If Sauron isn't truly 1/4 scale, and just a huge Premium Format and not four feet tall (if the listed height of Sauron in some of the film promotional material is to be believed at 14 feet tall, the Premium Format would top out at 42 inches) we could still see Sauron debut soon for a release early next year, and then a Ringwraith on Steed debut at SDCC with a release of late next year for the oversized/expensive nature of the RWOS.

If they run with the idea that he is 10 feet tall, the premium format would only be about 30 inches, so he wouldn't necessarily break the bank, and be more in line with a regular Premium Format offering.

Jerry says they want to save it for an official announcement...but who's to say that announcemenet is ANYTIME soon.

The only reason I think it will be sooner than Comic-Con is I don't recall Jerry showing pices of the KOTD/Aragorn art months before that piece came out. Thats if my memory serves me right. :lol

That does make good sense. Fact of the matter is though, before Jerry posted the little teasers, he said he literally just finished the thing. The man may just love to show us what he just finished, without it necessarily coinciding with an official announcement. But hey, this is all just speculation so who's to say what the real answer is.

In any case, I do await any bit of information on the PF, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for anything anytime soon.

OK guys.........
I am going to start a new LOTR Sauron Art/Sideshow thread. The older one is too long now, and I'll be posting final pics of the Sauron art within a few minutes!

Just saw your print. Very impressive!!!

Quick question: Will the PF have the same "pose" as the Sauron in the print? My main concern is the one leg stepping up onto the skull.

While it looks ok in the print, I'm not liking it for the statue's pose.

Two dimensional poses are better explained and understood in three dimensions, like a sculpt. This comes down to taste and opinion, of course : ) I believe SS will be basing the pose upon my art, but as I said, it will make sense once you see it ........

The SSW version is 23 1/4" tall and is based on Sauron being 11' 8" tall, including the helm. If SS goes with the same assumption as Weta concerning Sauron's height the PF will be approx. 35" tall.

I don't know, i'm with Josh, I think we'll see it previewed sometime around now with it also being shown at Comic-Con.

You never know, even though they said, 2012, SS could quite easily have bumped him up the list.

It's just with Jerry saying we would see it this week, but he couldn't show it because SS wanted to show it officially, to me that says preview.

You could be right, but none of this lines up with what SS was saying just three month's ago :

Question :Is there any possibility of a Sauron Premium Format and/or a Saruman? I was unfortunate enough to miss all of your previous Sauron products because I just recently discovered Sideshow.

Answer :Yup. Saruman and Sauron have just officially graduated from the candidate list to the confirmed, planned, product line-up for 2012. We’ll be collaborating with Jerry Vanderstelt on Sauron, who may or may not end up “officially” in the PF classification, but will be BIG.

This base might be a full 2ft in diameter if all those skulls, Armor and weapons are included...

A light built into the base would really highlight the lava. This sculpt is going to be EPIC!

Woodsy, Thanks for the dimensions. 35" doesn't seem too much larger height-wise than some of the other Premium format figures, but if the artwork is any indication, I would think that the base will be considerably larger than what we've seen for other Premium Format offerings. If he is 35" tall, I don't see this being the $1000.00 that some people have suggested, but I could certainly see this being $500.00 before shipping.

I wouldn't rule out that Sauron is pre-ordered like any other PF for the lord of the rings line, but the RWOS gets a debut at a keynote event like San Diego. Maybe I am crazy in thinking that, but we tend to pre-order the next Premium Format when the newest one ships, and Gollum is right around the corner. Maybe my anecdotal evidence is wrong though!

Gollum is scheduled for a May release which more than likely means we'll see him in late June. I suspect we will see our third PF pre-order [of the last 9 month's] during , or in the weeks preceding SDCC, and it will be the RWOS. Seeing as we average approx. two PF's per year, I don't see us getting anything other than Sauron and Saruman in 2012, as SS has already stated. As to the order in which these two are released I can't say, though I think it quite possible we will see one early in 2012 [Jan.-Mar.] and the other as a SDCC release. :)

Either way, we have some really cool stuff in the pipeline coming out soon, and having some of the hints that we have really drum up the excitement around here.

With Sauron, Saruman and Ringwraith on Steed all on the way (or at least heavily suggested) in 2012, 2013 could be a great year for a return to some of the good guys!

I agree, C-Word. :D
Truly sorry. Already started :duff on this fine Friday. Anyway, it appears that my statue expenditures are pretty much covered for the next two years. I'm sure the Sauron and Ringwraith pieces will be pretty pricey, yet worth every cent. I also have faith that some year soon they will finally get off their ***** and give us fans a Gimli PF!

hoy crap, i don't know if that's good news or bad news

good: cause i WANT that piece
bad: cost of it is not going to be low :(

but hopefully they will have a flex pay available for this one as well :)

That goes without saying. It will feature Flex Pay and it will be used by many. However, since you've got well over a year before you have to pay for it....put some money aside each and every month and you won't have to worry about how to pay for it when the time comes. :lecture

that's the plan :)
really hope this thing is well done, can't wait to see how it turns out :clap
