra backstory dialogue from Chirrut and Baze after the fact (maybe when they were stuck in the cells at Saw's hideout) would have been perfect.

I heard an executive suggested giving each character colorful intros with stats and catchy pop music while using flashbacks. He was fired and some other studio was dumb enough to hired him or something. We'll never know what could have been.

"What if the next Jyn Erso decides to blow herself up inside a REBEL base? Who's gonna stop her?"

I will respect your opinion of one of the greatest films of all time......somehow...

But then again, I feel the same about ;

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Citizen Kane

Never seen either all the way through...far too boring to me.
