So TFA is up there with Empire on your "quality" list? None of the prequels tho?

choose your next words wisely, Jye.

Oh absolutely!

TFA > PT

Not even close!

That being said...

RO > TFA

Not even close!

Ha I'll gladly say that TFA is more "quality" film making but less "quality" Star Wars

And the only reason I give it a better rating with the film making is because the acting was so much better.

Action and the feel of Star Wars was much better in the PT IMO

Having said all that when you add everything up... PT and TFA are not "quality" Star Wars movies.

Man I hope TLJ saves TFA for me or at least makes it easy to forget.

What action was there in TFA, I forget? A couple times stormtroopers shot at things, X-wings fly-bys, and a lightsaber duel where they snapped some trees. Oh, and the Falcon flew around a junk yard.

But that's very little action actually. And absolutely nothing we haven't seen before.

EDIT: just remembered the only original action bit: stealing a TIE and flying out of hangar. The rest could have been the Falcon.

Yeah, RO blows TFA out of the water in that department.

In all departments actually lol

Gimp Han shooting sideways without looking...snore.

Using Chewie's blaster...snore.

X-Wing assault on Starkiller base...snore.

Still better than the PT though lol

The chase through the market is good--with TIE fighters blowing up the place. And the saber battle at the end is better than Jyn's Stormtrooper fight with her little night stick (where we watch Cassian have the exact same reaction as Finn had watching Rey).

Always thought that shooting-without-looking was so cheesy.

And after all these years, Han never, ever tried Chewie's bowcaster once? Not once?

Even when Hawkeye does it?

Yes the Falcon escape in 3D is the one true spectacular highlight of the movie and I absolutely did enjoy her snow saber fight.

The ANH Special Edition gave him Force powers. Dodging Greedo's blaster fire like he did wasn't natural. The Force is the only answer.

He probably used the Bowcaster before (watch him use it in the Han Solo movie). His memory was getting bad in his old age.

Like how he apparently didn't notice the similarities between Rey and his presumed dead daughter. ;)

But I bet Rey will be pregnant with Han's gray jedi offspring

You can remember the action in the PT though. It stood out. Unfortunate thing is it was surrounded by mostly garbage. TFA had forgettable action surrounded by slightly better then garbage...... I think I might be leaning in favour of the PT.

Whoa, jye. We're clear of the prequels.

Yes, this. That Falcon chase in 3D is a sight to behold, though I'm still annoyed they didn't give us full frame IMAX ratio at home. Snow saber duel was great. And I do enjoy the X-Wing attack on Starkiller, though it isn't on nearly the same level as Rogue One's action.

Rey really needs to suffer a stunning defeat in TLJ though. We need to root for her the way we rooted for Luke after ESB, Rocky after his first bout with Clubber Lang, and Daniel Laruso after getting his ass kicked by Johnny. Twice. As long as she's the defending champion (especially this early on) she'll be harder to cheer for.

Exactly.. All unmemorable. Nothing stood out. PT at least had a handful of memorable moments.

Always thought that shooting-without-looking was so cheesy.

Blah... The no look shot was just poorly done and corny.... It's done several times in RO and it's all done better. Everything in RO is done better.

The chase through the market is good--with TIE fighters blowing up the place. And the saber battle at the end is better than Jyn's Stormtrooper fight with her little night stick (where we watch Cassian have the exact same reaction as Finn had watching Rey).

the Tie fighter moment is OK but short... So again nothing memorable IMO... As for the Saber fight....

I absolutely did enjoy her snow saber fight.

Blah.... Perhaps I could have enjoyed it Had Finn not given Kylo more completion then he should have... I understand toying with someone but Finn got a shot in. No Jedi powers whatsoever FINN!

Then we have the duel which proceeds to tell me nothing other then I don't have nothing to worry about for the rest of the series as the villain sucks at saber duels and force powers and the Hero is the greatest most natural Jedi ever... Add to the fact that the saber duel took place in the back of my house I again go back to the fact that this whole film felt like Cosplay Star Wars.

I appreciate that they went back to the more simple saber duel where emotion is the purpose of the fight.. But Jye had like one stab move she did over and over. It just was not interesting or exciting. I also appreciate the use of real sets but it felt like Planet earth. Not a Galaxy far far away. RO did a perfect job of real environments that still felt otherworldly.

Other then the snow this duel had nothing that stood out. Second worst Saber duel in the series behind Clone Wars Anakin / obi Wan vs Dooku... I put Vader vs Obi Wan above it because of Vader;s sheer badassness and the environment was much cooler.

I can't remember if you were here for our conversations a few months back but as much as I loved TFA when it came out (and definitely still enjoy it, it's just such an easy to watch film) Rogue One just killed it as "canon" for me. After everything the heroes went through in RO I felt the Saga absolutely demanded a cheesy, happy feel good ending. ROTJ gave us that, despite any of its other shortcomings. And so unless TLJ totally validates the continuation of the "remnants of the Empire" I'll always consider ROTJ to be the final curtain call of the Saga.

ROTS > TFA

TPM > TFA

*looks left and right*

AOTC > TFA

I think I am starting to agree with you... I am watching AOTC right now and after letting my Hate go I find that I am somewhat enjoying it. That and I have not watched it in probably 5 or more years.

Whoa, jye. We're clear of the prequels.

I did not see TFA in 3D so I can't speak to that but it should hold up in 2D and while it's good... It's not great.

As for Rey... How can she suffer a defeat unless she has to fight the entire New Order? I mean everything we know about her from TFA tells me that not even Vader in his Prime could take her on :lol And in this one it looks like she might get some extra training from Luke...

Look out!!!

Only thing that would be cool is if somehow she turns to the Dark Side and Kylo ends up being the only hope :lol

Seriously though I hope they improve the characters in the second film and give some good quality answers to why things are the way they are and not just that she is a Disney Princess and that Luke's Saber just show up in an Alien Bar.... Just because.

I remember that... It was one of my issues well before RO... After TFA I was like... Well all that in ANH to Jedi was for nothing :lol

I watched these videos the other day and they gave me a new way to look at the PT... It's why I am watching them again right now.. Still flawed but I like looking at them through this fans eyes and don't disagree with a lot he has to say... Granted he is always positive about his reviews but it's fun stuff.

I don't know if Lucas had a lot of this stuff in mind but like I said it's fun to watch through his eyes..

I like how he stresses that Obi Wan and the Jedi order failed Anakin , which I always felt, but he stresses Obi Wan's complete ineptitude as teacher and how he may have been Jealous of Anakin. How Anakin's behavior in TCW has more to do with his never being around girls as opposed to Bad acting (happy coincidence)

Anyways it's fun to watch even if you don't agree. I don think he at least points out some of the very cool small bits that the PT offers.

Have we sunk so low in our attempt to be counter culture what we are actually going to say AOTC > TFA.....

Come now guys , what were you smoking before posting that load of silly words.

The Di Fabio in me knows Disney bought Lucas out to make load and loads of cash , homogenizing as much as possible to please as many as possible....

The Khev in me believes that in there, is a sliver of creative power that can ignite a flame of story telling which may prove to be worthy of canon.

The Wor Gar in me just wants to watch it all burn.....

And the Clown in me just wants to talk about Batman.....

Hmmmm....

Have to sleep on this:

TFA good acting and sets but weak action.
PT horrible acting and bluescreen but memorable action and music.

I don't know...The Falcon escape and the snow fight are just as memorable as anything from the PT.

ROTS saver duel just went on for way too long over really bad lave droids. :yuck

Wait...wait....did you just say that you are currently enjoying AOTC?!

Hmmmm....

Wait...wait....did you just say that you are currently enjoying AOTC?!

No one should say this. I resolved myself never to watch it again. I am ok with ROTS....but there is no need or excuse to watch AOTC again.....you can skip it entirely and you will not miss anything.

You can fill in what happens without being subjected to that mess of dialogue, bad cgi and terrible acting.
