It's mostly a case of the movie being too smart for the audience and the audience not being familiar with the material. It wasn't easy to market, even though I thought the trailers were great. But then, I'm familiar with the original films and know what I'm getting. It's more difficult than Lucy, for instance, which has a very easy premise to market and requires little setup. I would think it would do well in Japan and China though.

There was absolutely nothing in this movie that was too smart for the average film goer.

They just saw teaser of ScarJo beating up some dude in the water while she was invisible and went "meh, I'll watch that Baby Boss movie instead." :lol

No more anime adaptations is a good thing.

While I agree with that, the only ones I'd even entertain are made by Japanese studios... but even the ones I've seen haven't been anything great.

Eastern media almost always gets butchered when it's westernized. I can't speak for this, but reviews haven't been kind.

I'm not against western adaptations of manga tho. Live action adaptation of an anime is "adaptation of an adaptation". The concept is as redundant and pointless as it gets.

I see what you're saying there. Oldboy was an adaption of a Manga and then the dog **** remake of the adaption was painful, to say the least.

Nah, The Matrix was much trippier and it did just fine. This GITS was just basically a female RoboCop with less brutal violence and nothing much to set it apart visually or thematically from what we've seen before. *I* quite liked it but upon reflection my 7/10 score was probably too generous. I'd probably give it a 6/10 but it will still live on as a fun background movie to watch from time to time. In some respects it's a failure but a respectable one nonetheless.

The last good east to west adaptation I saw was Edge of Tomorrow.

This isn't what I've heard, I haven't seen the movie, but everybody has said it was quite straight forward and actually the complete opposite to what the source material is about, and if it's pro-individuality instead of anti-individuality like the 1995 anime, then it's true.

It most likely did, but while it was retarded and unfounded, I'm grateful to those retards, because it discouraged the industry to attempt more anime in the future.

So hurray for dimwitted SJW! Hurray!

I have no doubt WB will still attempt Akira at the very least though.

I'm glad this bombed. No more anime adaptations is a good thing.
Tritto.

The Matrix was more visceral and had more typical action movie tropes. It was rich in thematic material and philosophy, but in a more straightforward expository fashion. Ghost in the Shell was a little more contemplative and slower paced than The Matrix. The Matrix also had a better hook for the marketing as well to get butts in seats to begin with.

I liked the movie, we're probably not getting a sequel. :lol

And no solo Black Widow movie for ScarJo.

I'm sorry this hurts you, Project. But it's for the greater good of animu movies.

Not really, now the cast of akira will be 90% african american actors. Problem solved
This only affects casting. Now the know... now they learn
