Sometimes this Luke figure looks so... Unlike Luke. 3po thumbs look great!

Great looking 3PO, Tali.

Thanks, guys - he really is one of my faves, and I was all ready to really dislike it before it shipped (I get that way sometimes).:lol Also a LOT of fun to pose.

Talibane, I'm interested in how you removed the chocolate sauce...what kind of solvent/technique did you use?

Chocolate sauce removal was with rubbing/isopropyl alcohol and q-tip. I think there was a thread titled "rubbing alcohol is awesome!" or something that suggested it. Some comes off very easily, other parts you really need to scrub (and in the grooves it won't come out without sharper implement.)

Just go a little easy though - it is possible to remove the gold paint if you keep rubbing hard. Mine had a tiny area (fortunately back of leg) that isn't noticeable where the gold paint came off a little. Thankfully it blends into the spray weathering on the lower leg.

The isopropyl also leaves a white fogging when it dries that needs to be rubbed off. So rinse figure with a damp cloth once done and dry.

Just like R2's dome, the fig looks night-and-day different though - nice bright metallic look.:yess:

Talibane, how did you fix the thumbs? Heat and twist or did you disassemble the hands?

I pulled the hands apart. Galactiboy did a tutorial. You use a small pocket knife.

I was worried the thumbs might slowly return to the original position if just heated so I neatly cut them and reglued them. If you want extra strength, take a small drill bit and use fingers to drill small hole on each side and put in short section of paper clip then glue.

The good thing about doing the thumbs mod is you can also trim the wrist joint so the hands can also pivot for 3PO gestures (ie so they're more like standard 1/6 figure wrist joint.) For some reason, they can only spin on the stock figure.

I also added punched 1.5mm dia pieces of black plastic to the eyes (for more clear pupils) and painted his upper lip gold to make face look less rounded overall. The collarbone spikes mod (pretty easy - just pull them from neck ring and re-position) helps likeness too.

I am thinking of picking this guy do you recomend him?i was waiting for a hot toys but i think i might die waiting

Mine just came with broken pistons and thick brown paintdrops everywhere. What a mess. My retailer said sideshow would want to me to destroy him. Anyone destroyed theirs? How much pics do you need to send?

Like to see some pictures to what extend you guys destroyed him.

I really want to use him for parts like the thumbmod so i can experiment safely.

*Deleted, joke came out wrong*

So if you guys have pictures of your (multiple angles) perhaps i can photoshop a freshly broken 3po to them [emoji12]

Those are reasonable questions to ask except for your invitation to others to engage in fraud.

You should feel free to experiment on your current figure before destroying it.

Well that last part was more like a joke, but reading it back i guess one can read it wrong lol.

But that aside, does anyone know how this part goes? Hot toys usually just sends a replacement part without destroying anything. I have no experience with this.

Do i get the two parts or the full figure? Still have to hear from my retailer but would be cool if i'd got a heads up.

First thing to do is contact Sideshow with clear pics of the damage/issues - they'll tell you what their assessment is and advise you of your options.

If they agree that the damage and paint is unacceptable, they'll offer to replace the affected part/parts; or offer you compensation in the form of a gift voucher.

If you opt for the replacement part/parts, they'll ask you to destroy the part/parts and send them pics of the result.

If they don't agree that the damage and paint is unacceptable, they'll accept a return of the figure with shipping cost to be covered by you.

I'm pretty sure this is how it goes.

Thanks for the info. Never had this happen. I must say the pistons are very weak.

Not sure I understand the logic of HT doing a 3PO. I mean Medi does a re-issue of theirs and it's still widely available a couple years after release, Tamashii does a great (albeit very expensive metal) one, and it sits available and even at times heavily discounted for a couple of years, and Sideshow does pretty great one (overall, I'm not a fan of the face) and even the EX is still available months later.

There's been a quite a number of high-end 1/6 scale 3PO's gathering dust at retailers over the past several years (and even Hasbro just did a quite nice low-end 1/6 3PO) - so why would HT add to the pile? 3PO is VERY difficult to produce and clearly is more of a niche character in terms of appeal, not generating the kind of buying numbers that the Vaders and Hans or even stormies do.

I guess the answer could be "but it's Hot Toys" - but then you look at the middling likenesses that have dogged their SW line (the amazing Leia not withstanding) and you realize the 3PO likeness would likely be no better than Sideshow's middling sculpt.

Because Hot Toys.

It may be a while before they offer up the droids to give SS some time to unload what they have planned, but I'm sure they will get made. And be glorious.

But yea, I agree about the human likeness issue. All the star wars offerings have a passing resemblance to the actors. Ben being the worst. But the rest of what you get is quality stuff. SS has been getting better in this area. Jango's sculpt looks great. The new Indy is dead on Harrison Ford. Prolly the best. But then you have junk like Beetlejuice. :lol

If HT will produce one. It should be %99.9 accurate likeness with electroplating gold/silver finish. Then I will get one.

Talking about finish. Sideshows C-3PO color finish is sprayed on. I was so shocked how easily can be removed with my acrylic paint remover.
When I tried the remover on the hidden part of the neck. The metallic finish is just to weak and can be easily rub off.

I advised for those with sweaty hand to handle this figure with a gloves. Coz the paint will not stand a long period of repeated wear handling.

But before Leia, they were averaging about %69.9 likeness in their SW line.:dunno

That's what I'm basing my assumptions on.

I ordered this then pulled the plug....it is a damn fine C3-PO, but it's not close enough for me......i'm hoping HT will produce. I'm just tired of buyers remorse.

Much easier to just lower your expectations :lol

Well, it's always said as if there's no buyer's remorse with Hot Toys. I guess their sculpts/apps always look like real shrunken-down people, I just wish they looked more like the people they're supposed to represent.

I really think it's the ultra-realistic apps and sculpt detail that makes people give HT more of a free pass. I know that SSC's paint is still god-awful (the new Indy is pretty good though and closer to HT) and their sculpts are still a little less detailed than HT's, but I just find the SSC likenesses are better overall.

I'm not a HT or SSC fanboy - I've mocked both for their obvious fumbles (I've laughed at the SSC Yoda, and at the HT Yoda preview's inaccuracies) - I just expect these ultra expensive things to nail the character likeness and personality and deliver apps at least as good as your average DID military figure (that's quite a bit less to buy.)

As I always say, it's this choice of middling likeness and ultra-life-like apps (often counterweighted by the HT dead-stare) with HT, or better likeness but very mediocre paint and slightly less detail with SSC. To me, it's "pick your buyer's remorse.":dunno
