Vader v. Luke

Vader v. Ben

Vader at the Emperor's side

Vader with Fett at his side

Vader at Tarkin's side

Vader flanked by stormtroopers

Vader flanked by snowtroopers

Vader flanked by Iron Man and Nicholson Joker

Vader v. Keaton Batman

Should I go on....

Vader flanked by Superman.... Almost missed that one... Oh, and Vader with Indy.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Awesome news. I never purchased a ANH Vader because of the bad front profile of the helmet flaps. Now my patience is rewarded.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Really exciting news... I missed the ANH Vader, then was sort of glad I missed it due to the height, cape, gloves and dome issues everyone seemed to be trying to fix (a HASBRO dome fixes your Sideshow Vader?!) And to me the ESB/ROTJ version is best anyway.

I see lots of bits in a google search, but is there any thread that says what Hurricane's Vader/s were exactly? He was a customs guy that did an upgrade/repaint to the SSC Vader and sold them, or was it more of a full custom creation like Rainman?

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Hurricane built his Vaders from the ground up. But he would also take upgrade orders... He hasn't seemed to have done much of anything lately though.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Wonder if he will come with a display stand like Boba and IG-88 did. That would be nice!

Yeah, hoping they do something really cool with both the stand and the exclusive (though hope they don't go with a numbered exclusive so that anyone who wants one can get one).

Did he just cast the main Sideshow bits and customize/fix them, or did he actually sculpt the helmet, chestplate etc.?

Hurc's been building Vader's since 2003. I got one in early 2005, his first light up Vader -- chest box, belt boxes and saber. It also had the Hasbro sound box for voice, breathing and saber sounds. It was build from the ground up using various parts from model kits and many that he machined himself -- real metal bits in the reveal helmet. Basically the one I have can do everything the real vader can do short of walk. It still blows away many figs in my collection and can stand alongside recent HT figures without shame.

I think he's been very sick on and off again.

Wow, would love to hold one of these Hurricane Vaders. They were done way before I got into this hobby. I know this is 5-8 years ago (several eras ago in terms of prices it seems,) but how much were they - Rainman prices?

Interesting to see how they compare with this new SSC release in-hand, just like it's possible Rainman's Marty will still be better than HT's.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

They were almost Rainman prices back then. I paid a very expensive penny for the first "deluxe with lights" one. I think eventually he even got so advanced as to make the blinking chest lights blink in the correct pattern.

He also made a reveal Fett for me after that that I also treasure -- voice function (OT Voice), jetpack light and chest light works, real metal bits, etc.

Anyway, yes, it will be interesting to see the gap narrow even further with this new SS release. Curious just how good it will be next to Hurc's... and which one I feel will be the definitive one (emotions aside).

Was that Fett a "ground up" custom, or did he use upgraded Marmit gear with a customized Hasbro OTC helmet like the ROTJ version he did later (just found that thread)?

This new Vader is like the ultimate upgrade to the Hasbro removable helmet one that came out years ago. That one had a decent Shaw head sculpt for the time, maybe useful if SSC decides to turn to the dork side and do a Hayden head in there.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Hopefully we can get it in hand before a year from now.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

Fett was also a ground up build but relied on available parts from Marmit and the soft pouches and sound from the Hasbro 12". I think the Marmit bucket was too small and it turned out that the hasbro helmet on the later Fett actually had the better angled shape so we used that. It was more of a bash than Vader but Hurc still managed to surprise me with real metal ***** on the toes, knee darts, the barrel of the rifle, and a few other places. Plus it had a full repaint, weathering, etc.

But like Vader, I'm almost afraid to touch it its so delicate.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

The Hurricane Vader hard parts link to the Kaiyodo vinyl kit - I'd know them anywhere. The dome seems to be a Hasbro convert.

Yep, kaiyodo was a great kit. I have that one also (all the SW kaiyodo actually). Small though for 1/6th. I think he recasted and enlarged over time, making his own alterations along the way. He used some Hasbro parts too. He, like many, liked the Hasbro dome...which I never liked. I think he made so many Vader's that it really depended on the price someone wanted to spend that determined what parts he'd use to make it affordable.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

This is a bit dissappointing, unless there are multiple Shaw portraits.

I know you can't say much about Vader right now, but is the portrait sinister looking for Anakin, or is it closer to Shaw's emotion in the movie?

Sinsiter Shaw. It's nice. I even wanted to give him Sith eyes, but Lucas didn't approve it.
