Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Nope not making it up but where I get it from is similar to that so pretty reliable as rumors go.

I’m wrong about 80% of the time...make that 95%...ok 98%...so my track record is so so.

Oh and my avatar now compliments my sig.

:lol

Just to drive the rumor mill crazy, JJ should film alternate versions of every scene and not let anyone know how he'll piece it all together in edits.

In all seriousness they can just have Luke return in the flesh "Gandalf the White" style and go from there. They don't need to retcon TLJ but by the same token TLJ doesn't have to be the final word either.

I'm blown away by the fact that Luke's death, and surrendering himself to the Force ala Kenobi, is such a problem for so many people. Han Solo died because the actor insisted on it, and they used it for nothing more than to try to sell Kylo as a credible bad guy. Han Solo went out in just about the most inglorious and unceremonious way I can imagine, yet it's Luke's death (that he gets to come back from as a Force ghost!) that people can't stand.

I guess I'm just way too out of touch with everyone else on this stuff. I don't get it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I am willing to embrace time travel, alternate realities, Zam Wessel, solar flares, and the evil-twin implications of facial hair if it means Luke didn’t die on a rock on Penguin Island, buying moments for a rebellion so stupid that they were equally distracted by his distraction.

:rotfl

It’d be hilarious if they went full soap opera.

Somehow your post made me realize though.... why is Luke the hero of TLJ? Why is the kid at the end pretending to be him?

Both he and Holdo did the same thing, buy time for their inept rebellion, except that Luke literally just distracted them by talking and died. Holdo took out their flagship as well as a bunch of others. In the end, her sacrifice was more heroic than Luke’s in the movie in which he died.

Shouldn’t the kid be pretending to be Holdo?

I'm fine with both Han and Luke's deaths but since Luke's really did divide the fan base it's fun to try and think about how they might be able to salvage it for the other side in a way that pleases everyone.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

How did Luke's sacrifice light the spark of resistance exactly? The kids still scattered like ants when the bad guy walked into the room, lol. Shouldn't they have been inspired by Luke to stand up to him, the one kid even had the freaking Force!

Imagine ESB Yoda explaining the Force relationship between all life and the environment and then saying, “but watch me burn this tree up! Bahahagah!”

How would that kid know what Holdo did :lol

Besides he’s a mini Jedi aka a youngling so he would automatically make us think of a Jedi.

Rian is such a deep-cover misogynist people think he’s feminist. :lol

lulz

I guess that's where my biggest fundamental disagreement with most fans is: I don't think the stories should aim to please everyone. When "pleasing" becomes "appeasing" there's no artistic integrity left. And, no matter what, some people are going to cry and moan over whichever direction these characters/stories go. I hope they just tell an inspired story that is the one the writers genuinely want to tell. If I like it, great; if I don't, oh well. That's art.

The same way that he knew what Luke did... just the tales of heroism being spread across the galaxy. Even forgetting the kid though, her sacrifice was more effective. They got away and she had the best moment in the movie visually, as well as did the most damage singlehandedly. She outhero’d Luke in a movie at least 50% titled after him.

And then of course Luke had to help them get away again :lol

They just meant it’s been sparked, but they’ll get to fanning the flames at a more convenient time

Her sacrifice wouldn't have amounted to jack or **** if Luke didn't keep Kylo and the FO from destroying the rest of the Resistance. They'd blown open the big door on Crait, and would've slaughtered everyone in there had it not been for Luke.

That works both ways - Luke wouldn’t have had that opportunity to save them as he was still sulking and nowhere to be seen when she saved them in the first place. That’s why I’m just speaking of which was more heroic in total.

Agreed. But I'm curious as to whether they might be able to have it both ways nonetheless; artistic integrity while pleasing everyone (or almost everyone.) They did it for RO so it doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing.

Fair enough. I just wanted to be clear that what Luke did was allow the Resistance to escape altogether. What Holdo did was buy them another hour or so before they'd just get wiped out on Crait. Not taking anything away from Holdo's sacrifice; just pointing out that Luke was more effective in terms of the end result (the Resistance avoiding their ultimate extermination).

I wonder if "negative critic of TLJ" is an actual profession now.....

Do they post for jobs for this incredibly popular YouTube pastime?

TLJ is like the Bible (or insert chosen religious text here). It's so very easy to mock and point out all of the flaws and outright nasty bits, and it's a talking point which guarantees a large audience (with money to be made on both sides). The people who have bought into it see this as a reason not to do it somehow as if it's bullying the weak. But the point is, if you're going to believe silly things, you should expect people to bring this up a lot. And TLJ appears to be widely regarded as a really bad movie by the majority of people. NOw the amount of people that believe something has no bearing on how true it is, so this doesn't mean that it is (it's a subjective thing) And it shouldn't affect your views of it, but you need to just accept that you'll be facing this opinion for a long time to come. Either accept this, or just move on and ignore it or it may consume your life. I did this with TPM which I really like myself. TLJ is just a movie my friend.... A terrible, terrible movie ;)

I'm sure we'll all be best friends when the next movie comes out and is amazing.... Right? :lol
