Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

So, by your logic, any fan that liked the OT but was unhappy with TPM should've then ended their SW Fandom right then and there. Never watching the rest of the PT, not watched the new ST or RO, or have any interest in Solo even though they loved the character of Han Solo in the OT, correct?

I do believe most PT haters watched all 3. I don't know anyone who watched ep1, then didn't watch ep2 or ep3 cause they didn't like ep1. Or watched ep1 and liked it, then watched ep2 and didn't, so they didn't bother watching ep3 to finish the trilogy.

Out of 9 movies I liked 8. I love the OT, I enjoyed the PT, loved RO, enjoyed TFA, but my displeasure with TLJ means I should never watch another SW movie again. I should skip Solo and not even bother with EP9, even though JJ has a shot at fixing what I didn't like about TLJ even if I liked what HE was setting up yet was squandered by Johnson.

I guess if my favorite group/band comes out with a bad album, or even one bad song I should stop listening to any new music they produce ever again.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I am insane. :)

There's a big difference between disliking a film/having problems with it vs. the vitriolic hatred some on here have expressed. The "Star Wars is Dead" cry from some of you should be followed to its natural conclusion, that Star Wars is dead, and therefore you won't be seeing it anymore. On top of that, several people on here have said over and over again, that they will never watch another Star Wars movie, which is obvious to many of us that it is b.s., but personally I think they should fulfill this prophecy.

Hyperbole is out of hand in this regard. Say what you mean, the hyperbole really smacks of whining from entitled man-children. But what should I expect, this is a site for high priced dolls, afterall.

Many of you are fine, and handle your criticism in a somewhat even-handed manner, like JAWS, for instance.

Jedi don’t die, they just fade away.
Then they fade away again.
Then their props fade away.

As I watch this all I see is Kennedy kicking Oto off the SW tree :lol

The lady even says “Poor little thing there’s plenty of franchises” lol

Why Thanks you :) It much easier to be calm when you know your right :lol ;) ;)

As for the Haters

I don't do this every time but I will just skim over and ignore what they have written if it is Hyperbole. Anytime I read "SW is dead" or "I will never watch another SW film".. I skip to the next post.

I don't think they are hating on the film because its "the cool thing to do" but I think they are a bit extreme in their hatred and have allowed themselves to fall into the internet abyss of Hyperbole.

Some more musings.....

Yoda was not interested in the books...my guess is her also sees the hubris that was the Jedi order, and wanted a more natural approach the the force. I think this is another hint toward Disney’s plan to expand the force beyond the Jedi vs Sith idea. Kylos main mission seems to be to burn down the past struggles as he obsessively believes that is what is stopped the future. Might be an interesting play to see that Kylo, although clearly crazy...it correct in alt least what’s he’s trying to do. Which is move beyond the age old struggle. He may be obsessed with ending the rebellion, but his next move might be to destroy the first order...he seemingly does not care about them at all either.

i would be 100% on board with that, I would definitely pay to see kylo become everyone's enemy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I guess Kylo now wants to do what Luke was trying to accomplish but with a different goal.

At first I thought Luke was actually trying to kill off the force religion but he just wanted to scrub away the political manipulation marriage that the Jedi and Sith had self imposed on it.

Luke wants to purify the Force.

Kylo wants to drain the swamp and be king of Kylo land.

Kylo is a Youtube/wiki kid with double the bad influences - creepy uncle Luke and Candy Van Snoke.

The more I think about him the sadder I am this is Han Solo’s kid.

yeah this is sort of what I am saying......

Both are moving toward the same end.....Luke was trying to get Rey to understand this....Kylo, I think, is playing everyone. he blames the war for his life going bad.

Everyone has been trying to manipulate him from the start, trying to use him for his "Skywalker blood" which is why Luke is so bitter about allowing himself to fall into the same trap. After all Obi and Yoda was doing the same thing to him. The essentially used him to get at his own father!!!! He cut himself off from the force intentionally to take himself and his "Legend" status off the table. I know Luke thinks Rey's idea of who he is and what the force is about is totally wrong. He thinks the same about Kylo...he tells them both the same line..... "Every word you just said is wrong". Luke believes the rebellion must come from grass roots.....not from heroes and battles. People want the change it will happen....without blowing up stuff.....as Leia tells Poe.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

So much for those who thought Hamill was on board with EP8 after he "thought about it for a while"...

https://www.jeditemplearchives.com/...-wars-hope-for-the-best-but-expect-the-worst/

Even though Solo: A Star Wars Story is on the horizon and The Last Jedi a hazy memory of the past already, there’s still some promo work for the latest trilogy movie. For the European disc release of The Last Jedi Mark Hamill did some promotion work in Ireland and gave interviews. French magazine Le Point published their interview with Mark Hamill yesterday. And Mark Hamill had a few things to say about The Last Jedi and Star Wars in general.

First of all, the interview is in French, there’s no official translation available and I translated Hamill’s statements using Google Translate and my basic French language skills, I speak a little, read a little more than I speak and I translated the statements to the best of my and most of all Google’s ability.

In the article the interviewer points out that Mark Hamill looks exhausted and that the alotted time for the interview was shortened. But he did answer a few questions and once more gave his opinion on a few things.

The interview mentions that Hamill was shocked after his first viewing of The Last Jedi, then the article goes on and says that Hamill backpedaled a bit a few weeks later, but for this interview he reaffirms his position once more and has this to say about Luke Skywalker’s fate in The Last Jedi:

“It’s not just me. The fans would have wanted Luke’s fate to take another direction. I like being out of my comfort zone, but that was pretty extreme.“

The article continues and says:

Hamill admits that it was difficult to respect Johnson’s wishes because he feels, in a way, a “feeling of ownership” for Luke. “It’s hard. Fans have had such diverse reactions ranging from Star Wars 8 to being the best Star Wars of all time to ruining my childhood. But understand that I am only the assistant cook. The director creates the recipe, and I just run it as best I can so everyone thinks it’s the best thing you’ve ever had. The current trilogy is about the new generation” he says. “It always reflects an era. The movies say it: we must forget the past, kill it if you must.” You do not have to be an expert psychologist to understand that the actor does not really adhere to this vision of things.

Mark Hamill liked Rogue One but has one advice for Disney: they should slow down on the release schedule for the movies or else they might oversaturate the fans.

And finally Mark Hamill reveals that he still speaks regularlay to George Lucas:

“It will never be the same again without him. When I have George on the phone, we are talking about the 7th and the 8th movie. But I will not betray his trust and I will keep what he tells me confidential. I’m sure it was very hard for him to let go of his creation, just as it is for me to be part of something when he is no longer our guide. But you have to roll with the punches and hope for the best. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.“

I bet that many fans wonder what George Lucas and Mark Hamill say when they talk about Episodes 7 and 8. Maybe one day we fill find out. We may all guess for now and have our own theories about what they think.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel, in light of some other interviews by Hamill in the recent past, that he has distanced himself from Star Wars and wouldn’t even mind that much if Episode IX does not feature him? Mark Hamill, especially in this interview, comes across as really disillusioned and you can tell he’s more than unhappy about how things worked out for the three original core characters in the new movies. Which pretty much reflects what a considerable number of fans feels too.

Nothing new there.......Hamill will change his mind again after he is cast for Episode 9 .....

Besides its been said before , who cares what an actor thinks? Somehow people like to think his opinion should sway anthers opinion? Or be held to some kind of weight?

He's just an actor.

Harrison Ford thinks Star Wars is retarded......How does that opinion effect anyone's view of these films?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

The point is that after Hamill retracted his comments, the supporters of TLJ all waved their hands in the air that Hamill did like it & the "haters" were dumb posting all the videos and interviews about how "even Hamill didn't like the movie". I guess we forget about the supporters arguments back in December trying to make the "haters" look like trolls. And then those laughing at conspiracy theories about how the "haters" felt Disney forced Hamill to recant his opinion. And sorry I'll take Mark Hamill & George Lucas' opinion holding weight, the creator & most important character, on Star Wars any and every day over Johnson & Kennedy's opinion.

Harrison Ford NEVER cared about SW... Ever. So, your comparison doesn't mean much. He wanted Han to die early ESB not even wanting to come back for ROTJ. Paycheck or no paycheck.

Hamill is a grumpy old man
We are lucky he can even remember his lines

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

At the start of TLJ- Poe disobeys Leia’s order to back down after his initial run against the dreadnought.
Leia is standing at the command center with her generals/co-ordinators etc.
Poe hits his com switch off and ignores her demand to return.

So how does he call in the bombing fleet?
The resistance fleet is under direct command of the command unit?
So how can Poe call them into battle without her permission?
He could go rogue for sure on his own - but it makes zero sense that the bombing fleet could be called in against the command center and the leader of the resistance.

My 8 year old asked me this by the way.
:lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Ford has always hated Star Wars. Nothing new there. He is a grumpy ole fart but Hamill had a lot of love and respect for it after he got a bit older. He accepted it for what it is and was pretty cool to the fans and usually spoke very kindly about his part in the whole thing. This last movie shat on all of that and turned him off of the whole thing. That's no small feat.
