However much I like the brilliant artwork, I think he will look better with both legs on the ground and holding up both the mace and the ring.

Personally, I'm glad Jerry didn't go with an obvious pose. It would have been the easiest route for him to take as it would have required little or no thought....and not much in the way of originality either. The essence of Sauron is so powerful it does not require such an obvious or overstated pose to reflect his true character, and Jerry has managed to capture all of Sauron's power, malice, and cruelty without stating the obvious......and that is the sign of a true artist. :lecture

Believe me, this sculpt is going to be sweet; just you wait!
For now, I'm posting actual production images of this Sauron art. I believe some of the "earlies" did not have final details, like caked ( and baked ) on mud on Sauron's foot armour, loin chain, etc.
So here are a few shots of detail :

This shot below makes me think that even the very ground Sauron is standing on cannot endure radiating evil from this Fallen One!

And poor Henery! He should have practiced his swordsmanship a bit more before coming to THIS place!

hopefully SS doesn't make the sculpt to thin like the Weta piece. That's my biggest gripe about that one. I know his helm has that skinny look, but it doesn't mean they should make his whole body that way :monkey1

The SSW version 1/6 scale Sauron is 23 1/4" tall. A 1/4 scale SS version should be about an inch short of 3 ft.

Hopefully the base will incorporate some of the Numenorean and Elven remains...........
Nearly 3 feet!! :horror
This thing will have to go in the center of the dining table.
Not sure I can still eat with dismembered men and elves on the table. :lol

That's a shame, especially coming from Weta. Their stuff ain't cheap.

Looking at the artwork, I was reminded of a few things I recall seeing in the movie...
The very detailed artwork on the surface of his helmet and armor will look unreal in 1:4.
Also, that chain mail garb that hangs down the front of his crotch.

This thing is gonna rock. :rock

Sideshow has mentioned this will be a centerpiece of the LOTR PF line. :lecture

Question : Regarding your upcoming Sauron piece in collaboration with Jerry Vanderstelt, I was wondering if you could comment officially on whether it will fall into the Premium Format category (even if not officially 1/4 scale), or if it will in fact be one of the first (if not the first) baddie in the new maquette line? This is easily my most anticipated piece, and I know everyone is eager to know more!

Answer : It’s going to be BIG. It will be done in approximately 1:4 scale, true to the Premium Format line. If all goes according to plan, this will be a major centerpiece for the LOTR line, a very singularly impressive statement piece.

Not sure I can still eat with dismembered men and elves on the table. :lol

I never thought of that...cut spare ribs out of your diet and you should be OK. :lol

I seem to remember Sideshow saying in the past (I think in regard to complexities that would be involved with Boromir and Gimli PFs) that doing real chainmail on that scale would be way too hard.

But ... I wonder if it might be possible for Sauron. His scale is a bit bigger than the usual PF (perhaps the links in his chainmail are a bit bigger than everybody else's, too) ... AND ... you would only need that small triangle in front of his ... ahem ... area.

I'm absolutely fine with it if they end up sculpting it, but it would be extra cool if it was real chainmail.

Just a thought.

Extra cool, and extra expensive. :lecture

Whatever SS does, the chainmail lioncloth is much longer on film ( like in my art ). Also the frontal torn cape that begins at Sauron's shoulder pauldrons will give it visual distinction as a sculpt, along with the longer lioncloth, but actual links, that would be incredible!

It really isn't....

And Sideshow's stuff isn't?!!

I suppose you could replace the word 'thin' with fit, trim, or slim :lol but any way you slice it, he should have more 'meat' on him.....and he does have chicken legs. :lecture
