How much cheaper is direct? Shipping is part of that as it costs much more to send wrapped.

I haven't gotten a quote for it yet, but it will be somewhere between $40 and $80 depending on if he gives me a deal again. That company, Parker Jordan, works with Warner Bros, where I work a lot, so he gives employees a nice discount but usually it's for WB cels or prints bought from their art sales on the lot. He is wrapping a large "Kissing the Knight" Jim Lee print for me for $41 so we'll see. If he is too pricey a local place quoted me about $40 too for that size of a gallery wrap.

With getting stuffed wrapped and framed you are paying for 3 shipping costs. The print has to get shipped to the place doing it, then usually goes back to the place you bought it, then it goes out to you. Same deal is happening with the sideshow print frames. Luckily Parker Jordan and Sideshow are very close to eachother so you really are mostly paying for the framing cost.

Yea, that is a shame about the fees. That is eBay and their new Global ship program. It ends up costing buyers a lot more money, but does offer the seller extra protection to get more to sell international so it is a trade off.

I'm just hoping that is my custom fees payed off, no point bitching, already it's dispatched so should have it in 10 days to 2 weeks. Wanted to know, if I ordered a Megatron around may time, could custom fees go through the roof? Considering its 3 boxes

They should mark the packages of 1 of 3 so they don't charge you customs fees for each box.Sideshow did that recently for my Vader bust which came in two boxes.

It baffles me that Sauron is still available... an amazing statue that every LOTR fan should own! Definitely a favourite in my collection! :lecture

High ES at 1500, many did not like the Lava glow paint and $900 price tag. Add that plus LOTR is not what it used to be in regards to sales of Middle Earth film statues. For ex. Weta has only sold out a couple of items from their recent Hobbit ME statue lines... This went on sale over 2 yrs ago in 2012 and first shipped in Sept 2013. Many that already have the 2 ft tall Weta version are happy with it and don't need the SS version is another reason. If the Weta version didn't exist this woulda sold out already

The paint in general on this is really poor. The armour is very flat looking, too clean, the lava glow looks more like rust or blood or poo and the reflections don't make sense on parts of it. On mine it has a heavy reflection on the mouth area and nothing on the chest right by it. It looks great on the website but on mine in person it's not good at all. It's a great statue but it needs a repaint.

Poo! :rotfl

Agreed. I still love mine, but some of the lava-painted parts make no sense. The upper chest has no lava effect but his chin does, like you said, and there's this piece of armor on his lower chest that sticks out and has the lava paint on top of it. On top of it. WTF? Is the lava hovering over him or something?!

I liked the overall lava effect when I first received mine, but now I realize it isn't as great as I thought.

Count me among those perfectly happy with the SSW one as well, which also has some paint issues but is a pose I greatly prefer.

There is not just one light source so it could have reflections on different areas with varying degrees of glow. Just look at the original artwork.

My Sauron PF arrived today damaged and I am returning it. I have to admit I absolutely loved the statue but HATED the paint job. The SSC pics make the armor look almost like silver metal but the actual paint job is a dull grey and looks more like plastic. I thought the lava glow effect also really took away from the look of the statue. Overall I am beyond disappointed and will not be ordering a replacement.

In the future I will be a lot more careful and take the SSC pics with a grain of salt. More and more these days they don't seem to even come close to matching on some pieces. I will wait till I see actual pics from real owners before I purchase. I know this will end up costing me more on some items but I'd rather pay more than to be so disappointed. Overall I have been extremely pleased with almost all of my SSC statues but I have seen enough to make me even more cautious than before.

Sorry to hear that, the paint jobs have been hit and miss with this one. Some get decent ones, some get rather poor examples(my 1st base was horrible). Seems to be the norm from SS these days as you said. Just send them back if you are not happy, they pay so you don't worry about losing money.

I'm curious how yours was damaged. The one I got for Christmas was also damaged and I'll be exchanging it for another, though I feel the same way as you on Sideshow. My statue had the horn-like curl on the left shoulder piece broken off, the side pieces on the helmet on the base were both broken off and the hole for the left foot wasn't drilled in the right place so he doesn't fit on the base properly.

The helmet of the skull on the base... the one near the shield was broken off in two places. The helmet is so exposed and delicate I don't see how any of these make it in one piece after shipping. I was so worried that all of those spikes on Sauron might get damaged in shipping and it ended up being the base that didn't make it in one piece... figures.

yea, this is one fragile ass piece. I would be scared to ship it again when the day comes to sell.

It took 3 replacements before I got an unbroken base.

That's where the break is on mine. It's a clean break and I could glue it back together but for $900 I shouldn't have to.
