I collect some of the Super Hero stuff like Iron Man to be honest, but Middle-earth is where my hearts at. For people that focus the other way I totally understand. However, I think that what The Lord of the Rings is and even The Hobbit no super hero movie could hope to be.

I agree with you, but i guess it is whatever floats your boat. I do like the look of the Marvel stuff though and the starwars statues are pretty cool.

I also collect a lot. Bruce Lee, LOTR, Predator, Star Wars. I like everything but occasionally a piece (or two) will come along and just blow your socks off and I think both the Dark Rider and Sauron are those pieces.

In that situation money is no object really.

I already know that if they get the QC right and you have either of these pieces in your collection the instant reaction of a non collector - Lord of The Rings fan or not - is going to be.............

"Holy S##t that's awesome"

Predate LOTR... some but not many as the big superhero boom was in the 60's.

The Hobbit was published in 1937.... Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 which was published in 1938.

So Gandalf and Bilbo Baggins have been around longer.

Snap! :lecture :lol

I kind of collect everything as well since I have a very wide selection of media i like. LotR, Star Wars, Video Games, DC, Marvel, Disney, Anime... the odd piece here and there....

I collect movies I really love and things I remember growing up.

Star Wars, LotR, Nolans Dark Knight Trilogy and the occasional horror PF (Freddy, Jason etc).

But this and the Dark Rider will be the centerpiece of my collection.

It's all purely subjective. I'm glad we do have choices.
There's so much good collectibles out there for us to choose from, I can't even get all I want, but I very much enjoy the few that I have.

I'll tell you what though... I'd love to buy a Bilbo with an arc reactor in his chest, a batarang on his belt, and a lightsaber in his hand, in a "Come get some!" dynamic pose.

Now that would be awesome! :rock

Then that would be the ONLY piece I would need in my collection as it would cover just about EVERYTHING! :hi5:

Wait, could we throw a bullwhip in his other hand that's not holding the lightsaber...then it's all covered! :wink1:

I agree having all these choices is a darn good thing IMO. Its why I want a little of what I like in my collection. I'd like to get it back to being more Middle-earth heavy but I want some of each represented.

Good choice of an mix there :hi5:

if i am forced to pick, i will choose the rider simply because of the 500 es and the extra ex switchout part, it has some potential to hold its original value years down the road after being soldout.

You're really think that sword will make a big difference ? If it looks bad, I think it will destroy the ex value even with a low es.

The biggest bummer is that Sauron will hit the credit card the same month as all of my Comic Con spending.

The Dark Rider seems like a pretty safe piece. You could make this comment about anything, but I don't see cause for concern with this guy.

You missed the point I was making. I'm not going to point it out either because guitarmandan, the user I was responding to, obviously did understand it.

I think he is better value BUT........

1) The Dark Rider is more iconic to me as a movie representation.
2) The Dark Rider doesn't pose the same display problems , it's still massive but manageable IMO
3) The paint job has potential for disaster on Sauron

Overall I think a lot of people are going through the same problem, me included. I have the Rider on order but I may bite on Sauron since at 1500 he most likely will sell out and fetch crazy prices afterwards.

The Dark Rider could go either way but will probably be available.

Ultimately , buy the one you love, not the one that's better value.

I think you're right about dark rider still be available later . If sauron looks incredible like the prop, it will disappear quickly even with a 1500es. He's like a LSF for 900$. Will be hard to get one cheap in couple of years mib. Instead of rider, EX or not will be probably same price or even cheaper without the sword.

And yeah rider is more iconic. Totally agree. I want to get both but don't have the cash now . Just want to be strategic and get the one who will sell more quickly. Don't want to spend 2k later on something a missed.

In that case I'd probably go Sauron. The Dark Rider regular will still be available I'd say. Saying that Sauron could well be available also but will sell out quicker IMO.

The exclusive for the DR (even though I personally bought the exclusive), aint all that flash really. It's not a must have.

I'm not really big on exclusives but if it's the same price then it's a no brainer.

The reg DR is open ES , and will keep the ex in stock for awhile. Like you said, the sword doesn't look like it adds much to the piece. The only reason why I will get the ex eventually is because of an ES on it.

I'm not too worried about Sauron selling out even it it comes out flawless. Regardless of the quality, 1500 pieces at $900.00 ea. is not going to fly off the shelves. I'm not going to complain about the ES though, because the fact that they made so many is probably the main reason that this guy doesn't have the LSF price tag. Sideshow knows that it'll sell out eventually and they stand to profit much more by selling 1500 at $900.00 ea. than if they sold 200 at $2000.00 ea. As far as I'm concerned it's a win - win.:yess:

:exactly::goodpost:

There is no denying that compared to some other pieces this seems to be amazing value.
