(Vader) quite a few inches taller than Billy Dee Williams.
That's the part you got right. The other parts, nope.
This Vader release is well proportioned for the most part with the exception of the Helmet which in stock form is far off the movie versions. However, when posed next to other releases from Sideshow and the Hot Toys Luke, he is far too tall. I'll know exactly once I get the figure in hand, but from photos it's clearly a lot more than 1/4". Vader didn't TOWER over anyone except R2, Ugnauts and Jawas in any of the movies (maybe, on a whim, I'll give you Leia). Hell,m there were other actors that came up within 3" of the top of his dome! Billy Dee BTW, is/was only 6' tall.
I am 5'9" (same as Hamill in the movies) and have (and have had) plenty of friends who are 6'3" to 6'5" and while they're taller, they're not TOWERING like this Vader figure over its contemporaries.
Maybe Sideshow is starting from scratch with their 1/6 line scale - we won't know until the new Hoth characters come out this fall (imagine!). But this figure does not line up with anything they've released in the past few years. It's not just slightly out of scale, it's grossly out of scale. Insanely out of scale. Except the Helmet which is still too small. But still not as bad as ANH Vader scale - that thing was created in a vacuum. By people who had never seen a Star Wars movie.
Remember when this guy was first previewed and people were talking about stupid crap like the lights on his chest? Or the frumpy costume? Talk about not seeing the forest through the trees. Now most people don't care that he's way too tall. I love the character, love what I've seen of the figure. Still not disappointed I bought him, but I'm still concerned about the scale. I have another figure I want to display him with and I'm kind of a stickler for scale - I also don't have patience for artists who don't show attention to detail - an egregious scale misstep is kind of pathetic when so much else has been done to the 9's.
