I wonder if the new Hot Toys Machiko body might work for this.

The female Buck is simply unacceptable.

I had the same thought but from what I can tell Machiko's lower legs are sculpted armor. I'm not sure if the female Secret Service fig has the new HT body.

Got mine in today....:sick

First off, SS's quality has apparently gone to the dogs. The belt straps and backpack straps (on the back) broke almost instantly, and her grappling disc fell off, so I spent the better part of my time taking her out and gluing stuff back into place.

The sculpt is awesome, although I like the darker eyes of the prototype much better than the light brown on the product.

Most of her accessories are pretty cool (especially the pistols), but she's missing the canister grenades which fix onto the backpack. Doesn't seem like much, but for $80+? Come on...

I honestly don't know why they even bother with the Buck body. That's a sick f#$%ing joke. SS should've sold this as a "kit" for about half of the cost and threw the jacket and the body in the trash.

Is it worth getting?

For me it was. But get ready to do an immediate body transplant and have the superglue handy. Plus, if you don't mind paying $80+ for a good Tomb Raider Kit then go for it. If you're not very resourceful and you expect to extract, assemble, and pose---you might better pass.

Just my two cents. Thanks for hearing.:naughty

Quick impressions -

While I didn't have the same problems, I have to echo Ashton16's sentiment.
I'm really happy to have the makings of a great 1/6 Lara, but there really should be an increase in quality at this price.
I can easily see the straps on the holsters snapping and while the jacket looks okay, it feels really cheap. There is a wire in the flap but mine doesn't stay folded. I like the idea of the mock-sweater but so far I'm not having much luck getting it to lay flat enough to look good. This might just be a futzing issue.
I'm not going to bemoan the Buck because it's already been accurately described in this thread - a body swap is a must unless you get lucky and yours comes with tight joints.
The head is excellent and the quality of the paint application is good. Unfortunately her eyes don't seem to be in synch - the left looks off center which throws off the whole appearance. I haven't examined all the accessories too closely but the pistolas are great and the Exclusive Excalibur is perfect. I also like the boot sculpt a lot.

Anyhoo, I'll get back to futzing and see how she grows on me. Bottom line - I'm not disappointed but there are definitely issues.

A couple of quick shots w/ the Triad Triarama -

I can say that I am glad I canceled my order. I still hope one day to see a great 1/6 Lara figure.

The guest reviewer on MWCToys is less enthusiastic. :(

I just read that review and had to seek out this thread just to mention it. :lol

Wow, that's the most savage review I've ever read on his site. I have no interest in this figure, but it looks OK. I'd hate to see what he had to say about some of the real dogs Sideshow has put out.

Bear in mind, that's NOT Michael writing that review, it's a guest reviewer.

Even so, "Horribly, horribly heart wrenchingly disappointing. Worst birthday present ever, and that's including the socks I got one year." is not what you want anyone saying about your product. :lol

I don't think it's nearly that bad, but I had my expectations in check.

Yes, I know it's a guest review. I would be much more surprised otherwise. I do think the fact that he's never bought a Sideshow figure before means you have to sort of take what he says with a grain of salt.

True, but imagine what it must be like to get your first $80.00 collectible figure and be faced with the horror of the female Buck.:mad::banghead

I'd probably be way more pissed if I didn't know what was coming.

hopefully his last review, received mine today and i have to say i think he was way too dramatic. "Metal guns would have been better." :lol

The figure has issues, but not as bad as that review.

Though it made me look at my figure again. I have the exclusive ordered, got the excluive box/stick but no sword???????

I was gonna say...I looked at your pics and didn't see the sword, but the sticker was there. I figured you just didn't shoot it. Better get on the horn.

The worst part is that he says he will never buy anything from Sideshow again. That's a horrible thing. Lara may be(in his eyes) a dog, but Sideshow has done so many great figures over the years that it's very bad to judge the whole company on just this one figure.

Have to say, that review took no prisoners, I don't think she's 'that' bad, but the Buck is just a recurring nightmare, a sub-par embarrassment for SST.
It had its day, at one point, just a few short years ago it was a shining beacon, but now it’s a sloppy, floppy antique.

And that jacket is pretty poor, it's just not an $80 figure.

I agree. And I also suspect that whoever designed the female Buck has never seen a naked woman before.

This could have been such a good figure... but it just looks poor even in the official promo pics! It could be good as a basis for a custom figure, but just doesnt make the grade as a Sideshow piece.

funny thing is i actually like it. now i hardly have any female figures the only non sideshow one is elizabeth from pirates so on comparing the buck body i'm probably not a good judge (although it does seem way behind hot toys from my one female from them)

the jacket collar/shirt piece thing is pretty weak but besides that i really like the figure. maybe my expectations may not be as high as others. i will agree that $80 seems like a lot when you compare it to gandalf or even the hobbits as for what you get with it.

I got mine yesterday and overall I'm very happy with it. My figure doesn't really have "loose" joints, but they're not tight, either. I can move her very easily, but she does hold her poses and supports her own weight. It makes me a little nervous that prolonged play will loosen the joints quickly. The one thing that did disappoint me was her jacket. It's very big around the torso! It looks like a maternity top or something! It takes a lot of futzing to get it to sit right, so fortunately it can be faked. It is a pain, though, to have to really work the jacket to make it look good. I really wanted to keep her with her jacket so she would be a nice counterpart to Indy, but I think I may have her in the blue sweater instead, since it seems like it will fit better. I'm not even going to bother with the shorts and tank top since I'm not crazy about seeing the joints, I'm not that interested in her "classic" look, and since people are saying it's ridiculously difficult to get her boots on.

The guns are a bit hard to put into the hands, and the strap on the rifle is unwieldly. And yes, the guns don't really fit the holsters. I think they could if you really force them in since the holsters do "give" a little. I got them half way and I could see the bulge moving down the holster as I pushed (**dirty**). And according to the official pictures, the guns should go all the way in and stick out the bottom. I'm just afraid to have the paint on the guns rub off with the friction of them going in.

I don't have any issues with the paint job. She does have the one squirly eye that's off-center. And it is a little bit sloppy on a couple of the hands, but it's not really noticeable unless you're really looking for it (the black paint on the gloves got on the fingers). All the accessories are great and provide a good variety of poses and scenarios.

That reviewer was a little harsh on Lara and Sideshow. It would have been nice to know what he does consider to be a good figure. He only ever mentioned NECA. Or do you think maybe he's only ever had lower-end figures and was disappointed at his first $80 fig? I must agree, though, that the stand is loose on mine as well. It's okay since she can stand on her own and the extra support is just enough to make sure she doesn't topple over if I accidentally bump the desk she's on.

As I said before, overall, I'm very happy with Lara. In fact, the more I played around with her, the more I liked her. And once you place her in a pose, she looks great. I'll post some pictures later.
