I guess your cinematic palate is far more sophisticated than the rest of us simpletons. Clearly an action packed romp across the desert with a handful of playboy models is an art form everyone else is just too dimwitted to fully appreciate.

In addition to your keen taste in classic film, apparently you also are privy to secret financial information the rest of the internets are not aware of...see below

"Although it is the highest-grossing Mad Max film, Fury Road was a box office disappointment, grossing just $375 million worldwide against its $150-185 million budget, incurring overall losses of up to $40 million."

Apparently so...if that simplistic take is all that you got out of it...then apparently so.
It?s okay though...everyone does not have to appreciate quality cinema...does not make someone a simpleton or a bad person...just means they don?t know about film. There are plenty of other virtues and talents out there. Not everyone has to be an expert on everything.
You should speak for yourself though and skip the ?come on everyone the film snob?s picking on us are we gonna sit here and take it!? routine ?Everyone? is not a ?simpleton? there are plenty of folks out there and on this thread who understood and appreciated this particular film.
I am not privy to secret financial information that the internet is not aware of, just the stuff that the internet is aware of. When all was said and done the film made money for WB...keep reading past the headlines friend.

I was being sarcastic about the simpleton part chief. Look I didn't hate the movie I just don't think it's what you think it is. And I think more people would agree with me than with you. And I am fully aware it got positive response from pretentious film critics and public reviewers alike. That doesn't mean it's a classic film even if you regard it as such. When is the next AFI top 100 coming out again anyway?

Well that?s the danger of sarcasm right...never know when someone will choose to ignore the obvious attempt at sarcasm and just go ahead and take you at the words that you are saying.
As for how many more people you can get to agree with you...I think that is smack in the middle of ?who cares? and ?you are proving my point.?
I am sure that you can get a bunch of your friends to agree with you that your greasy Micky D?s cheeseburger is better than my finely prepared Peking Duck...but that does not make it so. Or more on topic you could probably get a lot of people to agree that TROS is a better film than say...Vertigo...the box office even adjusted for inflation would support that...it does not make it so.
In short...I don?t care what more people agree with...just because a bunch of people share an opinion does not make it worth a darn :)

Can we also agree then that ANH and ESB are classics and definitely not masterpieces either?
Maybe ?masterpieces? within the Star Wars series...or what passes for a masterpiece in that...but not a masterpiece in cinema or filmmaking in general of course.
No one here really thinks that Wampas and Jawas belong in the same conversation with Ingmar Bergman, Robert Altman, or Andrei Tarkovsky right?

Ummmmmm Ingmar Bergman, Robert Altman, or Andrei Tarkovsky do not deserve to be brought up in the same conversations as Wampas and Jawas :lol

Robert Altman?? The Director of Popeye????

I don't care what the subject matter is.. Great film making is great film making.. I would say SW is a classic and ESB is a masterpiece. Every bit a masterpiece as The Godfather, the Seventh Seal, Solaris or even Popeye ;)

So yeah... I think Empire is a Masterpiece as well as films like JAWS (obviously), Close Encounters, ALIEN, and Raiders of the Lost Ark and think they should be mentioned in the same breath as the film makers that you mentioned :)

I have a feeling that in 20 years it will be taught in film schools...Edgar Wright already declared that it was a personal ?film school? for him before making Baby Driver.
I could fill this thread with more anecdotal information about the impact that Fury Road has made on other influential filmmakers from Quentin Tarantino to Steven Soderbergh, to Robert Rodriguez (the guy that made everyone?s precious Alita Battle Angel agrees that it is a masterpiece).
The film is still too new to assess its true impact but trust me it is on the way.
To those declaring that it lost money, which it did not...it was profitable, explain why it is getting a spin off film. Not a fifth Mad Max but a sequel that does not even include Max.
Wor Gar and I agree that it was great, we just differ on HOW great. I feel genuine sympathy though for the folks who watched this one soar right over their heads...I would not wish that on anyone.

With Reference to the film makers who think its great I will just quote a very wise man I know

:lol

I know the film has its fans.. BUT I dont see the influence of that film on those film makers.. Like I said... Maybe I am missing something.

As for the film soaring over our heads... Again I guess i missed something. Some hidden meaning maybe.. If so then I am not sure what hidden meaning would improve the movie for me.

again I like it but I don't see the influence that it is having on any modern cinema.

I never like to use a films box off to determine if it is a success or not. John Carpenter's The Thing bombed at the box office. It was hated by critics.. It made way less money then FR and it is much more of a masterpiece :)

I mean with Box office logic that means that TLJ is a great film... Eek :lol

This is such BS.. JUST COMPLETE BS!!!! No way someone who posts on a Toy Board eats Peking Duck :lol

Yeah Wampas and Jawas are so lacking in sophistication and class. They rank right up there with stuff you would see at a county fair....you know monster trucks, flaming guitar thrashing misfits, old greasy men sporting mullets, etc...

I always said the Guitar guy was the litmus test to how much you can enjoy this film

I?ve never eaten Peking Duck in my life and don?t have any plans to. Next time I will say Person A?s greasy burger and Person B?s duck...the point is that there are a bunch of people out there who would prefer to consume garbage over something that objectively has more value...i?ve eaten more greasy burgers than ducks so sometimes it?s me.
If, however, someone thinks that you can equate popularity with quality then I really do not know how to help them any further.

HA!!! I knew it!!!!!!!!

I think if you read my other post you would see that i completely agree with this statement.

Those three GIFs > All 11 Star Wars movies combined..

And completely disagree with this one

:lol

:lol That's a really interesting way of looking at it.

Funny enough, porn is always the early adopter in modern times. First to video, first to the internet... likely first to popularize in-home robots. :)

Your bottom paragraph is interesting too! Part of the transition you speak of is on screen in another well done and entertaining film, Boogie Nights!
