I'm not bothered by "white-washing", largely because it's a petty side issue for me. But it can get a bit tiring hearing white people determining what ought or ought not be considered racially offensive.

I'm half Chinese, and Australia is a very culturally diverse place - but our commercial TV is wall-to-wall white people. In the West, one's skin colour is for most white people something they rarely have to think about. For many non-whites, it's something that is thought about on a regular and frequent basis since childhood. Cut them some slack if some of them seem sensitive about it
