Re: Rogue

And you know that they weren't deceived by the factory? Perhaps they had good reason to trust them enough to not require a sample. You have seen Vampirella, have you not? Clearly the factory workers were aware of the crap they were sending to California. I highly doubt that the suits at SSC knew, since they know by now how vocal and particular their clientel are. This is not the first time these things have happened and they are savvy enough to understand the pitfalls of sending out something no one will want.

it would be horrible business practices to allow yourself to be deceived by the factories you contracted, and just plain stupid not to require a sample. The only way to catch mistakes (weather deliberate or accidental) would be to check those samples and be in communication with the factory. I highly doubt that SS would just send specs to a factory with no oversight. That is a pretty weak argument there.

Re: Rogue

I think it's a much weaker argument to suggest that they knew what was coming and sent it out anyway. It does play into the distrust of all companies bigger than a lemonade stand, so it guarantees an attentive audience, but it makes zero sense because they would have known the people who bought would lose their minds. They would know that at best they'd be stuck with thousands of unsellable statues, when all it would have taken was another round at the factory for paint apps on the heads.

What does make sense is that the factory, knowing they would have to put in all those hours again, and more than likely not get paid for it if Sideshow knew they had botched it, convinced them that the situation was not what it was.

Regardless, none of this changes the fact that no one in this thread has a single clue what happened, yet it has stopped as many from posting their absolutely certain and convinced opinions. Conjecture is a guess. The lack of humility in the conjecture being aired in here does not suggest even the slightest hint of doubt.

Re: Rogue

A little levity is okay once in awhile, Ironlungs, which is what Buffy Girl provided.

No I don't, xYx. I only heard rumors of there being two shipments but nothing factual.

According to SS there was only one shipment, no split shipments.

There are Sideshow employees on site in every factory.

so your speculating as to why other people's speculation is wrong. Makes perfect sense :dunno

basically it comes down to this, either SS is an incompetent company that did not provide adequate monitoring of the company manufacturing and painting their statues, and furthered that incompetence by not bothering to inspect said statues before sending them out to hundreds of buyers. Or SS is in fact very competent company and closely monitored the company producing and painting their statues, and upon inspecting said statues decided that the quality met their standards and that if they simply changed the pictures on their site the sheep that buy their product would not complain. I really can't think of any rational explanation of how a product that is this defective and different then the product solicited could have been shipped out to customers.

Re: Rogue

IMO, had they changed the pics prior to shipping, and emailed everybody that purchased with an option to cancel explaining the changes, that would have changed the mentality a great deal. Sure, people would still be upset, but at least they couldn't say SS was shady about it.

:exactly: and there wouldn't of been a fraction of the complaining that there has been.

Re: Rogue

The much more likely scenario is that they were asked to change the butt by Marvel, they did it, and they didn't think it would be a big deal, it never occurred to them that the change would ignite a firestorm.

And you know what, it probably wouldn't have, but you had a perfect confluence of events (highly popular character, a change, the lack of notification, and then the bad paint job), and resulted in a perfect storm of customer unhappiness. Had the paint job not been as bad as it was, I think a lot of people would have lived with the change.

Re: Rogue

A lot of people seem to be accepting the "marvel made us change it" line. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't believe this at all. At all

Re: Rogue

Not too sure about the buttucks change. I am ok with the change as it is more realistic of the fabric stretching unless they designed to be weggie tight. On the other hand, this is an adult collectible.

I wish that Disney/Marvel would recognize that we are adults buying these things.

Re: Rogue

I personally couldn't care less about the butt change, I generally don't display my statues backwards.

Re: Rogue

Lets take a hammer and chisel to that butt :lecture

Re: Rogue

I'm curious, recently Sideshow has hired some customizers from this board to build their prototypes. . . why not hire some of the folks from these boards to live in China and oversee QC??? Surely, they would accept payment in the form of PFs instead of a monetary wage, right??

Seems like it would work out.
