The only way of rebooting and recasting the series would work is if they ignored the Young Indy series and started a new series with a 'Younger Indy' set in the 1920's - with an actor who physically resembled a younger Harrison Ford and could at least match his performances. Tall order.

Despite my dislike for Indy 4, I'm gung ho for a fifth. Sure it could be bad, not a big deal if it is, but I think chances are it will improve from KotCS.

An Abner Ravenwood & Shangri-La story could be really great.

I think it'd be fun to see Indy fight in the snow.

If you'd been a James Bond fan when they recast in 69 you might have felt differently. Growing up with different people already playing the same character is going to skew your perception.

Very good point. I just happened to watch OMHSS last night and was thinking about how its a very underrated Bond movie and my guess is that its due to people not accepting Lazenby.

I actually think that's a great bond movie. It also showed a lot of character development with Bond getting married too. I'm just disappointed that George didn't take the role seriously. Before Craig, he was my 2nd fav.

I loved Ford as Indy 25 years ago.

It's time to retire either the actor or the franchise. I just wanted to see more adventures of Indiana Jones when he was younger and the world was a larger place. I'm not looking forward to a 70 year old Indy and his son.

I can't stomach LaBarf, either.

Well, several actors have played Indiana Jones so I don't think a recast would be that radical. :huh Though difficult no doubt.

I think Steven and George figure that Shia is the Ford of his generation?

I didn't think the Young Indy Chronicles were that well accepted. I'd like to get them on DVD to judge for myself.

The problem is, hitting an age from late 20's through 60's isn't gonna work as that's the bar that was set for Harrison's version of Indy. His earlier years were already chronicled by the tv series which also had his oldest incarnation. And TBH, I really don't want to see someone else playing Indy during Harrison's age gap.

This is why the "Son of Indy" route should be taken. It'll be hard at first, but I think most Indy fans will warm up to it over time and again, there are plenty of great stories to be told in a cold war setting. Maybe the hunt for Hitler's skull? The theft of the Atom Bomb plans, have Mutt crash in USSR while flying a Spy Plane, Cuba, etc - etc... There's plenty of potential.

They actually weren't that bad. Harrison, himself, even did an episode (Blue-something?).

I don't like the idea of the series continuing with Mutt. The character just wasn't that appealing to me. Dunno why. However I much prefer it to an Indy recast.

If I understand it correctly it was Lucas' stubborn attitude about the sci-fi/alien angle that kept Indy off the screen for so long. If you read between the lines it seems Ford and Spielberg gave in just to keep George happy and get the ball rolling. I think it's likely the next one will be a more collaborative, and hopefully more successful, venture.
I like KOTCS and I have nothing against aliens in the canon, but I also agree the storytelling is quite clumsy.

Mutt being Indy's son is my biggest complaint about the movie. I would have much preferred him to be someone else's son and Indy takes him under his wing or something.

as long as "son of indy" is treated as a totally separate franchise, i don't really care. they can even get uwe boll, or brett ratner, or paul ws anderson, or even resurrect ed wood from his grave to direct, for all i care.

just DON'T even THINK of ATTEMPTING to replace indiana jones. indiana jones can never be replaced. his son is not him. in fact, his son isn't even a pale shadow of him. so if lucas tries to turn shia into indy 2.0 i;m gonna firebomb skywalker ranch.

He wont. He'll love his son, but I'm sure he wouldnt want to take him on every adventure. In fact, i'd be better if someone kindnaps Mutt, and Indy goes to rescue him. I like Shia, and Mutt...but i'd rather have more Indy.

Mutt Williams played by Shia is a good sidekick for Indy, but if they want to progress with a Mutt Williams movie, then it needs to be set many years after KOTCS so we can see Mutt has matured into a believable adventurer. An older actor needs to replace Shia. I would say somebody in there mid thirties would be the best choice.
