Also I?ve been seeing empire strikes back and revenge of the Sith being held as the greatest Star Wars movies of all time.

But AOTC and TPM are always ranked at the bottom of the heap. One or the other always beats out TLJ for worst SW film ever. TFA always seems to manage to get up there to fav SW films also.

People for some reason are fooled into loving ROTS ;) I am not sure why as I dont see the filmmaking to be all that much better then TPM and AOTC but who am I to say why someone loves a movie or not.

A agree with a-dev.. We will have to wait and see what future generations think

I still stand by that SW is more of a film series for Boys. Regardless of how people think of the ST in the future I dont think it will catch on as it is geared a little more towards girls and while I think little boys can like it they are never going to be their favs. Little girls just dont hold onto SW movies in a cult like way like boys do. Obviously there are some that do but SW films are ultimately action movies and that tends to be a little boys genre. Again I am not saying all boys or all girls fit into this narrow scope. But generally that seems to be the rule.

So I think in the future the ST wont be universally loved like the OT and PT.. But it wont have the hate heaped on it like it does today.

Of course I reserve the right to be wrong about all of this :lol

KK telegraphed exactly what she was going to do with the ST with her shadow campaign about the Force being Female, prior to the release of TFA.
Nothing wrong with working to broaden the appeal of Star Wars, especially from a business standpoint, but I did not imagine that they would essentially try to turn it into an extension of their ?Disney Princesses? brand.
If someone had told me back in 2012 that the newly announced Star Wars trilogy was going to be all about a young lady trying to save the soul of the mean, cold-hearted guy that she has a crush on, I would not have believed them.
I was all in on the ST at first, tried to like it and bought a lot of the figures.
When I had to sell my Hot Toys Kylo Ren because having him on my shelf made me feel like I had a 1/6 scale figure of the guy from Fifty Shades of Gray, I knew the ST would not be long for this world.

Of course they were but the st was non existent from the rankings cause no one likes them. And idk. People hate it now for its horrible story and how it made finn look bad.

They fly now is easily the dumbest line in a Star Wars film. Beats I hate sand by a mile

Lmao . The last paragraph killed me. I tried getting into it to. Was all for it. The first teaser was so hype.

The first movie didn?t leave an impact on me but I couldn?t wait for more so I bought toys abd stuff.

Then the others came out and it was clear as day how bad the writing was and that they had no plan . The characters sucked in development and yes that reylo crap was twilight levels bad.

I like how they tried to justify the kiss as a force thing but we all know it was just a kiss

Uhhhh uhhhh sorry guys we cant create anything new because we dont have anything to copy so here is a slightly different but significantly worse OT.

Honestly , again they were screwed either way........

Fans: TFA was just a clone of ANH!!!!! Think of something new!!!!

Fans on TLJ : NO NOT LIKE THAT!!!

Fans on ROS: THATS BETTER!!

This is simply untrue. As proven by The Mandalorian.

I posted a bunch of poles way back that included all the SW films... PT, OT, and ST.

TPM and AOTC was still coming in last.

So the hate is still strong with those films. More that the ST films. TLJ I think did come in 2nd to last place on a couple of them if I remember correctly.

The hate for AOTC I get. But TPM still has some of the best action in the entire saga. People just really hate Jar Jar I guess.

I don?t recall how those polls panned out, but I don?t think any movies have inspired the level of hate that both Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker have inspired.
Those two movies, particularly TLJ, all but shut Star Wars down.
The PT had a ton of hate in its day, but nothing like those two movies.
In fairness, things may have been different if Social Media had been around when the PT was released, but either way, the ST hate runs a lot deeper.
With ST you had Mark Hamill himself bashing them, and the actor who plays Starkiller and the voice of Darth Maul in Clone Wars speaking about how wrong TLJ was in its understanding of Star Wars. You didn?t have anything even close to that when the PT was released.
The worst you had were a few small comments from cast members about how hard it was acting in front of green screens.
I mean when the guy who?s playing Luke, and getting paid millions to do it, says that the character he was playing wasn?t Luke, you?ve pretty much lost everyone.

The "watchable" action for me increased with each movie in the PT. By skipping the dreadful dialogue, it was watchable. I could never suffer through any of the entirety of those movies ever again, but the action was interesting and logical. Lucas was usually good at that.
TPM - Jedi on TF ship, Duel of the Fates
AOTC - Kamino investigation/Platform Battle, Asteroid field fight, Jedi v Geos/Jango, Clones v TF, Dooku v Jedi
ROTS - Initial starship battle, fight on GG ship, Utapau sequences, Windu/Sidious duel, Yoda/Sidious duel, Final duel

The ST doesn't even have any cool action.

Luke in ST was the biggest joke of a character I’ve ever seen. The morons that are JJ and Rian don’t even understand what it is to be a Jedi.

Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy. Jedi use the powers to defend and to protect, never to attack others. Jedi respect life, in any form. Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy.

There is a point at which pacifism, while seeming good, can serve the dark side ... when pacifism becomes evil. If beings are capable of protecting others but refuse to take action to preserve their own sense of peace, they are being selfish. They place themselves and their sense of peace over the peace of others, and so they defend a philosophy instead of lives. In this way, they fail everyone.

Luke was selfish and failed everyone in the ST.

They?re both bad but Johnson is worse.
I was still holding out hope that after TFA there would be some good reason why Luke was on that island.
Obviously there was no plan, but Johnson could have given him a good reason to be there, but nope.
Come to think of it, what kind of idiot makes a sequel to Return of the Jedi and leaves Luke Skywalker out of the whole movie to begin with?

The fact that this is a word-for-word quote from a Jedi during a short story set in the PT era makes the whole argument a bit ironic doesn't it? The Jedi of that era were the only ones to have collectively failed. The only era of Jedi known for having lost their way. :lol

Since you're a huge fan of Filoni, I'd be curious to know how you interpret what he had Yoda counsel Ezra with on the subject of if/how a Jedi should fight:

Ezra: "Yeah, but Master Yoda, how are we supposed to win if we don't fight back?"

Yoda: "Win? [laughs] Win . . . hmph. How Jedi choose to win, the question is."

This seems to back up the things that Yoda says in the OT. I can't pretend to know exactly what Filoni was going for here, but the matter of *how* to achieve victory without fighting is not the same as promoting pacifism. It's basically saying that a Jedi has a responsibility to use what he has learned of the Force to find another way to resolve conflicts. To me, Luke ended up doing exactly that in the ST. Being on the island for so long (or at all) was dumb. But when it came time to be a Jedi again, I still struggle with understanding how what he did isn't perceived as the ideal Jedi resolution. Staying true to what he learned.

If Yoda's dialogue in ESB wasn't enough, it was punctuated by the climax of ROTJ where Luke tosses his weapon when face to face with the orchestrator of evil, the Emperor himself. Was he stupid to leave himself defenseless? Yes. :lol But the symbolism of his act is supposed to tie back to the lessons he learned. I think it'd be pretty odd to undo that arc in the sequels, but whatever. Everyone has their own interpretation of what these movies are saying, and how they "should" go.

Thats what I am saying. Look up the most hated star wars movie on google and look at all the artivles. nothing but TLJ. Hell entertainment weekly ranked rise of skywalker in last place

And they perfected reflected the resident demographic of "middle-aged doll-collecting OT purists"!

Wasn't he just hiding out like Obi-Wan and Yoda before him? :huh

So did I.

Don't forget the EU books, games, source books that had Luke as the most powerful Jedi ever. He built a new Jedi Academy and took on the Sith, Vong, other threats. All while raising a son, having a wife and training Han/Leia's children. Lucas approved all of that stuff. In Dark Empire he wanted to be the Emperor's apprentice so that he could take him down and Leia saved him. Luke always wanted to do the right thing and TLJ completely did the opposite.

Well we haven?t seen Luke since Return of the Jedi.
Don?t forget, the guy who played Luke in the OT said in TLJ he was playing a character called JAKE Skywalker.
