Ok.. I stand corrected.. I would not admit that part about ROTS being on par with ANH out loud though ;)

Yeah, I am really curious how many PT or even just the ROTS fans here were elementary school when the PT came out.

I mean I would have freaking loved the PT when I was younger and probably continued to love it till I was much older.

I also might have a "ROTJ" moment and realize that the films I use to adore are pretty poorly made.

They are having the same reaction to the ST as us older guys did to the PT when they came out.. And I fully understand that. I had that same reaction to the ST also after the first two films :lol Probably even worse then my PT moments.

But I do really like TROS. I hope that in 30 years I don't have a "ROTJ" moment :lol

I think overall it wont go down that path fully because the acting is solid. If the acting in ROTJ was better then I would look at it much more favorably.

I was! 9 yrs old. Loved jar jar in tpm he was definitely made for kids and my sister hated that I liked him.
Then ROTS came out and it was darker and I was in middle school and loved it.

I tried to get behind ST Star Wars abd thought the reason TFA was so bland was cause it was settting things up but boy was I wrong . Each film is so lifeless and corporate. So even tho I tried to like the ST I couldn?t look past the bad story telling but I could forgive the bad acting of the PT

This makes sense...but think about the moment when Poe has to declare with a straight faces and an exaggerated look of consternation that ?somehow the Emperor has returned.?
In spite of the acting talent terrible writing can derail the best actors and moments like that rank right alongside the PT?s poorest performances.
Then when the Hobbit starts rambling on about Sith magic, because I guess in the ST colleges teach Sith Lore as an elective, it only goes from bad to worse.
The actors are good but the writing is so bad that they are crippled.
Similar to the PT...Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, and Natalie Portman are better actors than anyone in the ST with the possible exception of Adam Driver. All but McGregor have been nominated for or won Academy Awards for acting.
They were destroyed by bad writing and bad direction. Just like the performances in TROS.

Rambling? He had one line: "Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew". I took it as speculation rooted in fear, not any vast knowledge of Sith lore. I'm not saying it would have been my first choice or was anything close to great writing, but it was an efficient way of presenting a possible explanation, as opposed to some of the momentum killing dialogue & exposition found in the PT.

Yep...that?s the rambling that I was talking about. Complete garbage.

I totally get why someone who grew up with the PT would put ROTS on the same level as ANH. Most of the reverence for ANH and ESB is from those who grew up with the OT, it?s coloured by nostalgia.

Personally I?d put ROTS almost on par with ROTJ.

It was just a puppet... No stop motion required.

Ray Harryhausen, AT-ATs, Nightmare before Christmas = Stop Motion.

Rancor, Muppet family Christmas = Puppets

Ah....OK....I was remembering the Making Of special I used to watch when I was a kid, and it was just a puppet, but they shot it at high speed so it's movements would look big and lumbering on screen. I specifically remember they showed him taking a big bite of the Gamorrean Guard and then showed how it looked played back at different speeds.

There are things I have to get past in TROS.. Most of is it in the first 20 min.. I don't care for the scene you are talking about and I dont like the cave scene at all.. But the film, for me anyways, is not filled with moments like that.

Something my dad and I use to always say was that if a movie at least had good acting we could sit and watch it.. But if the acting was bad.. Oh boy that made it a but ruff.

The worst scripted lines are still, IMO, delivered far better then any of the poor scripted lines in the PT. But the PT, IMO, has far worse lines the the ST.

Then when the Hobbit starts rambling on about Sith magic, because I guess in the ST colleges teach Sith Lore as an elective, it only goes from bad to worse.

Other then a through away line or two that you pointed out.. None of it is bad acting IMO. Nothing in the ST comes close to Anakin's meltdown on Mustafar, or Padme's I deeply love you speech in AOTC.. Ewen is Ok but he has to play it dry so its kind of a one note performance. Liam Neeson is good and probably one of the biggest reasons I like TPM the best of the PT.

I get the issues people have with Palps coming back and the explanation.. Its a cringe scene for sure but the actors deliver the lines far better then the cringe they had to deliver in the PT IMO..

Everything you say about the bad script and actors being crippled.. I agree with when it comes to about 75% if TLJ. Yuck. That film is hurt by some bad story elements without question.

I said it once I will say it again.. If the PT had the acting and directing of the ST then they would be something special for sure.

Dude.. The reverence for ANH and ESB goes beyond nostalgia.. I would hold ROTJ at much higher regard if it was a nostalgia thing.

Perhaps, but ROTJ was the worst of the three for most, and that ruins the nostalgia somewhat. For instance, the Ewoks bugged me even in my early teens.

Jedi commits the greatest sin a SW movie can commit.. Its freaking boring.

:slap

Nobody can complain about Han in the ST if they are fine with how he acted and was portrayed in ROTJ.

:slap

How he was portrayed in ROTJ as a war hero, good friend, and good (future) husband.

How he was portrayed in the ST as a loser, dead beat husband/father, alcoholic, who dies for no reason.

These are facts that are indisputable.

Scenes that are supposed to have emotional importance are handled so poorly.. Leia finding out Luke is her brother and Vader her father.. :lol The whole scene just may be the worst thing in the entire saga. Well.... Some scenes in TLJ might be worse but its still awful.

The irony. Yeah, scenes like Kylo Ren killing Han was garbage. We had no build up. A scene that should have been at the end of Episode 8 was shoved into the beginning of the end of Episode 7. It was just some random bad guy killing Han, not his son. Total, utter joke.

And what about TLJ emotional scenes? There are none! They are a laughing stock.

And the one emotional scene in TROS is built on a lie.

I dont even hate the ewoks as characters.. But every time they are on screen the movie comes to a halt.. Ruins the forest battle to be honest. Han and Leia should have been part of an Epic battle not a commercial for Toys. ****ing Lucas.

They were part of the battle...

Luke is a bore... But I am ok with that overall.

Rey is the biggest one dimensional unchanging bore of all time.

Jedi will always hold a special place in my heart. I don't hate it.. But as movie making goes.. It's pretty bad.

As a Star Wars movies goes, it's pretty great.

As Star Wars movies goes, ST is pretty bad.

I think we all favor the OT. Well maybe not Aussiebottt I am not sure about him.. He rated one of the PT film higher then Empire so he might prefer the PT.

Nah. My favorite trilogy/era is the PT. But the OT is ultimately better.

I know that even with the weak ass final chapter of the OT its is the far superior trilogy when compared with the stale / poorly acted PT and the confused / directionless / stale / poorly acted / regurgitated garbage ST.

Fixed.

I really like TROS so the saga has a good ending

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

For the record my feeling on ROTJ are Completely my own..

So please don't hold Jye and Khev responsible :lol

Nah, they feel the same way. It's why they aren't saying anything.

I'd rather watch AOTC on a ten hour loop with Clockwork Orange things in my eyes than sit through ROTS once.

Also, the Rancor WAS a stop-motion puppet. Who said it wasn't?

Surely that is a typo and you mean TROS.

Anyone who says TROS had a good ending is an employee at the Disney world resort and gets a free ride all acesss pass to Disney for the rest of there life.

Khev ... you can?t mean that. The space battle in TROS better than the space battle in ROTJ? The Throne Room confrontation better in TROS? How can anything be better than ?It?s a trap?! In a few years time I believe you will feel differently about this post.

When did I say that every second of TROS is better than every second of ROTJ? Sure the space battle in ROTJ is better. Sure the peripheral aliens in ROTJ are cooler and more iconic. But with regard to the film as a whole and during the moments that mattered the most I find TROS to be superior.

Might I change my mind from time to time depending on my mood? Sure. As I've said before I see my rankings as always putting ESB and SW as #1 and #2 and then ROTJ, RO, and TROS constantly rotating in and out of the #3 spot. If I were to rate those three on filmmaking alone then I'd put RO first, then TROS, then ROTJ. But as "SW films" I lean toward TROS but with RO and ROTJ always in the wings ready to be my preference on any given day.

Your "Whatever the worst moment in ROTJ is better then whatever passes as the best moment in TROS" statement is IMO the best example of STDS yet. Its just Hyperbole.

So objectively true, lol.

I really like TPM so the saga has a good beginning

I love SW and ESB so the saga has a great middle

I really like TROS so the saga has a good ending

I can find things to enjoy about the rest of the films.

So overall I am happy with the saga. I am one of the lucky ones I guess :)

Great way of looking at it.

It's funny that if you look at the trilogies chronologically then:

1. In the first trilogy the first film is best.

2. In the middle trilogy the middle film is best.

3. In the third trilogy the third film is best.

:)

TROS isn’t a good Star Wars film. That is established within the first minute of the movie and that awful awful shot scene.

It is.

I think I used the wrong term... But its how ford plays him.. Ford is such a poor actor in the film.

As for the character himself.. he really is not a whole lot of help on Endor.. Gives away position, gets ***** slapped by biker Scout and cant hot wire a door :lol but all of that would be OK if Ford cared more.

The irony. Yeah, scenes like Kylo Ren killing Han was garbage. We had no build up. A scene that should have been at the end of Episode 8 was shoved into the beginning of the end of Episode 7. It was just some random bad guy killing Han, not his son. Total, utter joke.

So wait.. You are allowed to the ST when I was talking about Jedi but if I talk about PT I get called out on it ;)

Anyways... I agree with the above comment after first time viewing and before TROS. But after the trilogy was over.. Said scene is much better and Han is not killed by some random bad guy.. It plays much better after the trilogy is over.

And what about TLJ emotional scenes? There are none! They are a laughing stock.

There you go about the ST again when I am talking about ROTJ..

TLJ is crap.. How many times we gotta agree on this??

And the one emotional scene in TROS is built on a lie.

Huh?

Wrong

They were part of the battle...

Read what I wrote again.. They should have been part of an EPIC BATTLE not a battle to sell teddy bear toys.

Rey is the biggest one dimensional unchanging bore of all time.

Again with the ST :lol

As boring as she is I find her so much more interesting then Anakin.. At least I believed she was in a Galaxy far far away.

As a Star Wars movies goes, it's pretty great.

As Star Wars movies goes, ST is pretty bad.

Agree to disagree about Jedi.. Great is not a word I would use.

I agree the ST overall is not very good. Its on the same level as the PT.

Nah. My favorite trilogy/era is the PT. But the OT is ultimately better.

Ummmmmmm I knew it.. You messed up.. Ducky and Aussiebottt are the same guy :lol :lol :lol

Sorry just cant agree with the ST being poorly acted other then Fisher... Its far FAR superior to ROTJ and the PT.. Its just your STDS talking.

I can see why you would say the other things..

I am glad my opinion makes you laugh :)

Nah, they feel the same way. It's why they aren't saying anything.

Nope.. I am not sure about Jye but Khev thinks of ROTJ much more highly then I do..

I would like to point out why Aussiebottt and Ducky agree so much.. See how he responds to my comment about Aussiebottt... Ducky forgot who he was for a moment..

I think we all favor the OT. Well maybe not Aussiebottt I am not sure about him.. He rated one of the PT film higher then Empire so he might prefer the PT.

:lol :lol :lol

I kid... Aussiebott already replied.. UNLESS... You forgot you replied as Aussiebott.

The last time he said he would be afraid to get into a war of words with you makes me wonder now if you are the same guy... :lol
