Bags is THE BEST Venom artist but Larsen did the tounge and drool BEFORE Bags. If you remember, Larsen had the Amazing gig right before Bags started on Spidey. Bags himself has said that he based his version of Venom off Larsen's work.

Also, the reason Bagley gets more credit that Larsen is due to the fact that he's drawn Spidey for the past 10+ years. When someboby mentions Larsen the first thing they think of is Savage Dragon not Spidey.

Mark Bagley's the best! :rock:rock:rock

J.K. Simmons on More Spider-Man Movies
Source: Superhero Hype! June 7, 2008

Superhero Hype! recently talked to J.K. Simmons (AKA J. Jonah Jameson) on the set of his new comedy, I Love You, Man, with Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, and asked a few Spider-Man 4 questions:

SHH!: So we know that James Vanderbilt is close to turning in a script for "Spider-Man 4." Have they reached out to you yet?
J.K. Simmons: We sort of check in once in a while. They say, you know, we want J.K. to do it. We don't know where. We don't know when. We don't know who. We don't know anything, you know? They signed all of us for the first three films. Sam, Tobey, all the way down the line to me and we'll see where it goes. I mean its all conjecture and you guys probably know more than I do at this point. There was talk of doing four and five concurrently and I don't know if they're still considering that or not and I spoke to Tobey in I guess it was February, sort of awards season time and he's certainly amenable to doing some more and hopefully we'll be able to get everybody back and make another good one.

SHH!: Or a couple of 'em?
Simmons: Couple, three, four, five! Whatever. You know, I could buy a bigger house.

SHH!: What if Sam decides not to come back as a director but stays as a producer, would you guys still be...
Simmons: Well...

SHH!: Would you and the rest of the gang still come back?
Simmons: Well, I can only speak for myself, but if Sam were not the director but still had a hand in it then I would certainly have a reasonable amount of faith in it. Obviously if he's the director I'm there 100%. If he's not involved at all, which I think is VERY unlikely, then it would be a situation that I would have to think about. But if he's involved, hopefully directing or at least as a producer then, I'm pretty confident that it would be something that I wanna do. Plus they pay money.

I always think its funny to think of the soft spoken psychologist from Law and Order as that hot headed editor. He really does a good job brining JJJ to life, imo. I can't imagine someone else as him now.

Will either of these new movies introduce Carnage? I hope so. A character that needs to be put on the big screen.

Spider-Man 4 Targeted for May 2011

June 21, 2008

The Los Angeles Times reports that "Spider-Man" franchise producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in May 2011.

Already scheduled for the month of May that year are Marvel's own The First Avenger: Captain America on the 6th and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

Ziskin added that the screenplay is not finished yet, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful Spider-Man 4 could be ready in three years' time.

Neither star Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi is yet committed to work on the next installment, but Sony has paid Marvel to renew its rights.

The saddest thing? Sony just paid Marvel to renew the rights so that means there was a slim opening where Marvel could have said no and kept the Wallcrawler for Marvel Studios....:(

J.K. Simmons is easily one of the best comic-to-actor translations out of all the Marvel comic-to-movie characters. You can nitpick Tobey as Spidey or Jackman as Wolverine (though I still think both are great...nothing against them!!!) but Simmons brought J. Jonah Jameson to LIFE. Whenever I read JJJ in the comics I always imagine J.K. Simmons' voice.

You possibly could've got someone else to play Spider-man, but J.K. Simmons as JJJ is PERFECT casting.

If we got a reboot (yay in my opinion), J.K Simmons would be the one thing I'd keep...

And probably the look of the costume, I think they nailed it in Spider-man 2...

J.K Simmons said he's always down for playing JJJ, so even if they made more films, he'd be the one to stick with...

I for one would like to see a REAL redhead play MJ... maybe Alicia Witt (who I think was eyeballed for the part originally, but turned it down for some reason...)

- IGN caught up with Spider-Man helmer Sam Raimi today at the SXSW Film Festival to discuss his new horror film Drag Me to Hell, and while chatting with the director, we couldn't help but slip in a couple of questions about a certain webslinger.

According to Raimi, he has yet to decide on the villain for Spider-Man 4, though he has firmer plans for the film's love interest.

"Right now, I'm working with the production team," he explained. "I'm in the earliest stages of working with the writer, trying to work out a story."

He added, "We're closing in on Spider-Man's adversary or adversaries... but I think Sony is going to want to release the Spider-Man announcements themselves."

When asked if Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy would take centre stage in terms of romance, Raimi was a little more forthcoming.

"I'm hoping that Kirsten [Dunst, who plays Mary-Jane] will be in it, but we're still talking about that," he revealed. "Definitely, she's got to be in it. It wouldn't be the Spider-Man series without her."

So there you have it -- Mary Jane the likely love interest, while we have to wait a little longer to find out who web-head will be fighting. Spider-Man 4 is released on May 6, 2011, and look our for our Drag Me to Hell review tomorrow.

Raimi really didn't reveal much. I think anyone thinking that Mary Jane wouldn't be in it was fooling themselves. If Dunst doesn't join (which I guarantee you she will especially since her career isn't on the highest mark as this point) they'll recast. Gwen Stacy played like what she was intending to be which was a plot device, she was never intended to be a larger part.

Like most I agree the Lizard is the obvious choice here.

I want a second villain as well, either Vulture or Kraven would work well with Connors.

It'd also be cool to see Bruce Campbell end up becoming Mysterio if that is indeed what Raimi intends.

Black Cat should be in 5, not 4. And they should also bring back Venom in 5, I think that will have given us time to get over the mis use of Venom in 3. And don't forget, Connor's still has that symbiote.

IMO it'd make sense for Lizard to be in 4, either being hunted by Kraven and protected by Peter, or Lizard and Vulture.

In 5, you have the symbiote taken away from Connors because he can't be trusted with it and it either makes its way to Trask or Brock Sr. who wants revenge for his son's death.

Or they could always bring in Scorpion at some point and then turn him into the new Venom the way Gargan is Venom now that Brock has cancer in the comics.

I want SM-4 to go back to basics.

One hero. One Villian. One love interest. That's it. But I trust Raimi and his direction. I think he's learned what can and can't work. I've said it many times before, but I love the trilogy, from I - III. Sure, some were better than others, but I love the way they all mesh together.

I'm looking forward to the fourth installment.

Agreed.

Two villains is just too much. There just isn't enough screen time in one movie for 2 villains. I'd rather have one well developed villain like Doc Ock in SM2, than two under developed villains like Venom and Sandman in SM3. Sandman IMO had the potential to be a great villain but halfway through SM3 he just fell flat.

If Raimi wants to do a second villain, why not just throw in a quick action scene at the begining like the Bond films. A quick fight against a minor villain like the Shocker would be kind of cool.

I think the Lizard is the obvious choice for the villain but I'm hoping for Kraven. He'd make a great "movie" villain IMO.

Sandman HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL. His "origins" story and overall motive were perfect for a great SM movie. Absolutely perfect. And honestly, in my opinion, all of the other stories going on really took away from that. I wanted to see so much more from Sandman, so much more. In many ways, I wish they would have saved Sandman for a SM movie where he was the only villain because I think he deserves that much time on the "big screen."

But it is what it is.

Hollywood needs to make another SM-2. That's what this next installment needs to follow as a template.
