What is everybody working on? I am working on another gorilla sculpt, and making minor adjustments to some of my other sculpts. I need to do a major adjustment for Galen's hair but I did manage to buy eye protection.

It's a beautiful day outside--75 degrees. Why am I slaving away at the saltmines? Oh yes...forgot. I have to pay for daycare. :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

PZ, did you ever get your painted Lawgiver?

Here's a photo of that scandalous interspecies kiss I had mentioned before. The expression of the gorilla to the right is so freakingly pornographic. (or is it me?)

I'm going to paint Angel's AWESOME Caesar Statue which arrived today... Any suggestions on paint?

Hasslein! I have been thinking about you!! I was starting to get worried!

Anyway, think "rock rock rock" when you paint. That's all. And put some Planet of the Apes on in the background for some mood music.

I left for the holidays, and didn't have internet access... Then it looked like the forum went to CHAOS... So I stayed away for a while... I can't believe all the sculpts you've done. Every one is such high quality... You're sculpting, making clothing, you're a true "Renaissance Woman!"

Good to see you back, Hasslein. I was wondering what you thought of that hottie, General Ursus by Hot Toys. Are you getting one?

Presenting background gorilla #3. This is how he looked before makeup. I didn't realize that his eyes were uneven. I thought it was a bad paint job. I guess it was an expression. I didn't really look that closely when I picked him out of the human pile. He's currently baking in the oven. I worked on him last night and got halfway through his hair. I combed out the rest of his hair this evening and as you can see, I used a little creative license.

I am putting reference and sculpt photo side by side so it's easy to compare. Do you guys think I should add more height to his hair?

He looks fantastic, but yeah he probably needs a little more hair on top. I kind of like the uneven eyes. Gives him a quizzical expression and a little extra personality!

Yeah, I'm bummed about the Ricardo Montalban news. He was great as Armando, as Khan, as one of the soldiers in the 1949 classic war film Battleground. I saw a nature documentary with him as the narrator a few years ago and really enjoyed just listening to his mellow, smooth voice.

I always thought Armando seemed a little too eager to see apes dominating and enslaving humanity. But I will definitely miss Ricardo Montalban.

Maybe because all he knew of ape society were Zira and Cornelius, who were an awesome couple.

Jess!! That is so cool. I was hoping that gorilla would get the treatment by someone. I think he'd look great in any garrison. I have a few other faves i can't wait to see if you get to.
And where is Angel. Hope he's back soon. I do so want to get a Caesar statue. (amongst other things)

Yes, I'll probably put the sideshow outfit on it though... Not loving the outfit... Just the opposite with the soldiers, the tunic is finally corrrect, but the head sculpt..Ugh....

But the cool thing is, the Ursus sculpt is freaking fantastic! Not really loving the hair, but the helmet will cover it...and thank God the helmet looks great!!

The soldiers need fine tuning, but not so much. Easily done...just trim the meat off the brow and paint the teeth...probably shave the hair and sculpt over that...it depends if it's really bad or not as far as the hair behaving. I will have to see.

Sorry I've been away, awfully busy working on a real live action movie script that has been handed to me. I'm hoping that this year will be a great year for me. I wanted to check in and say hello to friends, and say that I hope SS announces the day for the HT's Ape figures this Thursday in their Newsletter. With this new project, my stop motion is getting pushed to the back burner for a while. Hopefully I can make something of this big chance. Have a good night Ape Freaks, stay united!

Good luck with that, Sticks!! 2009 promises to be a very great year for everyone, no matter what.

I ordered a bunch of mini cards from moo.com, to hand out at Wondercon. It came today from the UK. I only ordered 200. Wonder if that will be enough? Anyway, it's just to promote the other forum I belong to, when I'm rigged out as Zira. (Haven't heard yet from the makeup crew except they did promise to finish the appliances this month)!!
