I am a pretty big fan of BTTF:2. Part 3 is not the best and has the trilogy go out with a wimper instead of a bang. :(

I didn't think 3 was bad, I thought it was kinda fun with the old west setting and all. But I do agree that they should be ranked in the same order they came out, with part 1 being easily the best.

By any measure of cinematic ?greatness? Mad Max: Fury Road is a GREAT film...easily one of the best of the century so far. More acclaim and accolades than almost any other movie released in the last decade too.
Regardless of personal preferences hard to make an argument that the film did not achieve greatness by the existing standards and measures of what constitutes this in film discussion and criticism.

^ I concur. It may have been the fourth in a franchise but it was quite ambitious and original for what it was. It was almost like a reimagining of the franchise with modern budget and FX.

Just a shame it was considered a "mediocre" box office performer.

With your high praise for the PT and ST, I almost forget your genius on other movies like Fury Road. All is forgiven. :)

Oh I agree. Check the Fury Road thread for the central cheerleader there -- me. Or ask Jye, who stills hates me for it.

But I will always give the nudge to Road Warrior -- being the first to take the franchise in that direction, for having Mel, and having great villains and all the inventive cinematography of its day. Fury Road is a superiorly crafted film by a gifted director, but it is still derivative. In the line-up, it can never be best. It might be your personal favorite, but it cannot be best.

It does very much feel like a reboot at times. Or a parallel universe, if we really must use that JJ nonsense.

I thought Fury Road was good but nothing earth shattering. It was sorta like Mad Max with some stylistic choices that reminded me of 300.

Yep, it's #2 for me as well. Truth be told I don't think I've ever actually seen the complete DH3 film, but from the parts I have seen I don't think I've missed anything special. And I know I haven't seen any of AGDTGH. Isn't that the one where he's in Russia and he suddenly has a son? As I recall it received some scathing reviews....

Stay as far away as possible from the AGDTDH.

Fury Road is ass

Stupid victoria secret models

Harding has the charisma of a naked Weinstein.

Hmmmmmm Ass???? I wouldn't go as far as to call it ass. I was very disappointed with my first viewing but liked it more with some repeat viewings.

I still don't get the love it receives.

Its an OK action movie but nothing all that special IMO.

I remember when peeps in the Fury Road thread were saying the villain in that was the best in movie history.. I brought up Vader and they said.. Yep even better then him. Yikes.

Well it would be a tad disorienting if the folks who think TROS is a masterpiece also felt the same way about Fury Road...an actual cinematic masterpiece so at least the whole thing makes sense and explains a lot :)

Masterpiece is a vast exaggeration. It's a mostly forgotten film and it lost money overall. It was a decent flick with some cool scenes.

Whoa!!! We finally agree on something in TROS thread [emoji38]
It has been rare. I think we would do better on films not involving the ST. For the record I am a big fan of Jaws [emoji38]

Was browsing TV and found Jaws 2 on. It's gas the way the sharks got less and less real looking as the films went on. Jaws 2 is an alright flick albeit nowhere close to the original.

Nah...it?s a masterpiece. It may not considered to be one in all circles but to folks who appreciate cinema beyond Tie Fighters and Super Heroes it?s universally and accurately acclaimed as a masterpiece. Google will be your friend on that one.
May not be for you...but it?s a masterpiece.

TRW is the masterpiece of that series not FR.

TRW did everything FR did but better in every way and that was over 30 years ago.

Surprisingly...a film series or filmmaker can spawn TWO or even more masterpieces...George Miller proved this when he created The Road Warrior and then Mad Max: Fury Road.
See also...The Godfather / The Godfather II...Alien / Aliens...the entire Lord of the Rings TRILOGY...A Fistful of Dollars / A Few Dollars More / The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...and too many others to list.

Nope to all of those.

Good Bad Ugly is the one true masterpiece in that series not the others.

Godfather 1 is the one true masterpiece not Godfather 2

FOTR is the one true masterpiece in that series not the others.

Alien and Aliens are two completely different movies for crying out loud lol

There are only 2 movies in the same franchise in the history of cinema that both can be considered masterpieces.

Yup...SW and ESB.

I will give the MCU some respect though for keeping it consistently entertaining with IM1/TIH/Avengers/TWS/CW/Thor1/TR/IW they accomplished what many franchises could not even do for a part 2.
