Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Yeah great correlation to Whedon-Russo-Whedon.

Look there's still a chance that JJ can pull off some amazing stuff but what i'm really curious about is the relationship between Kennedy/JJ/Rian.

All the bts stories with TFA revolved around JJ and Kennedy not even speaking with another and other big wigs involved with the project having to be their conduit with Ford's injury escalating it even further.

Now Trank I don't even count because he eliminated himself before it even started with his unprofessional behavior and drug use.

I don't remember who had the problem with Arndt.

Then we have Lego bros vs Kasdan.

Then Kennedy vs Gareth and Trevorrow.

My question is with JJ coming back, has Kennedy been snipped by the top Disney brass (Iger etc)?

Is Lucas really hands off as they say?

Spielberg really not involved?

Will Wor-Gar and JAWS ever embrace TFA as being better than the PT?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I believe that all of Arndt's drafts had way more Luke which for whatever reason Abrams was adamantly against so he got Kennedy to replace him with Kasdan. Arndt was also a Lucas hire prior to the Disney sale so they might have seen his exit as a bit of housecleaning as well.

I was just thinking how rare it is for *any* director to meet or exceed their own work when they direct a sequel to one of their own movies.

Sure there's the great Road Warrior and TDK but:

Indy series
BTTF trilogy
Matrix trilogy
LOTR
ALIEN/Prometheus/Covenant
GOTG/GOTG2
B89/BR
Terminator/T2
ANH/PT

*all* led off with the best films of the series. Not a single director above were able to match the first film they did when returning for a sequel and that list features many of the greatest directors of all time! Some of them even ended up destroying their own franchises with horrendous follow-ups (and many would add SM3/TDKR to that particular list.) We can even include Abrams' own Star Trek/Into Darkness.

So really there's arguably just The Road Warrior, TDK, and Spider-Man 2 where a returning director actually ended up making a better film than his previous effort or even one that was at least equal quality. And I just don't know that I can picture Abrams entering that club, especially after Into Darkness.

Me personally I do consider T2 a more fully fleshed out higher quality improvement over T1.

Ummm, LOTR had a really good trilogy with all 3 really being close to each other in quality so even if FOTR is considered the best it doesn't mean that the other 2 were inferior in any way shape or form.

Umm, some would argue Godfather 2 but not I.

You forgot Spielberg with JP.

But other than that yeah I agree UNLESS Abrams is doing the reverse and going from weak to strong?!

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

I have said this before and I believe it 100%. TFA needed more Lucas and the PT needed a lot more of Lawrence Kasdan.

Yes there was a lot of Bad in the PT but it felt like a Galaxy far far away.. Not so with TFA

Hell in just TPM I will take the Pod Race/ Maul Duel/ Naboo star fight over just about everything in TFA.

I will take the acting and dialogue of TFA over all of the PT... But that is about it. TFA is a better film then the PT but I would rather watch any of the films in PT almost every time... OK Not Attack of the Clones.. :)

Oh and
Obi Wan >>> Rey
Maul >>>>>>>> Kylo

.

I agree with you sentiments, but it's important to remember we have 6 films to love Obi from, we have only 1 film with Rey and Kylo.

Maul is the biggest tragedy from PT. What may have been with that character???? I love Lee but Dooku was kinda lame. They should have kept Mail in all three films, perhaps making Anakin fight him to take his place as Darth.

I think Kylo will become the great character Maul was in time.

Yes I forgot JP/Lost World in addition to Godfather I/II. And TWS/Civil War seems to be an even split as to whether people liked the first or second one better. TTT and ROTK are by no means duds (both are spectacular) but my point was that even with the mighty LOTR Jackson still couldn't quite match his first movie.

And if that's the case with Episode IX I just wonder how people will respond to it being slightly less than TFA in quality. TFA seems to be on shaky enough ground as it is for many without any room to weaken. If it does end up weakening *especially* if TLJ turns out great then I'll be very curious to see how that goes over with audiences (and everyone here, lol.)

Or just imagine if Abrams pulls another Matrix Reloaded/BTTF2/Lost World/Into Darkness where the very first sequel is instantly awful.

Maul is a weird one.

In one way he's famous for his battle, flips, design and uncompromising hatred of the Jedi but then he's doesn't really hold up because of how quickly he was dispatched.

I keep reminding myself how at this very moment in time we are in a better place than we were in 1999 lol.

I have brought this up before a few times.

Disney has no control over Lucasfilm and the SW movies. I am part of a Lucasfilm recognized costuming group and we have a lot of interaction with Disney during official SW events (and Disney actually have to wait for greenlight from Lucasfilm before they can do anything SW related) and a Disney executive point blank told me that Lucasfilm still makes all their own decision and it is essentially a separate entity from Disney. Apparently one of the condition of sale by Lucas was that Lucasfilm stays independent like it was before. The executive also told me they are sick of being blamed for everything when they actually have nothing to do with whatever direction SW is heading to now.

Their role is basically just facilitator. Lucasfilm asked and Disney made it happen.

Disney only pays the bills and are basically errand boys when it comes to SW related stuff.

Everything else is Lucasfilm and Kathlyn Kennedy which if you might remember is Lucas hand picked successor to run Lucasfilm.

I will accept this as truth... and I won't forget you said this.

The 8 Harry Potter films were good....

These new SW films are going to suck cause you got 500pl writing and constantly changing the story.

RO is exactly what you're describing.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

The next SW films do not have a chance in hell....because internet nerds always looking for the next big thing to complain about in their blog....
It will be the cool thing to hate on SW soon....

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

You sir are far off.

SW hate is nothing new.

ROTJ Ewoks were hated in 83.

OT SE changes were hated in 97

PT have been hated since 99

JAWS, Wor-Gar and that blonde Youtube chick have been hating TFA since 2015

kara has been hating RO since 2016

Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Hahaha.....We at least pre internet....the hate was not a thing people jumped on the bandwagon about.

Now it's pretty common to meet sheeple who will actually like a movie but say they don't to appease some greater mass on the web that deems it not cool...

I don't think it will be too long before we see "Star Wars sucks" shirts regardless how good them film actually is...

People hate stuff just to be counter culture and "interesting"

OR.... perhaps its true. All of it. They actually 'hate' TFA. It could be possible.
