You dremelled, didn't you?

Nice pic!

Sideshow isn't charging customers for shipping based on the rates they pay. I'm sure they do enough volume to qualify for some of the lowest rates in the business (not including heavyweights like Amazon of course).

As an example (and there have been a few before), the non-exclusive Scout has shipping charges of $20.56 to Niagara Falls NY, vs $18.63 for the Exclusive. They're probably just playing fast and loose with shipping to pad the product price. I'm not saying the rates are higher than retail price, but they're certainly higher than their volume discounts necessitate.

Hmmm, disappointing, if so. Generally I always try to give SSC the benefit of the doubt but I guess you never know.

I plugged the dimensions of the R2-D2 they shipped me into UPS.com, and SSC is quoting $13.42 to ship it to me, and through UPS' website, it's only $11.79. Someone posted earlier, in a Live Chat with SSC, that they don't make a profit off shipping costs. . . that's probably one of those half-truths in that they subsidize international rates by charging domestic people more, so they lose money on international, but profit on the domestic. I know UPS International rates are ridiculous, (to London, UPS quotes $200), so when international collectors here say SSC is quoting them $30 or so, I know SSC is doing some sort of fuzzing with the rates. That's the only way I can rationalize them saying they're not making a profit off shipping.

Looks like the Hasbro, either the one that came with the speeder or the one that was released later by itself that's pictured below. It might be on a new body and the helmet could be the Tomy?

Wow so 200 on the left and 20 on the right??

I used a vixen file and some elbow grease, couldn't find my rotary bits. Rubio's pics were too good not do it myself. I dislike the prometheus bodies but taking down the sides of the torso and inner biceps sure does make a world of difference. Rubio is a genius!

Unless you were really lucky or really early, the Tomy Biker helmet went for a lot (sometimes over $50) and the modded Hasbro figure there also has the custom pouches/cumberbun which I think were offered on these boards - not sure how much they were.

So it's probably about $100 all up for that custom and the Tomy helmet from memory is just a tad undersized, though not as bad as the other Tomy helmets like ATAT driver or Lando Skiff which are more like 1/7. Tomy biker helmet does have the very cool "flip-up" option though - something Sideshow didn't do.

I made a custom Biker pretty much out of solely Hasbro parts (i.e. rebooted the Hasbro helmet and pouches) and a few parts-bin bits - I'll post pics once my SSC Biker arrives.

So it's probably about $100 all up for that custom

I think it's getting close to $100 just with a helmet and body - if someone's lucky - $20 for a body, $20 for the Hasbro original, $50 for the helmet. Now let's add $20 for the pants, $10 for the gloves and let's call it $50 for the custom waist band and pouches. That's $170 now. I don't think this custom can be made today with all-bought parts for less than the Sideshow version.

So not exactly $20. ;)

What you are saying is probably true. But sideshow isn't even paying the $11.79, as I'm sure they get a bulk rate which would whittle down that cost quite a bit. I get charged over 20 bucks a figure to Minnesota. They are gouging quite badly and its making me look to other alternatives when possible.

If this is really what's going on, I have to say I don't mind at all. I've read several horror stories (ok, nothing scary, just disappointing stuff) about crazy shipping fees for international collectors from eFX and some other companies essentially eliminating the possibility to obtain certain pieces. A $200 shipping charge would pretty much keep me from collecting from SS at all, and I'm sure most others would agree. What's a couple extra bucks ($6? $8?) if it means fellow collectors in farther away places can also have what we all love? :)

Ok after owning this guy for all of an hour I can say he's a nice enough figure and fairly typical of most sideshows offering in that from some angles it looks great and from others just off enough to distract you, you can see instantly what HT will do to kick this version into obscurity, I'll be either dremeling or body swapping myself, but it's still a nice figure overall

To be honest, I'm not thrilled with this one.:(

My heart sank a bit when I saw the helmet in hand - it looks pretty distorted in a number of ways to me. Still a decent quality figure overall as always, though the fact the arms can't be put down next to the body without dremeling is a bummer. Love the rifle though.

As discussed above, below is my 3/4 finished fully-Hasbro custom (unpainted and haven't replaced webbing) alongside the SSC. It did indeed cost me $20 - it has some old casts of Marmit Boba pouches.

SSC's a nice quality upgrade over the custom, but not quite as happy as I hoped. Maybe tomorrow will increase the love.:lol

Here's my review of the new Sideshow Collectibles Scout Trooper 1/6th scale figure. Overall, it's a fantastic addition to the classic original trilogy trooper collection! Hope you can check it out :)
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to mine even more now!

Definitely cool despite my nitpicks, I'm more critical of OT figures then prequel so to me he probably on par with the clones
and love the diorama bases I just dremmelled and padded the torso as well and obviously redressed futzing as I go.
Im also guessing the belt goes over his cummerbund as it seems perfectly sized rather then all loose sitting below

I really didn't want to dremel, but it kinda needs it.

The helmet reminds me of the Kashyyk Scout Trooper. Narrow, small dome on top and vertically stretched the way those ROTS troopers were.

Also, does the SSC Biker pistol seem a bit too small? Seems tiny.

You sir, are awesome. But i guess it all boils down to how much we really want the thing! Two words... Jabbas throne:thud::slap

my impression is overall some of the armour components are on the small size the gloves to slim and the blaster is about half the size of the gg bust version

In movie screenshots it seems bigger - the SSC one is so tiny it almost looks like it might work for the black series Biker.:lol

The Hasbro 12" scale pistol in the pics I posted above seems only slightly oversized - closer to accurate.

The SSC snowie I'm not a huge fan of, but out of the box I felt it was pretty cool looking. This is a tough figure to instantly love - many things seem a bit wonky/off (yeah, some of the armor does seem small) yet it's growing on me, even if I'm seeing it as a videogame/ROTS scout, not a ROTJ one.

And what is it with SSC armored figs and tiny codpieces? :lol The soft codpiece on the Biker should be double the size.
