Only prequel character I _need_. Now just to wait for the popcultcha shipment in 2087. Worth it with the pennies I had saved up.

Think they still have him available if you're not a gambler and want to avoid the waitlist at SS.

I got the original Hasbro back in 99 and still have it, will never let it go simply because of how much it meant when I got it.

Sculpt wise, it definitely has Park’s features, and film accurate horn designs. I’ve never seen one custom painted to see what a better paint job could do, paint really hurts it overall.

We all love to joke about Popcultcha but they are great. I have bought hundreds of products from them and their prices are fantastic and they are very very dependable (not perfect though).

:wave

I don't actually have them all - I never got the medicom - but here's my line-up.
They are also not all stock, so perhaps somebody else will make the ultimate comparison in the future.

I like the Sideshow V2 sculpt. Is that the one called "Naboo Duel" that came out in 2015?

Yep never had any trouble with them and more often then not they got the best prices.

I finally sat down and wrote down my thoughts on Maul.

Pros:
  • Likeness and realism of the sculpt: less toy like in proportions, and the likeness to Ray Park is stronger this time.
  • Better second sculpt: while I would have preferred the teeth grinding, I really like the new sculpt. The V1 open mouth was unusable for me, while this one will get some rotation on the shelf.
  • Eyeballs: more accurate and realistic in paint and size.
  • No sculpted face tattoos.
  • The eyelids are painted flesh tone, which gives him more intensity in the eyes.
  • The eyes move very smoothly. It's super easy to just pose them with my fingers.
  • The outer tunic is tailored better. The folds around the neck drape better, and it billows more naturally on top of the belt.
  • The new upper body has more realistic proportions. This improves his silhouette and greatly contributes to his overall realism.
  • The box size is smaller than V1. Storage real estate is precious, so making the box more efficient is appreciated.

Neutrals:
  • Red face paint: HT still struggles with this. It's better than the V1, but I still feel it's not right. It has a bit of a translucent quality to it. Depending on the light, it's rather pale, and a bit too pinkish. It needs warm light to shine, which my display unfortunately does not have.
  • Neck: While the rubber neck is more detailed than the V1, it has a limited range of motion since it's connected to the upper body sleeve.
  • Teeth paint: when comparing to the proto, the paint on the teeth of the second sculpt took a hit in detail.
In conclusion, this is the best HT figure I own!
I love that HT seems to have analyzed everything that the V1 could be improved upon: sculpt, paint, tailoring, body and proportions. They took everything to the next level here.
Particularly the proportions are excellent. Something HT usually struggles with, and is something that I particularly like about InArt. HT shows that they are capable of this as well when they put in the effort.
The red paint is the only thing holding this back a bit.
