I kind of get what you mean. ROTJ is like that for me. I LOVED it as a kid, and still like it, but it's impact is certainly lessened with time for me. I still rewatch ANH now and like it as much as I did before, so it's still "that great" for me.

My list in order would be:

ESB (although this was not my favorite as a kid)
ANH/RO (I feel like I can cheat here and combine them, they're so complementary)
TFA
ROTJ
ROTS
TPM
AoTC

Very good order, RO really should be attached to ANH now.

While I do agree that ESB is the better film it does need ANH for it to reach its level of perfection.

ANH does not need ESB, or RO for that matter, for it to be a standalone excellent movie.

That's why I always consider ANH/ESB to be tied for the 1st spot.

Now AOTC, yeah that can stay at the borrom lol.

Here's the true ranking.

1. STAR WARS (none of that goofy "A New Hope" crap)
2. The Empire Strikes Back

--POWER GAP--

3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. The Phantom Menace

6. My last bowel movement after eating at Old Mexico

7. Rogue One: A Star Wars story
8. The Force Awakens
9. Attack of the Clones

Now everyone STFU.

You know with LFL giving RO the big space battle and not TFA now I wonder if it would be wise to have two big battles in back to back movies that are only a year apart. With the OT we had to wait *six years* to see another space battle after ANH with ESB doing something awesome and different in between. So hopefully Episode 8 (they really need to announce the name because I'm getting sick of typing that out, lol) give us some cool new landscape with vehicles as different from what we've seen before as AT-AT's were to TIE Fighters.

I'm hoping that we see Poe on some adventure with his ship with some smaller battles. I sort of think it was a missed opportunity to not show how he got off Jakku. The use of ships in ESB was excellent (snowspeeder, falcon with meteors and star destroyer, even the bit with Luke and the X-Wing on Dagobah was unique) so hopefully in VIII they can do something different.

RO did a nice job with the U-wing. It felt like a necessary ship (not a single-man fighter) and had a great design and a couple good moments, both fleeing on Jedha and Scarif (manned by the other rebel crew, looked almost like a chopper in Nam there).

Agreed, I really enjoyed the chipmunk guy taking out the AT-ACT's knee, Huey door gunner style.

Watched RO (without any previous trailer viewings) - had to digest after viewing.
Came home listened to reviews and learned more about the planets, characters etc
Watched again and enjoyed it even more!!

Perfect ranking, perfect canon.

I think we can all go home now, it's been fun gentlemen.

:duff

Anything is possible but for Episodes 8 and 9 to truly feel like satisfying canon then they will not only have to be at least as good as RO/ANH/ESB/ROTJ individually but Episode 9 will have to end on such a high note that we're actually glad that ROTJ's victories were short lived and that all the sacrifices made from Scarif to Endor were in vain. A tall order to say the least.

I don't see it happening. And I guess I'll live with it. I'm used to disregarding SW films, Terminator films, Robocop films, Alien films, Die Hard films etc etc

Yeah for a split second I thought "How can I forsake TFA as canon? It starred Harrison, Mark, Carrie, and everyone!" And then I realized I've been doing that for decades with all those films you mentioned, lol. Do I count Jaws 2 just because it has Chief Brody in it? Hell no. :lol

Jaws 2 wasn't bad unless I'm forgetting something truly unforgivable? It's just not a very necessary film at all. Jaws is a perfect standalone classic.

As far as a B grade monster movie it's okay. It's more the silliness of the premise that an unusually giant great white is tormenting the same beach AGAIN. And once again, only one man can stop it... :lol

JAWS is perfect as its own thing. I like to think that Brody got over his fear of the water and lived happily ever after without a dozen more sharks showing up every following summer. "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water" was a great tagline though, I'll give them that.

I have never been able to watch JAWS all the way through. I always fall asleep. Damn boring film, imo. Never understood the following it has.

a-dev and Khev as soon as Luke ignites his lightsaber:

Probably. :lol

TFA is still great because it gave me a "proper" young Anakin in the form of Kylo Ren. And it showed me how ROTJ could have been if Han died after he set the charges in the bunker. And I got to see a cool CG Falcon. Plus all the scenes on Jakku and Rey catching the saber are just so good. So it'll always have merit regardless of whether I think it "counts" or not.

oh snap

oh man I want to be around for this one lol

(Freaks member) JAWS is gonna have a heart attack when he sees what Pixletwin's brought him! *Quint voice*

Does the shark roar in Jaws 2 or is that in the other ones...

Well that's a new one. ;) Unless I'm mistaken JAWS was the original "no matter what scene is on you get sucked in and watch it to the end" movie. But that being said I can only assume we'll now see a flood "yeah JAWS is so overrated/boring/sucky" posts to follow because, you know, internet. :monkey1
