Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Talk about making every Mary Sue complaint obsolete lol

With Luke being an offspring from a person who was literally brought to life by the force his quick entry into the force makes sense but I think most anti Rey fans feel that because she suffered so much less than Luke did onscreen it made her journey dull for lack of a better term.

Now that being said with Luke and Rey both having quick entry into the force, irregardless of who suffered more on their journey, would you say that Rey will be revealed to be a Skywalker because of her similarities to Luke?

I say a resounding YES!

That whole “she’s a nobody” is an obvious misdirection.

What say you destroyer of Mary Sue whiners lol

Rey's journey has some similarities to Luke's, and has similarities to Anakin's. Considering how much backlash there was against Rey's parents being "nobodies," I wouldn't be surprised if JJ/LFL makes Rey a Skywalker in Episode IX.

But, personally, I wouldn't do it at this point. Having her parents be ordinary means that the Force "chose" her to be the balancing light to Kylo's darkness. That "chosen" qualifier makes her like a new Anakin. If people are upset about how things come easy to Rey, having that Force-chosen Lil' Ani' precedent makes it a less valid complaint. After all: he was winning a pod race, flying a starship through battle, and destroying a large command satellite . . . before the age of 10!

I'd probably be okay with either direction, but I've learned to appreciate Rey being a "nobody" who was chosen by the Force. And I think that making her related to Kylo would always end up seeming too derivative of the Leia/Luke relationship. If they make her a Skywalker by birth, it's going to have to be written (and explained) extremely well in order to work. There's potential for it, but I'm not entirely confident that it'd be pulled off well enough.

Besides, if she helps redeem Ben Solo, she could end up becoming a Skywalker by marriage instead. Then those two could even have the superest of all superbabies to give LFL another Skywalker dynasty for future movies/stories. :lol (It's still a business, after all.)

And I can't believe I'm about to say this, but . . . go ahead and bring Hayden's Anakin ghost back for Episode IX to bookend the whole thing.

IX better do good.

It will.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Disney defiantly want to narrative ti be anyone can be like Rey or Luke...

It fits perfectly with their ideals of every girl is a princess and every boy a pirate king. They have run on this philosophy for decades.

If Little Ani had not ended up to be Vader , but instead followed the heros path they would be using him as the perfect icon for them....

As it is they know full well that teenage girls spend the most on franchises they follow. So they wanted a female hero to capture that money. Perfectly reasonable for a corporation to take. Unfortunately, the middle aged , mostly white fans of OT would not have it.....

Only prepubescent little white kids and whiney white orphan male teens get to play strongest in the force.....

Hell, they even made the girl they chose and orphan like the boys.....but nope sorry she cant be that powerful, shes a Mary Sue......

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Postmodernism

Deconstruction

One of the most well-known postmodernist concerns is "deconstruction," a theory for philosophy, literary criticism, and textual analysis developed by Jacques Derrida. The notion of a "deconstructive" approach implies an analysis that questions the already evident understanding of a text in terms of presuppositions, ideological underpinnings, hierarchical values, and frames of reference. A deconstructive approach further depends on the techniques of close reading without reference to cultural, ideological, moral opinions or information derived from an authority over the text such as the author.

It will.

Everyone attached to Star Wars and Disney has repeatedly stated this was the trilogy to bring an end to the Skywalkers and their lineage. No Skywalker after EPIX in Star Wars. Therefore, Rey will not be a Skywalker, nor have a love child with Ben, and so Ben too must bite the dust.

But of course, Disney spew out lies and misdirection to the fans everyday, soooooo...... No matter.

While EPIX will not fail, it also may do even worse at the BO than TLJ. Struggling to even break a Billion. But then people will still argue it was a success, just like TLJ that under performed in excess of like $600 mil or something. And please don't quote me on that, I don't remember the exact amount is was projected to hit, and don't feel like doing a google search right now... :D

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Wow just watched RO to see how it played after Solo. My last viewing of RO was actually *prior* to the release of TLJ. Man, just blown away all over again. TLJ and Solo just aren't in the same ballpark. I really enjoy TFA/TLJ/Solo and parts of TPM but for me RO really is on the same shelf as SW and ESB. I love everything about it from beginning to end but that third act, wow. Just wow.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I think after next year’s Star Wars celebration we’ll have a better gage of where Star Wars fandom is now. It’ll be nteresting to see who the guests are and the reception they get.

For Celebration 2017 I was able to purchase my ticket less than two months before the convention but Celebration 2019 already sold out more than a *year* before the event. So apparently the death of SW has caused fans to grow and become even more rabid, lol.

Which was the narrative of SW and ESB until ROTJ made it hereditary (dun dun dun, lol.) Disney is just bringing the mythos of the Force back to its roots at least with respect as to who can become strong with the Force.

Maybe Solo revitalized the series! LOL

You made me check.

The only thing sold out is the limited VIP tickets, Saturday (always the 1st to go) and the 5 day pass. Pretty much the same way it goes for SDCC/NYCC. Saturday is the most popular & longest show hours day (people being off and all), and the multi day passes are cheaper than buying multiple day tickets even if you are not going all the days. The other 4 days, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday (both adults & kids) are all still available... I hardly call that being sold out.

You crazy Kev....:cuckoo: ...... You just love to the stir the pot of the bitter & angry SW fans.... :lol

Saturday is when I went in 2017 (since it was the only day to meet Miss Erso.) I bought my ticket just 60 days before the show. This time around Saturday sold out more than a year before the show. Big difference.

Not that I'm disagreeing with the "crazy" part of course. ;)

Well, you made it sound like it was totally sold out, not just Saturday. That is crazy talk.. :wink1:

I was there too last year at SW Celebration 2017. I don't even remember what day I went. I was in Florida at Disney for a week. I also bought my ticket only like a month before I went. Had to stand in the stupid line to pick up ticket after waiting in line for hours to get in... Worst convention lines I've ever waited in out of the many fan conventions I've been too. Was my 2nd SW Celebration. I went to the 3rd one (Celebration III) in Indiana with a friend (all 4 days) in 2005 when ROTS was being released. I thought it may be the last SW convention for a long time. But, they kept them going to my surprise. :lol But afterwards most were in Cali, not driving distance and way too far and expensive for me to go just for that.

Good times though. Wish they would do in NYC or Philly one year.

Yeah when I saw that Saturday was sold out I did assume that the rest of the days did too. Which is a bummer since if I go that's the day I'd prefer and also most of the celebrities seem to gravitate toward Saturday as well (though I believe that Hayden Christensen was only at the last one on Friday not that I cared, lol.)

That's right I remember you had that awesome R2 hat. :rock
