Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

How would you know if a female is right or not for the job if the door to that job has never been open for them?

Are you saying that females HAVE NEVER been right for the action job since 1940?

“Hello.. hello.. it’s me Kathren Bigelow? You might know me for my action movies?
What? Women don’t direct action movies? Well most don’t because they hate action movies! But I like to blow stuff up, I have been doing it since I dowsed my Barbie house in lighter fluid when I was 10”

I agree.. I don't think we are that far off from saying the same thing..

Again I don't care.. Race, gender, sexual preference.. Just produce a quality product. If they think she is the right person then great.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Firstly not sure why “action movies” is the topic. And secondly as a father of two girls and three boys I can tell you that the girls have zero interest in blowing **** up and are all about social and relationships. It’s natual, it’s not conditioning. Boys dig action and aspire to be action directors. WTF is wrong with that?

Why are we not having conversations about how we need to emasculate The Hunger Games or Twilight?
Or add some kick ass explosions in fifty shades darker?

Men and women are naturally drawn to different genres. There is nothing ****ing wrong with that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

It's annoying to be sure but in fairness it was Ava Duvernay (Wrinkle in Time director) who tweeted the news not someone from LFL. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they do all officially pat themselves on the back though.

Ah.. Thought it was a JJ tweet.. Ok not so bad.

I think you are getting off topic a little.. nobody is saying anything is wrong with that.. But if a woman want to direct an action movie and can direct an action movie.. then let her direct an action movie.

Of course, who said otherwise? Jye again.. sigh.
But why hire someone based on sex and race unless they are the ideal candidate for the job?

How do you know they’re ideal for the job if that job has never been offered to them?

To prove yourself don’t you have to start somewhere?

You don’t get s job in Hollywood or most other industries without some proof that you can do the job. Everything is “proof of concept” or the famous “wet dancing dog scenario”

We are doing a movie with a wet dancing dog - please find us directors who have a wet dancing dog on their showreel....

That’s 100% true.

Disney went out of their way to say they wanted a female black director.
If that was “blind tested” then cool. If they were picking based on race and sex then it’s sexist racism. That is not equal opportunity .

If Lucille Ball was alive she would smack you like Leia did Poe lol

By the way not true.

There are a TON of industries were it’s not about your credentials its about who you know and family connections that gets you in the door.

So you are saying that nepotism is the exception? Yes of course, add that to the list of inequalities.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Listen it’s very simple and almost impossible to debate (unless you’re Jye).

If you hire someone based on their sex or race, you are not an equal opportunity employer.
Full stop.

And it’s very clear that’s what Disney have done here.
Good night!

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Because Hollywood has NEVER hired the wrong white male director right Rory.

Even if they weren’t right for the job guess why they got it Rory?

Yes every white male director since 1940 was a PERFECT CHOICE for the job.

Hollywood only gets it wrong when it’s a female director but a white male director PERFECT CHOICE for the job right Rory.
