Re: Sauron Legendary Scale Figure

My first take on the griping about LSF pricing was that people were not understanding the laws of the universe, namely the square-cube law. People were talking about LSF being 2x the size of a PF but they were measuring this in linear height not volume. The square-cube law states that volumes increases faster than area when something gets bigger so you cannot just say that 2x the height of a PF should be 2x the price due to a "materials" included argument. There should be more volume to these pieces which means more polystone, more paint, etc. Now I don't know if this is true with the wraith PF vs. Sauron LSF though.

I actually agree with your square cube argument. But the thing about LSFs is that they're not actually twice the height of PFs. They're mostly around three feet tall. And PFs are generally around two feet tall. And going by the LSF specs, they seem mostly to be in the 25-35 pound range. Most of my PFs are in the 15 pound range. That's where I was getting the "double" estimate.

(Though, admittedly, math has never been my strong suit! If it was, then I wouldn't be in nearly as much credit card debt over these collectibles as I am!)

Theoretically with LSF you are also getting better quality, the new skin texturing on Obi-Wan for example. Presumably we are getting real armoring details with Sauron. So LSF isn't just bigger it is also better. In theory. Sideshow's QC is questionable and taking a shot at a 250 dollar statue is a different thing than a 2000 dollar statue. But the open ES and no EX means replacements are easy to get.

From your lips to the ears of the Collectible Gods! Let's hope, man.

Now if they said that each of these would all be individually hand finished at Sideshow (and not in a Chinese factory) then I'd reverse positions pretty quickly. To me, that would be worth $2K. (Though maybe they have said this and I just missed it. Always possible.)

But I also think you are correct in your assessment. Many modern collectors see completism as the sign of a super fan. As well, having the most expensive collection can be a badge of honor. Maybe they are targeting the Neimann Marcus market, the full size x-wing in the front yard buyer, the guy or gal that doesn't care about price but wants to buy prestige. And of course, they are dragging us aspirationals along for the ride, but that's our fault.

When looking at these things, the Sauron and impending Indy LSF, I can't help but think of the sunk opportunity costs with what other collectibles I could buy for 4000 dollars. I have too many hobbies/interests.

You and me both, brother! You and me both. :ohbfrank:

Sooo excited about this bad boy. :rock

Gonna be mine no matter how long it takes. :yess:
Just hope we see him at SDCC...

Re: Sauron Legendary Scale Figure

Besides the shipping fees, the duty fees would be scary to think about to Canada. I wonder how I can pull off getting this if I want it enough.

It's a PF, it's a PF :yess:

Yay! Premium format with a decent price line is doable. glad its not a LSF anymore

I wouldn't go busting out the champagne yet. Just because a production video has PF in the title doesn't mean a whole lot. Proof reading doesn't always seem to be Sideshow's best attribute - just look at all the errors that have occured with the info in the production peeks before a pre-order. Sauron has been classified as an LSF in a couple other places.
Believe me, I'm hoping this comes in as a PF. I'm just not betting on it.

Re: Sauron Legendary Scale Figure

If it's a PF though, what's the scale? 1/4?

IF it's that scale, it's still going to be huge. Doesn't matter what they label it, it's going to be expensive because of ths size.
