Ohhhhhh

Learn yours...ROTJ was released six years after the original Star Wars. Also Kurtz?s opinions after being essentially pushed out of the Star Wars fold of Lucas? motives for making the movies are not facts. Kurtz was a little disgruntled by then and he was not stating Lucas? actual mission statement...just a negative viewpoint on where Lucas? head was. Nice try though. Maybe your grandma can fill you in on all of that too.

OT toys still sell like crazy, that is why companies continue to make them. I'm sure you remember the interview with the president of Diamond Toys saying that the ST stuff just doesn't sell and thus why companies no longer bother.

OT will always be king.

As far as Diamond toys.. Yes I remember that. Again I really chalk a big part of that to the lack of imagination to the change in design for the characters.

And there was a huge push for ST toys to be made, in the beginning. Remember all those unsold FO Hot Toys Stormtroopers? How about the dozen Roses gag? The pegs full of Holdos and Finns? They wanted to sell those ST characters but nobody bought them, so toy companies adjusted in the later films.

But there was no opening at midnight with lines for TFA. The Stores were filled with SW toys but before / during / and after TFA it seemed that OT was still the main focus.. I don't recall that many TFA toys.. But I was not a fan and out of collecting that sort of thing by then so I just may not remember. I know there was plenty of Lego toys made for the ST

But I mean of Course Disney wanted to sell toys.. But they were idiots to think a character like Rose would sell and not some new super cool looking Alien or Droid.

Plenty of Mandalorian stuff being made right now by the way!!! ;)

I know I see the Hot Toys stuff and Baby yoda.. I have no idea what is at Walmart and Target.

And Rey had her 3 primary costumes, plus the Resistance one from end of TFA and the Dark look. So technically 5 looks i believe.

But accept for her Dark look none of them were all that different.. I mean Luke had 5 very different looks in Empire alone. Don't get me started about Padme :lol

But I have no problem admitting that the ST does not capture the imagination with the higher end toys.. I have no interest.. Of course I don't own a single high end PT figure either. We will see if the kids of today have a desire for that stuff when they get older.

Not so sure they will.. I mean Obviously Girls collect also but it really is mostly a sausage fest when it comes to this stuff and I just think there will be too many boys who look up to Rey as a Hero.. Finn was wasted in the 2nd two films and Poe was only interesting in TROS IMO. But Kids might feel different. I have no idea. But they were films geared more towards girls and I am just not sure how that will translate to future sales for the series.

I think when you look at the Ewoks its easy to see where Lucas' head was :lol

With SW George really had no idea about what was about to happen. With the film or the toys. He took a gamble and won big time.. But after ANH you started seeming more and more "things" in the galaxy. One could say it was too sell more and more toys.. I am not sure how wrong that would be. But I also think George has a big imagination and wants to see that stuff on screen.

Like I said I think they go hand in hand.

But Ewoks.. Yeah George saw $$$$ in those guys. :lol

No doubt by the time he got to the end of the trilogy he had merchandising dollars in his eyes...but unlike Disney with the ST he wanted to make films that he could merchandise...not merchandise that he could sell by making films.

Wait so ROTJ is not part of the OT because it was 6 years after ANH.

Most of the Hasbro/Kenner sales now are done online, the store shelves are pretty bare of Star Wars toys. However Hasbro is still doing a decent amount of new 3.75" and Black Series from the OT and from The Mandalorian. Toys are no different than other stuff in the world, most of it is now sold online.

As for the future of Star Wars toys do you really think the kids of today who aren't buying the toys now will have some epiphany and start buying them as adults? No way. Most of the folks buying Star Wars toys today had the toys when they were young decades ago. What will happen to all the existing toys when all the Star Wars "boomers" like me die off? I guess I won't be around to care;)

Wow...this is a lot of work. Ok. If we are discussing someone?s reasons for starting...STARTING a project...I think we start with figuring out what they were thinking and planning at year one when they were...STARTING it...not year six when they are finishing it. Star Wars was a single movie with no guarantee of sequels or follow ups...Over time money was made, Toys were sold, Lucas shifted from being a Writer / Director to an Executive Producer and business owner and priorities shift. None of that has anything to do with his original motives for making Star Wars...but if you would prefer to debate whether or not I think ROTJ is part of the OT we can do that. It is part of the OT.

The video below is a fan edit of the final confrontation in TROS. I gotta believe that something like this had to be discussed during production. So, I'll let everyone decide for themselves why they went in a more Rey-focused direction instead.

I'm not even sure they needed Obi-Wan and Yoda as shown here; just Anakin and Luke would've been enough (IMO) to link the Skywalkers directly to the end of the Sith (and the saga). Bringing it all home, and tying things together. No matter what, I'm blown away by the work and craftsmanship that went into this edit. That's some serious dedication!

I remember Rey having two different looks. TFA/TROS and TLJ

As for everyone else changing looks.. We are not talking about ANH Luke / Bespin Luke / Jedi Luke / Hoth Luke / and X-wing Luke here.

Kylo had mask on Mask off..

Again Lucas made the SW films to make toys.. I remember all the freaking toys that came out before TPM... There was just a huge push. TRU was filled. They opened at midnight with a huge line waiting to get the toys..

I think the PT also may have effected how much people would by "action figures" after that.. Many of those sales came from collectors who thought if they kept those figures boxed up they could sell them for a small fortune like the OT figures.. Nope.. They are all worthless. So yeah... I think the collectors not running out and buying up the toys has something to do with ST sales also.

Which may be why Toy sales in general seem to be taking a massive hit.. Ala TRU going out of business.

No jaws the franchise was def made to sell toys the problem was they lacked vision as I e been telling you. They marketed as a new generation for the kids with ot stuff to get the adults in but it cane off as boring . Those characters were supposed to sell but they were so boring they weren?t marketable

I thought the primary reason for the Ewoks was that he couldn?t do Wookies...

I guess I was with you at one point.. I hated what they did to Han in TFA. I was calling him Deadbeat dad also.. I hated his death and thought it was just a waste. I hated the fact there was a first order... I mean how would out hero's let another Empire rise..

Leia.. Well she was tuff to watch mostly because Fisher is tuff to watch :lol

Also.. after watching his dull performance in ROTJ its a blast to see Ford actually try again. I prefer him in TFA way more then ROTJ.

I did not hate with what they did with Luke. Again I think a lot of that has to do with his performance. He sold it and I had no issues with him turning from the Force.

But then I ended up enjoying TROS and because of that I rethought about how they handled the OT characters and how they had to split them up to have any sort of new empire come to pass. And in order to split them up it had to be something like the fall of the Child of Han and Leia and Luke had to be a big part of the reason of that fall.

I thought by having Kylo have his mother help him complete his path to salvation (something that started when he killed his father) and the conversation with Han in really helped bring the death of Han full circle.

Same thing happened to me regarding TROS, with all its flaws, it made me like the rest of the ST better.

I see the black Series in the stores. Always seems to be OT figures. I have not seen a 3.75 figure in years.

Good point.. Again I think Disney was not thinking things through when they decided to focus a movie around a female when its the males that do most of the collecting.

I still dont think Disney went about it the right way in terms of having a universe filled with items you could make toys of.

I don't disagree that the characters did not resonate with the toy buying crowed.. I still say another big part of it is because Action figures are a boys prefered toy and not a girls and these films were geared towards females.

I think Disney just really thought the little girls and the Asian girls would go nuts for these figures.. Boy were they wrong

I never liked the idea of Force Ghosts helping in the fight.. But i could not imagine it. If they did it like the edit above that would have been EPIC... I would have gone nuts.

Of course all the haters would have complained it was just fan service :lol

Seriously thought that is one of the best fan edits I have ever seen.

Hands down best SW fan anything I have ever seen.....

However.....

They introduced the Jedi too early! :slap

They should have materialized AFTER she said I am all the Jedi.

The way they did it you can see all of them behind her already which ruins the big surprise of them appearing after her important line.

Palpatine should have said:

No kidding I can see them all behind you lol

Still though pretty freaking epic.

Yep the last few seconds were awesome but I agree that the Jedi showed up way too early. After "I am all the Jedi" would have been the way to go. Otherwise I would have been fine with that last bit being a part of the theatrical release.
