No one gives a **** about how "well made" a film is if the end result doesn't resonate. Alita resonated. Fury Road was well shot, well staged, and beautifully scored but the whole was not greater than the sum of its parts IMO. And that's why I haven't revisited it since 2015.

Sure Miller might have told the story of Tom Hardy escorting Playboy models across the desert in *the absolute best way imaginable*...but that still doesn't mean that it was a story worth telling, or watching, or caring about. Yes it was an enjoyable watch, actually I watched it three times the year it came out so I'll give it that. And it didn't disrespect or disgrace the series in any way. But I don't know that it was anything more.

How ironic is this, holy **** :lol:lol:lol

I just replied to you in another thread about a film resonating and here you are saying this :lol

You just summed up the ST. Way to go :clap

Anyone catch the Black Chrome version of FR? I haven't.

I have that version and I have watched it once but I prefer the regular version because of the colors really popping on screen. the way it was shot is beautiful. Both versions have their upsides though. The storm is not as impressive in the chrome edition.

Interesting. You're the first person I know who has seen the black and white version. I know that it's Miller's preferred look but I had a hard time imagining that losing the gorgeous orange and teal would be an improvement so I'm guessing I'd feel the same way as you.

I bought it during a black friday sale on amazon. I prefer the color version for Logan as well but the black and white was cool to watch. I appreciate the original versions more after watching them. The colors in fury road were amazing especially the reds and oranges like you said Khev. The night scenes looked nice too. The chrome editionn to me lost a little of the frenetic crazy energy the movie had especially with the Doof warrior and his flaming guitar. Fury road is a great movie to watch but my go to is Road Warrior. Love all of the conversation about movies and our opinions. Some good insight. I am watching Raiders of the lost Ark in Imax on saturday. I love all the classic movies being out right now.

Of course. Why would I care whether or not it resonated with you? Watch whatever you want on your way to Tokyo and back, it makes no difference to me. :)

Well to folks who appreciate films and filmmaking a well made film will always resonate with them because they love the art form and enjoy seeing the work of a great filmmaker at peak performance.
If what resonates with someone is Muh Lightsabers...Muh Superheroes...then no...I guess the sheer beauty of an artistically crafted piece of cinematic art alone will not do it.
Believe it or not most of the greatest works in cinema do not include laser blasters and guys in colorful costumes fist fighting while a city crumbles around them.
I really enjoy the MCU and Star Wars movies too...but I know that they are not art by any stretch of the imagination.
I cringe when the people who these types of films resonate with suggest that things like Avengers Endgame (which I had a great time seeing) should receive any awards or accolades other than their amazing box office receipts. Were you that guy?
Unfortunately, and I say this with as much kindness as I can muster, I am only going to end up befuddled attempting to discuss cinematic art with anyone who thinks that something like TROS is...well...cinematic art...:)

well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have my share of guilty pleasure movies in my collection. I enjoy them but I also know that most people would scratch their heads at what I see in them. We all should watch what we like no matter what anyone else thinks. I would never try to sway anyones opinion to agree with mine and I know Khev and Jaws and Wor-Gar are the same way. We all like to have fun on here and its good to compare and debate. :duff

Khev, you don't mean... it was...

My man!!! :duff

I've never really thought about it -- because to me, the finale of Raiders is the truck chase and then we just jump to the bad guys melting -- but Raiders has the strangest 3rd act ever for a Classic action-adventure movie: the entire third act (from the point where he heads home on the ship) is about Indy losing, and he's not even wearing his famous outfit. :lol

Some screen caps for the opening shot and the chase scene that ends during the storm. It looks cool but to me the colors are what adds to the intensity of the overall movie experience.

Apparently none of them do... not Cameron, Spielberg, Lucas, so I guess he's in good company. :)

Very true. Though with regard to Spielberg are you speaking of E.T.? Because he ended up going back to the superior theatrical version and thankfully erased the horrible 2002 SE from all circulation post-DVD.

I was indeed thinking the guns in ET... but also his terrible CE3K "Extra" version where Dreyfuss goes inside the space ship at the end.

Both amazing films have been sparred his momentary insanity.
