Sideshow got people by the balls :rotfl

I so want one...:monkey3

Exactly!
HT maintain volume by only letting certain figures go above the $220 mark. Sideshow must be in decline(Only a few of ther recent figures are hit rather than miss) so they need to make that up somewhere and gouge from the start with most new figures now.

This guy just arrived today. Pretty sweet figure. Will try to take a few more photos but was only able to snap this one for now.

:duff Thanks, guys! I set up the tripod and was able to snap that one pic before my cat came over to see why the detolf was open. Then when I got another chance to take some more pics none came out as nice.

WOW! Great picture, sir.

What's the verdict?

Thanks, Wor. The verdict is Yay. Saw it in person at Midtown and it was in a seated position (possibly floppy body?) but it looked really great--tailoring, paint, and sculpt really impress in hand and in most of the photos I've seen here too.

Looks great TonTon. I think not having the light saber blades in makes the figure look much better.

Excellent pic & nice neutral pose! I'm another person that doesn't display the 1/6 figures with the saber blades usually too, it just kinda kills the realism to have a translucent piece of plastic sticking out lol

I save the saber blades for the more toyish 1/12 figures, seems to work better there in my eyes.

Agreed, it breaks the illusion these figures often give off. I think that's actually why I dig the museum pose too, you might catch a person just standing around, but not frozen mid action.

I got this yesterday with 20% at my local collector store.

The body is a bit floppy and not of the standard of a Hot Toy.

Everything else is fantastic.
No matter what pose you put him in he looks set to start flipping around and battering all the other figures.

I have him posed with the lightsaber in hand ready to ignite. It certainly portrays more realism then when the blades are inserted.

Even though his accessories are sparse this is by far the best Maul and I am not sure, bar the loose legs on the body, Hot Toys could improve it greatly.

Good summary. Definitely helps grabbing at a deal as when you take it out and set it up it doesn't feel like a $240 + shipping figure--just too plain and sparse accessory-wise, but it seems as high quality as all the other figures on my shelf. I noticed the floppy legs right away too but he seems to stand on his okay. Only nitpick is hands fall off a bit too easily.

Was always curious about the scale with this Maul figure. Snapped this pic since I believe the actors are supposed to be about the same height. We all know they made Rey too short.

Wow, HT struggles with female figures. Back in the early days like Elizabeth Swann, they made women too tall, now they're over shrinking them.

So I looked up their respective heights and he's 5'10" and she's 5'7" supposedly. Anyhow, I don't think Maul came out too underscale. Possible the head sculpt could have been a hair larger.

Man, props to SSC for capturing the intensity of the character. I dont know if it's the sculpt, or paint, or a combination of both, but they really got the spirit of Maul down with this one.

Paint is crucial, if you stripped this down to just a sculpt without paint, I bet the face is pretty neutral, the style of the black details within the red of his face goes a long way towards selling the emotion of Maul.

Compare the Sideshow Mauls.

Such a huge difference, right? The first one looks more like a stoner doing decent cosplay hahaha

Honestly I think all the improvements to the intensity are because of the eyes (both sculpt and paint).

The mouth has a little bit of a sneer too compared with the more neutral first one. Really impressive sculpt, though I know people have mentioned that the likeness to Park isn't necessarily all that close. Can't say I can tell if that's the case. :lol

So I was on the fence about this one, but with all the HT announcements, I'm going to have to skip this one due to money and space.

I reckon i see a majorly strong Park resemblance in there.
I have some spare headsculpts. If they hadn't cost me so much, i'd be tempted to repaint them in flesh tones just to see, lol.

Oh yeah, Ive heard that too, but honestly cant say Ive studied anyones face enough to know if these sculpts are 100% accurate (blasphemy around here, I know. We're supposed to know every little detail lol)

I noticed the more pronounced sneer too, it definitely adds to the intensity as well

I don't know if every feature is exact to Ray Park, but the figure looks like Maul right out of the movie. I've owned and looked at dozens of Maul products over the years and I've seen my share of "Maul cosplayer" heads, this is not one of them.

The sculpt is definitely what keeps this figure in discussions and the thread from disappearing back several pages.

If it had come with all of the accessories that the original version did, I believe it would have been mentioned as a contender for figure of the year.

I have yet to see a bad photo of this figure. It simply looks amazing. If it didn't cost so much, I would have replaced my original SS figure with this one. Perhaps if it is available for the Spooktacular $50 discount this year, I may pick it up.

Man still debating to getthig guy because Darth Maul is one of my favorite characters from the Star Wars Universe. Yeah he was miss used in Episode 1 but still his presence in the film and his arc stories from comics to the clone wars was awesome. Decision decision.

For me he is my most stand out figure in my display and I have Force Awakens Han Solo (which is phenomenal).
I certainly find myself drawn to Maul the most and just sometimes stare at him for ages lol.
He was very light on accessories and very over priced on that basis, but he is exceptional and I am glad I sold my old SS Maul for this one.

The only thing holding me back is that price I do really want it. It definitely is an eye catching figure.

Once it's in your hands you won't regret spending the money! It honestly doesn't cross my mind at all when I look at him.
Plus, the first SS Version was so terrible and it doesn't look like a HT's version is on the cards for the foreseeable future and even if there were to be, bar some accessories I really don't think you could better this figure.
