That would have been weird considering Episode III was called Revenge of the Sith. But then again the whole storyline was so repetitive anyway why the hell not.

Yeah, I wrestled with Return of Palptaine, Revenge of Palpatine, and Palpatine's Revenge... but all those titles were taken. :lol

But in the end, that's what the trilogy is supposed to be, so if they just said it upfront (and maybe cut Snoke entirely) it would have made for a more cohesive trilogy. Sort of.

How about The Return of the Revenge of the Phantom Menace...? That's even more correct.

Well TFA was released in December of 2015 and yet here we are, talking about it. I didn't say it would be remembered fondly or that anyone would care, just that it would be remembered. And outside of DC diehards & Joaquin Phoenix's immediate family, I'm betting TFA will be discussed more in 2025 than Joker. It's a Star Wars movie, after all, Hell, the ST/PT debate will likely still be raging here, and you just know that come 2027 Prime Clone will have us rank all the films again for SW's 50th anniversary. :lol

As for the "next big thing" beating it easily - If Endgame couldn't take it down, it's going to take something extraordinary to top TFA. Plus until there's an effective COVID vaccine available, no one (with a brain) will be eager to sit amidst a bunch of strangers in a crowded theater. And if the theaters aren't crowded, the movies being screened won't be setting any records.

Action figure forums are a unique echo chamber...like comic book stores.
It makes sense that TFA is still being discussed here.
Out in the world, however, I can promise you that absolutely NO ONE is initiating a conversation about their favorite moments from Star Wars The Force Awakens.
I can?t even imagine people in my office standing around and talking about that movie.
In spite of being the all time domestic box office champ it has already been completely erased from the consciousness of the public at large.
Anyone who thinks that Toy Forum discussions are a microcosm of what?s going on out in the word is missing the mark.

I wonder if TFA had instead been called The Revenge of Palpatine if it would have appeared to have a more cohesive trilogy.

They thought Kylo Ren was the baddie back then. But Rey's good guy crush was revealed as a non villain when she was force peeping and Snoke was killed/undermined. Had to have a villain and needed a familiar character to get butts in the seats so bring back 11th hour zombie Emperor.

To be fair... Nobody at my job sits around the water cooler and talks about any of the SW movies. They never did before the ST either..

If they did I wouldn't need to come here :lol

The ST is indeed unforgettable.

In fact I think Lucas was worried ANH would be forgotten so he added this in

I would agree that George in large part lost his way in the PT and totally lost his mind when editing the OT. I can't remember, was there a single change he made when tinkering with the OT that could be considered positive?

Fixing matte lines, boxes around spaceships, transparent cockpits, lightsabers? And yet even that stuff was done inconsistently.

Good point. I agree. I think that feeds into a greater point that I did not make which is that Star Wars for the most part is pretty much done.
Sure people go see the movies when they open because it?s the thing to do that weekend but then they are instantly forgotten and disposed of.
They no longer have any cultural impact which is why the merchandise warms the pegs and gathers cobwebs.
Out in the world I hear people talking about Joker, the MCU, even the DCEU...no one outside of the hardcore nerd/geek world really cares about Star Wars any more and Disney?s Shareholders have discovered this the hard way.
The MCU is to the 2010s - 20s what Star Wars was to the 1970s - 80s. Unfortunately for Lucasfilm we are no longer in the 1970s or 80s.

If they handle baby yoda right they can have a whole new generation growing up with him as a new hero to follow. Baby yoda is their life support, it can remain relevant for years. He could go from mando to the movies and kids could follow him for a long time- They would grow old together!!! Its a huge opportunity to do something truly unique- if they **** it up well then ya star wars might be dead, but lightsabers and the force are cool, sure superheroes have powers that mimic the force, but lightsabers will always be unique and awesome so i see it making a comeback at some point

But I think that's true of all movies. Generally speaking, people see and discuss the latest and greatest movie or show, then the following week/month they've moved on from that to the next new thing. That's not a phenomenon unique to Star Wars films.

If you're hearing people talk about Joker and the DCEU "out in the world", you probably just haven't realize yet that they're hardcore nerds/geeks too. :lol Even here the last post in the Joker thread was back in February. But seriously, both the MCU and DCEU have properties that are either awaiting release (Black Widow, WW84) or in production (The Batman, Snyder Cut, The Eternals), so they should be discussed more than a SW trilogy that was finished in theaters in March. If Joker is being discussed it's probably speculation about whether his character is in same universe as that of Patman, so it's still a result of the new movie.

I don't know how much uniqueness you can do with star wars. I don't know if there is much there.

Even the Mandalorian barely was able to add anything unique, it was overall just a solid show that took inspiration from the original trilogy without ripping off too much from it. Fortunately it kept it more interesting then the Rogue One fiasco.

Jawas, tattooine, storm troopers, IG units, ATSTs....ect are just rehashing the same thing. The episode with Bill Burr on that prison transport is the one shining hope. It was simple, unique, and didn't have to rely on storm troopers or light sabers.

Baby Yoda is okay. Cute, and it works because it has super simple personality and is basically like a puppy. But that will get old quick.

But if next season we Boba Fett, X-wings, and energy swords running around...oh boy. Or we see any more desert planets halfway across the universe with more Jawas on it. Just...try and create a new and clever race, or just let Star Wars die already.

What i mean by unique is having movies and stories that follow baby yoda over the course of his life. From little baby to youngling to jedi to master to death. With it being an animated character they do bot have to worry about the actors age, they could literally have his whole life unfold onscreen between shows and movies, in that sense it would be very unique and create a strong bond between the character and the youth of today. Thats something that hasnt really been done before, with the character being a baby they could do this. I guess you could say gl tried to do this in reverse order but anakin was not a baby and it did not have thre same impact on kids cause they werent born when ot came out

I know CG Jabba wasn’t the best but I liked seeing the Docking Bay 94 scene as originally intended.

Yeah.. Movie talk is always about the next best thing at work. Its the hardcore geeks that like to talk about anything over a month old :lol

Well the real reason why this thread hasn?t died is cause khev and jye couldn?t let it go. If you notice the conversation is dead but one of them brings up the PT and then it causes discussion. Or they just bring up something like steal books. Or khev post his doomcock video prentending that?s not him.

If it wasn?t for them this thread would of died long ago. We aren?t really talking about the movie just the popularity and debating on why it sucks

So what you're saying is...

Star Wars isn't about creativity, at least not anymore. It is a corporate product to sell toys. It is more like an EA Sports game like Madden. There are shareholders, and investors, and they need you every year to buy the new Kylo Ren with a slightly darker cloak.

Marvel movies by comparison is ran by a diehard comicbook fan, Feige Yes, there are all the corporate ******** as part of that, but at least you have a guy that grew up enough with comics to know what works and doesn't work. Somebody who will defend a vision and stick with it.

I can accept Star Wars has become fairly trash pop-culture. But what really gets me is Star Trek turning into trash now. But that is a whole different topic.
