And what does that have to do with comparing the policies of Bill Clinton to JFK and LBJ, or comparing Nixon to Bush or Reagan? We're talking about rightward drift of the U.S., why you want to change the subject?

Because the poster boy for the democratic party doesn't even fit their own mold anymore. The Democratic party has changed over the years to become even more leftist. Nixon in retrospect has been viewed as being more democratic or centrist in his domestic policies, and supported many of LBJ's (including expanding the Great Society domestic programs) policies and also created the EPA. Clinton and JFK aren't similar in their policies either. I don't want to even talk about Bush because he is just off the map in pure stupidity and I don't support either him or his policies.

As I said, both parties have shifted pretty far to the right of where they historically have been. Obama is the beginning of the correction process.

I think Nixon and LBJ are good references as to where the two major parties belong, idealogy- and policy-wise

Where did you come up with this? The examples shown illustrate how the parties have become more leftist. If the democratic party espoused Kennedy's philosophy, then I would be all for that. Social programs have only gotten bigger and bigger over the years, and that is a democratic ideal. Even Republicans have jumped on that band wagon, which has caused a paradigm shift in the political world. Obama's ideas only want to push those even further, which is in itself not a policy correction as you suggest.

Notice how there are hardly any Pro-Obama political threads on the SSF forum? In the effort of fairness, let me post these pictures from Obama's rally in Red-State Colorado. Another 100,000+ people showing up to see the "socialist":

Ah, that feels better :D

I can think of another eloquent person who gave inspiring speeches to the masses and rallied a group of people that thought they should blame their troubles on a group of wealthy individuals.

Just Kidding

Oh come off of it. This country has gotten to be waaaaay too far to the right over the last sixty years or so, which is why the economy is blowing up right now just like it did in the late 1920s and mid 1850s. We're long overdue for a correction away from unchecked laissez-faire market economics and excessive deregulation, which simply are unsustainable. Check your history books.

Obama is not going to turn the U.S. into another Sweden even if he wanted to, which he does not.

We have an extreme right-wing party and a centrist party ascendant here when we need a center-right and a center-left to have a productive governmental dialogue.

How will we be more centered when it appears we will have an extremely leftist president who believes in mainly socialistic policies, a leftist congress, and a supreme court leaning more liberal in addition to two more supreme court seats opening where two additional liberal judges will be placed? Sounds pretty left and liberal to me.

Double-standards are awesome.

If this were Obama hanging in effigy the roof would blow off the world:

Thats wrong beyond wrong. All that does is preach violence and hate much like Mesa post above even if he labels JOKE in it. Honestly thats whats wrong with talking politics is that too many cannot talk about the issues and have to get into the hate. Thats whats caused me to go off a few times because you get called a few names or told you don't know ^^^^.

This person should have their ass beat plain and simple. I find it totally disgusting that this was done.

With as far to the right as we've been the last several years it will balance out. :lol

He does not believe in mainly socialistic policies. Thats just so far from the truth its not even funny. They take the words and twist them which is all they have when at least in the polls people are showing they support what he's trying to do.

No plan is perfect but for me Obama just offers the most help the the MC and LC. People are going to take advantage of his plans but thats just something you have to accept, and is no worse IMO than what the ritch have done finding loop holes to only get more wealthy without paying/doing their fair share.

I used "Just kidding" as a qualifier about a joke how Republicans have no sense of humor. I admit now I should never have used the "just kidding" qualifier. I was wrong and I admit it.

Figured the josh would have something to say with my freedom of speech.

What I stated was merely an observation based upon similarities. Where's the hate in that?

Oy vey. Similarities? The ONLY similarity is they attract large crowds. I guess Palin also falls into that category...hmm...Family Guy may have had something.

And this is an absolutely ludicrous resolution to the country's problems.

Thanks to a Barbara West interview that Joe Biden couldn't handle, this was a quote from Carl Marx

"From each according to their abilities, To each according to their needs."

How is that not the same as "redistribution of wealth?"

I interpret both statements as "Take from those that work for it and give to those who don't."

dictionary.com said:
1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved.

2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

Oh and if similarities are important, maybe I should search for a man who left his dying wife for a rich beer heiress to compare McCain to...

Use of Propaganda, the radio, posters and film shows, was groundbreaking. It captured the imagination of a disillusioned population and gave them fresh hope. An image had been created of a powerful party with strong leadership. A party that would not allow trivialities to prevent progress. Hitler and his National Socialist movement offered something for everyone: and this at a time when German politicians were failing to control the economy or the radical elements of the left was a potent and powerful political image bound to win support.

Again, I'm not saying Obama is Hitler, I'm just noting the similarities.

There are a lot of disillusioned Americans pissed off at the rich banks and wall street execs and CEO's. Obama is promising us change and to bring us out of our current economic slump, at the expense of small business owners and those who work hard for their money, in addition to the few crooked unethical super-rich businessmen.

Sounds good to me. I can only hope you're right... er correct. :D :chew
