SS seem to be getting worse.

I'm pretty sure that Sideshow has done nothing but improve since 2005.

Yes, there's no comparison between Luke X-Wing and, say, Ceremony Luke.

They've got everything apart from the paint on the sculpt. Having got HT Stormtrooper Luke yesterday, I think I agree with Pixelpiper that SS has the better underlying Hamill sculpt.

The heads have gotten better but haven't kept pace with the state of art. Others have posted that Fury Road figure and any DID military figure has near-HT quality sculpt and paint apps. There's at least a half dozen lesser companies that consistently deliver near-HT quality heads.

But as for the rest of a fig, I'm always saying this I know, but Sideshow weapons, accessories and even to some degree clothing were great even in 2005. And some things do go backwards - smuggler Han holster is superior to the Han Hoth holster and the ANH Vader bodysuit is superior to the DX bodysuit.

And X-Wing Luke is nearly FIVE times the cost Yavin Luke was.:lol

SS has improved quite a bit since their initial $20-50 1/6 offerings. Better bodies, tailoring, detail of accessories. Paint has been great on some and piss poor on others. Sculpts have gotten better as well. Even HT doesn't replicate the actors looks, see Ben and Han. But their paint is well done, and that gives them a pass. To me, the sculpt doesn't make the figure. Unless it's a man in a suit, but that's a boring figure anyway.

The prices though, from all 1/6 makers, is laughable.

Exactly. SS is lagging so far behind much smaller companies.

Much smaller Asian companies. But, this is all academic at this point. Hot Toys fans jacked the prices when they started paying $300-600 for AVP model kits in the after market. Then TDK figures. Then Iron Man. If people were willing to pay that much for a HT figure, there was no reason for HT to show restraint in pricing. I'm not complaining that a basic figure now costs a c-note more than a 14" armored and armed Predator. They get $200+ for a figure, they can give us amazing figures.

Now, let Disney see that and you can bet they will expect the licensees for their shiniest, newest property to yield a premium. Why would they accept less from Sideshow than HT? Because they can't compete on the level of cost? Because they have yet to figure out how to pay for industry standard paint apps? No, and no. For one, why would HT do Disney's bidding when Sideshow gets a pass? It's not Disney's job to provide a level playing field to the 1:6 market. If Sideshow can't swim, Disney does not care if they sink. I'm not sure Sideshow does either. Star Wars 1:6 isn't exactly what keeps them afloat.

Am I confused or is Hot Toys AND Sideshow (Exclusive) releasing/shipping 1/6 scale Ty Fighter Pilots? From what I can tell the only difference is the 'exclusive' blaster pistol. Both are $199. If you had to pick one, which would it be and why? Thanks!

Sideshow are releasing the TIE pilot from Star Wars A New Hope and Hot Toys are releasing a TIE pilot from Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Ahhh..I think I see now. Sideshow currently has two versions of the Star Wars - 'regular' and 'exclusive' (with the pistol). Guess no one can predict if Hot Toys will release the Star Wars TIE Pilot, but as they just released the Force Awakens pilot my bet is no.......

I would say they would want/have to wait a bit before HT could do their version.

Thanks for the photos and review, momaw. I think he looks improved with the fuller waist.

Shame about the damage to the helmet,. Hope Sideshow can sort that out for you.

Got a reply from SS today and they are checking their replacement parts inventory. Hope the parts have made their way over to SS HQ.

UPS are hopeless.

Was meant to be delivered today, but they changed their mind 15 minutes ago.

If you shine a light on the eyes, are they transparent of just painted black like the rest of the helmet. With the HT SpaceTrooper you can see a hint of green in the plastic when light hits the eyes.
