Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

But... it'll make a billion though.:dunno

:monkey3

Earlier today, John Campea who is one of the biggest Disney/Kennedy apologists out there, said "I'm sure it will be a huge success, it will make $800 million worldwide" :lol

He did admit that Kennedy will be in trouble if Solo bombs though (like $400 million), due to her history with hiring directors who end up not being on the same page as her.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yeah $400 million would be less than ideal if reports are true that the budget has surpassed $500 million on account of the beginning to end reshoots. :lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

:exactly:

All I see is the bizarre decision to show actual zero gravity and the icy-death of "real" space in the Leia Poppins scene... when scientific reality like that has only very vaguely been dealt with in SW as hazy science-ish backdrop ("fly right through a supernova...")... because it is MYTHIC FANTASY, not SCIENCE FICTION.

It's like people seriously don't understand the difference.:slap

Yep, Ruin Johnson thought he was straight up making a Star Trek flick. I heard at one time on set he actually yelled because Leia didn't have her Vulcan ears on. :lol

Damnnn that high? That'd be surprising if it more than doubled the original budget.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Whoa you're gonna wait until Monday to see Solo now? Man I thought Heath Ledger standing next to that giant pile of burning money was a hardcore message but not anymore man. Not anymore...

:lol well played

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

After the disparity between The Last Jedi reviews and viewer feedback on Rotten Tomatoes, I won't be pre-ordering tickets for Solo, or see it opening weekend. I'm skeptical, and would have to see both decent reviews and similar viewer feedback before paying to see another Star Wars film. I definitely won't be seeing episode 9 or anything with Johnson attached to it. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

Yes sir...very prudent...best to do your home work, check the market, and weigh all of your options before incurring the risk of making that sizable $10 movie ticket investment. Very pragmatic.

I don't buy $10 movie tickets. I only pay for VIP seating so I don't have to deal with drunk teenagers yelling at the screen throughout half the movie. Perhaps it's just the city I live in, but for an extra $10 I can actually enjoy the movie with like-minded adults and, ironically, a bar.

Well on that I'm with you man. :duff

I typically find that any premium is more than worth it if it keeps me free of couples with screaming babies or obnoxious teens on their smartphones, etc.

Absolutely. I do the same thing. It’s worth the price for me not having to worry about little kids behind me kicking the back of my seat.

:duff Yep, it's the only way to watch movies.

I actually got into a fight with some drunk, high ***** in the middle of that awful Johnny Depp vampire movie. He was on his cell phone, I asked him to shut it off so he slapped me. I hit him repeatedly, knocked him out, people freaked, we bailed. :lol It made for an unpleasant date night. I avoided going to the movies for a while, after that. I didn't know about VIP seating.

After that, the last "regular ticket" I paid for was Rogue One. At the end of the film, when Darth Vader started chasing after the plans to the Death Star, some ***** drunk teenager stands up and screams, "You're not my father! You're not my father! You're not my father!" in front of a packed theater while his ***** friends filmed him, presumably for Youtube. I'm too old to be dragging people into an alley and risking a prison sentence, but it was tempting. I complained to a friend, and they told me about VIP seating.

Since then, I've enjoyed the ambience of every film I've seen for an extra $10, and I can eat a decent meal and have a pint during the movie. It's been great, and I'll never go back.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Where the hell do you people live?

I have never had anything close to this happen...if pills start trying to turn the theater into MST3000, with even mild “jokes” the entire theater tell them to shut up and it ends before it begins....
And that’s only happened once...

Would you believe Vancouver, Canada? It's a port city so there's a lot of drugs. I was attending a nice Cineplex in an expensive neighborhood, but because it's Vancouver, there's really no escaping that kind of thing unless you pay extra $$$. I now drive to Richmond for the VIP lounge.

I’m in Vancouver too and I’ve never had such a screening haha. The worst I get is all the cell phone lights on at times. I guess I’m going to the wrong places.

Whenever you described your experiences thus far I was always imagining somewhere in Cali :lol

Specifically North Van. That theater by Lonsdale near the Quay? That one is a complete nightmare. I'm in Point Grey now. The Scotiabank theater downtown isn't violent like the one in North Van, but there are a lot of drunk, high idiots talking through movies.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Wow always pictured Vancouver as a chill place....
Even when I lived in Brooklyn, this didn’t happen...
Well unless it was a horror film....then you were sort of obligated to yell at the dumb teens about to get killed.

I'll probably see it, just as I eventually saw Justice League. But I won't be there on opening night, and expectations will be low as hell.

Yeah, I live in the south, and rarely have issues in the movies. Only time in recent memory when I had to tell someone to shut up was Eastern Promises, and they were 50-something women who wouldn't stop awkwardly laughing at the nudity :lol

What awkward nudity in Eastern Promises?:monkey3

:horror:rotfl

And it's so funny to hear about drunks and drugs in theaters - I've seen the worst situations start with two apparently sober people arguing about kicking/rocking the seat back, pretty much like inflight meltdowns.

Ah I see I’ve never been to that one. Either the Scotiabank or Chinatown or Metrotown ones. Sometimes the imax in Langley. I’ll have to go there just to check out the vibe sometime. I’ll post on here if anyone needs beating up, it’ll be like the Spazz Signal

:lol Nope, that's why I buy VIP tickets... I'm too old for that $#%@, now. Not only is it a legal nightmare, but I'm worried about getting arthritis in my hands, from fractures etc. It'll catch up to me, eventually. I don't talk about fighting very often, but today on this forum, and over the last two days in general it keeps coming up. Seasonal depression? I dunno.

I don't like fighting, but feel as though people are shamed into pacification. There's a stigma of "meat-headedness" or "toxic masculinity" surrounding the desire to become proficient in self-defense, which if we're being honest, is the art of hurting people. Meanwhile, police can't help you when you're being assaulted, unless you're lucky enough to find one within screaming distance. It only takes a single incident to have a serious affect on your psyche and/or your health, so I'm an advocate of learning self-defense. All my nephews and nieces are learning self-defense from a young age.
