If you put lava reflections on any piece for best effect you better display him like the lava effect is asking for it...

You're so full of it when you make comments like that. Fact is the paint job came out just fine and I've seen lots of people who like it. I like it because the paint job came out great. If it hadn't I would have no issue saying as such. The only denial is with you thinking your opinion is fact. As far as Jerry reprinting his you forget to mention he said he thought the paint job was awesome and doing so because he wanted to.

As an artist if you change something its to improve it...only fanatics are full of it Josh...cant see beyond the love of something...I think JV was just being nice with that comment...thats funny most people I know that have repainted something usually did it to improve it...just like repainting a house or car or statue...again Denial by you Josh..."Its my opinion" covers all for you...thats all you got...I never said the piece was bad, I never said the paint was terrible, only thing I said that the paint was specific to a very particular setting and for best effect should be displayed as such... I think I made it better...many thought so too...but I will not become a fanatic even though I love LOTR as much as the rest of the world...Love is blind Josh

That's not true at all. You may improve it for yourself but that's it. Period end of story. Then I guess there are a lot of people who are full of it as I've seen lots of people who love this piece. :lol well, I can assure you he's not just saying that.

Where am I in denial? :lol If you actually knew what you were talking about I'd actually be offended. I haven't once just said my opinion as my reason. I stated in my review why I thought it. I think the metal looks like metal, I love the aging of the items laying on the base, the color of the lava coming out of the cracks, and I love how in natural light or in the light of my collection room the reflection effect that you get. It denial to not admit the paint job is damn good and there are plenty of people who like it.

Ok if Sideshow decided to paint Sauron just like this photo with the shaded parts completely dark?... How would you display him?...What is the best way to display him?...or are you happy with any lighting...?...welcome to art class...or photography class...colored reflection of light (both light and dark shadows )for best effect should be displayed as such...again put a nice sunny blued skied day behind JVs sauron in that painting and tell me how you like it...looks great huh...

...If Sideshow came out with that exact paint job of Gandalf showing the glow on one side and the shadows on the other how many would say I love that paint job...How would you display it?...What helps Sauron is the fact hes in full armour...I will admit that...do that paint job on any body else's skin see what reaction you would get...Sauron Lava effect paint job was also more cost effective than if it had the metal armour with dirtied scrolling...

He'd look awesome. That's not what I've said at any point. If display him the same way I am now. Find a spot big enough and let the piece do all the talking. Mordor ain't a cheery place so that wouldn't make sense. However, this statue can look good when having had photos taken outside. I kind of know that from experience.

Cut out JVs Sauron out of the painting and put him in a light background then put him in a dark background and tell me they look just as good no matter what. Put this Sauron in the sun vs a darker setting and tell me it's all the same. This specific paint job from a specific point of view namely the dark Mordor setting of JVs artwork should be displayed the same way for the best effect possible. To deny that means that one is lacking in taste or just doesn't know photography or art or just doesn't care and is happy with whatever. To say that I like it because it's my opinion and not offer any facts or reasons why fits in the above category. For some it might be that they are even do not want to offend the statue company or artist. Denial.

I assume you mean by JV s artwork is the painting that the statue is based on? I really didn't thought of that & Im evaluating the statue only without relating it to that painting & it work fine for me under normal lighting (didnt try to display it under low light) if that makes me tasteless & photography noob then you are right :p

Anyone can display this any way they want too...but for best effect....just saying...not all have that set up...even me...again..no one is saying the piece stinks...certain light is whats best for it...just trying to show you something..thats all..but for some its tough to understand....

I can own this piece for 650 total. I am passing because of the paint job. The armor paint is lazy and completely lacks depth. SS can do better, they have done better. Adolfo hit his out of the park. SS is trying new paint approaches likely due to boredom and good for them for trying it out but it doesn't look as good as it could.

Edit: I'm part of a few groups on FB statue or LOTR collector groups. They've seen some of your pics with the repaint you did. I know I saw posts that said you ruined the statue.

Can you link to these posts on FB?

Thank you for shedding light on something that's so tough to understand. :lol :lol

I assume you are referring to my post. Painting armor all silver is what we did as 8 year olds painting D&D figs back in the 80s Josh. If you can't see or admit this then you really are clueless.

I was talking about the post before yours. You replied as I was typing mine. So see what happens when you assume. :lol Well, I and many others like the way the armor was done. You can either deal with that or you can't. I don't care either way. I love how a couple of you are good at making petty comments or name calling while you try to act "above" others. It's pretty funny. Remember what you said you think about my opinion at statue forum the other day. Trust me the feeling is mutual.

Love is blind Josh

I wouldn't know. :)

No, I don't think he did. I've even told him that I find what he's doing impressive. I don't put on a face here on the board.

If you speak your mind you put a face up Josh. Only neutral comments have no face....denial.
