I bought an ape appliance years ago. It was one of a series of sets that came out. It was made out of foam and you needed to cut it to fit your face properly. Then you had to paint/apply make up to it and blend it in. There was no hair included. I wonder if i still have it boxed away after all these decades? be interesting if i do to see if I can ressurrect it.

That looks to be a Don Post mask that has been refurbished. It was a mask I wore at MANY a Star Trek convention in the Bay Area in the mid to late seventies.

Is it really worth that much? I should have kept mine.

I looked at this mask auction again and if you look real carefully, it looks like the section at the bridge of the nose has been separated from the brow section of the mask... that is why the nose section looks so elongated. I doubt that this mask is actually wearable.

Last night I started working on Cornelius's Escape suit. I hope it comes out ok. No photos, though. It still looks a mess.

I've always had a soft spot for Uhura.
I think those Tricorders come out in October. They look to be very cool, and if they're anything like the communicators they should be loads of fun. Did you get the exclusive? I think it comes with an extra compartment, and a medical scanner/device.

Yeah, my son has quite the chore ahead of him... educating his ADS generation (who have been weaned on Transformers and Speed Racer) on the slower paced world of Planet of the Apes.

You never know, PZ...maybe our progeny will be the ones to take up the torch and do the original films some justice...perhaps a real sequel with some teeth and originality. One can dream, can't they?

My brother, who is always on the look out for Ape pictures for me sent me this picture taken at the Fox Ranch back in early 1976.

This ship doesn't look, to me at least, to be the same spaceship used in Escape and the TV series. It looks much too big for that.

Any thoughts?

On the Apemania front...I have decided to also purchase a set of unpainted appliances. I have a basic formula for the paints, and I'm waiting to hear back from Apemania so they can tally the final $$ figure. This set of unpainted appliances should come quicker than the refurbished pullover one, and give me something to play with.

The ship they hauled out of the water in Escape looks different to me than this ship. I maybe wrong, but this ship looks bigger to me than that. The one they used for Escape different because it had a side door to escort the apes out of the ship. I don't see that door in either the Taylor or Brent versions of the ship. Also the one used in Escape and the TV series doesn't have a hatch hole that the crew of the Icarus used to escape from or a hole for the sensor Dodge used to test the air in the first film.

If only the picture showed more of the ship, both the back and the top!
