Is amazing they went through the trouble to give her a backstory to explain that really. Just goes to shows that they expect the backlash. Should have just casted the girl from pacific rim. Scarlet played the role like how she play every other role. Nothing new to the table.

She is nice to look at though.

Just came back from a screening. It is a serviceable adaptation. It is visually faithful to the source material with lots of homage to the anime with framing lifted straight out from it.

The overall plot is the same as the anime albeit simplified and easier to follow. As cool as the anime was, the plot can be choppy and overly ambitious and ambiguous at times.

There is some really bad cgi though, especially wide shots of the city and the major herself in some scenes. I also don't like how the fight scenes are edited, the typical quick cuts with dark lighting you can barely see anything.

All those complaining about the whitewashing, there is an in movie explanation for it. Basically the major was Japanese but they gave her a new shell (the body of Scarlett) and new memories hence why she is white.

Overall is a decent enough movie.

Thanks. The movie's a skip.

Doesn't make it palatable. I'm not even a GITS fan and it irritates me.

I'm happy Berserk is hardcore enough that it will never get a western adaption.

In all fairness, Goku and most saiyans look clearly Asian, as do most DB characters, some characters could pass as white, but not most.

And goku certainly inst one of them.

Japanese people don't care. Why should anyone else.
That's not a valid point though, Japanese people don't care much about anime in general, much less old anime.

Its like asking random people if they care about a miscast in a comicbook movie.

But in this case there's a narrative cause for the major to be in a white female body.

White washing or ANY kid of raceswap isnt valid, but theres no white washing here.

Only people who arent fans are seemingly bothered by this, because they are unaware the major's body is of a white female.

I think the characters looked more Asian in Dragon Ball, but as the animation style changed, I didn't think Goku looked Asian at all, especially when compared to characters that really look Asian.

I always did, Goku, kuririn, yamucha, chichi, Roshi, Vegeta, Raditz etc etc look asian to me, even in Z, early Z looks close to DB and you can tell theyre asian.

White characters even in DB look distinctively white. Like Bulma and her family.

While that's probably all true, it still bugs me. I'm not a fan of GITS whatsoever so I suppose I'm not in a position to complain since I'm not very familiar with the material... but I'm sick of Scar Jo frankly so that could be part of it too.

I guess I'm taking frustrations out on any Manga adaption after the turd fest Death Note looks like.

Death note looks pretty bad indeed.

The thing with GITS is that the whitewashing thing is counterintuitive, you know me and you know Ill jump on any raceswap or genderswap instantly, but im fine with it in this case because thats how the source is :lol

And as for Berserk, you know its a matter of time pliss.

GiTS is down, next is MGS, next is akira... and then....

Berserk can't even get a worthwhile Anime off the ground, let alone Live Action :lol Besides, if they adapted it to western audiences, they would have to neuter 90% of it for it to not get a NC17 rating.

Is she supposed to be White in the original Manga? Is it just the Anime movies? Or, is it just for this movie?

With the name Mokoto, and the way I've seen her look in the original movie, I just assumed she was supposed to be Japanese.

I dont know about the manga, its been a long time since I read it and I didnt like it very much. But in the 1995 movie shes japanese but she doesnt have her original body anymore obviously and her replacement body is of a white female.

In the sac series its questioned whether she is a woman at all or just has that body.

Alright, I see what you're saying.

Yeah, she's White. It's just at first glance with that type of hairdo, I always assumed she was Japanese. As you and Prince mentioned it comes with the territory since some nationalities aren't clear on some characters.

And speaking of Berserk, I don't know what Guts is.

I think he's White, but then also reminds of someone Asian/Japanese. :dunno

Geeze people, I thought it was well known that anime characters always have a strong tinge of Asian features, on account that they were created by Japanese artists who live in an almost purely monoethnic society :lol. Most of them just don't get out as much to see foreigners, let alone, interact with them.

I always assume a character is asian unless stated otherwise, and often if its not asian it will be stated.

As for motoko, this is her stock body, if there were any doubts.
