Re: Firefly?

What it says on his filecard IMO doesn't contradict being a member of COBRA Command since I'm sure the Baroness was probably paid thru Swiss Bank account and you wouldn't say she was a merc. What Firefly has that no other contractor has is the COBRA insignia on his uniform. I have the first comic were Firefly shows up and he was introduced at the same moment as Zartan. They shook hands and Zartan absorbed some of Firefly's camo. I can see how you would make the mistake since he was introduced at the same time as someone who isn't part of COBRA but the logo on his right arm makes him a member of COBRA. Can't really debate that fact.

There was no mistake made. Whether or not he wears the Cobra symbol, he IS a contractor for Cobra, not a recruit. He's not like Scrap Iron, the CeeGees or even the Vipers who all pretty much, when not on assignment, resided in Springfield or on Cobra Island, etc. He was his own man, had his own place. And in that vein, he is very much like Zartan. He comes and goes as he pleases and has his own agenda which isn't undying loyalty to Cobra Commander. Hence why the Cobra logo isn't detrimental to his character.

Actually Firefly is a lot like Scrap Iron, since SI actually is a member of MARS, not Cobra Command.

Hasbro was a little liberal with the Cobra insignias with regard to FF and SI. They both work with Cobra without being official members. They probably just thought "Cobra Saboteur" and "Cobra Anti-Armor Specialist" sounded cooler than "Enemy" Saboteur and Anti-Armor Specialist.

Again, this is a cool looking figure that resembles Firefly, but standing alone, you wouldnt know he was a GI JOE figure.

Well if you put Duke on a shelf with other generic army figures a lot of people wouldn't recognize him as GI Joe either (especially if he was equipped with the M-16). Not all the characters are going to stick out like Destro or Zartan.

^^^ DOnt think that is the case at all, Duke looks just like Duke, what made Firefly, Firefly was the camo mask and the dark coloured suit, this
figure doesnt look like that so on his own hes a COD figure

Not necessarily. If you decked him out in all his gear, he'd fit right in anonymously with a shelf full of PMC figures.

Re: Firefly?

While a HT line would kick some major ass, they for sure would be $175+ and still reuse stuff.

Even with the quirks like Firefly, I like what Sideshow is doing. There sculpts are fine and quality is there.

Still think Dragon or DiD would have been the better choice to go with.

A good example would've been the Dutch and Billy figures. Not only did they both use a few of the same elements between them but some of the pieces used on them were rehashed from previous military figures. But I guess to some, along with the broken pegs and mismatched arms, that's fine despite the higher HT price.

To be critical of HT as much as I love their products and think many of them are amazing (The Godfather figure is mindblowing)...

...I would actually agree that barring the really good likeness on the Dutch head the human Predator figures are among the more disappointing HT figures in recent memory. They lacked any of the "wow" factor of some of the other HT figures and had some serious deal breaker issues. HT really needs to stop making figures from films when they don't have likeness rights. I know some people might argue otherwise but it always makes me really sad.

Edward Scissorhands in particular bummed me out. Awesome, amazing costume... almost worthless head (imo). Negates for me any reason to have the figure.

Re: Firefly?

these so called "updates" worry me cuz if sideshow ever does a shipwreck( and hope they do) i want him to look exactly like this:

2nd image isn't showing up. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they tweaked him a bit. As cool as the sailor hat was in 1:18 scale, I'm not so sure how well it'd translate to 1:6 without making him look a bit light in the boat shoes.

Re: Firefly?

shipwreck could benefit from an additional peacoat or poncho or something, but obviously have the regular shirt underneath.

i like the sailor hat:( the second pic is the 25th anv. version with the wool sweater and wool cap. don't know why the pic disappeared.

No way...shipwreck needs the Navy Seal makeover. He should come off something like Hot Toys Commander: Specter

Re: Firefly?

I just have to remember to by near a computer on monday, Thought Firefly would bea B/W item.

Re: Firefly?

I think Shipwreck could be done any way and I'll still buy him. SS is doing a fantastic job on these figs, and I hope they keep it up! Bring on Zartan!! :rock

Yep, I think this is the only way we'll ever see him. I don't mind, I like the Devil's Due look. I'm fairly annoyed we haven't seen a decent 25th-style version. The movie version is close, but it's... well, the movie version.

I would love to see a Sideshow black wool cap version of Shippy. As long as he's got a few of his trademark items (Polly, tattoo, beard) he'd be just fine. As much as I love his original look, I don't think he'd fit in otherwise.
